I know you can use this to make videos if you play on 360 or PS2, but I've never actually used a TiVO. We have one in our apartment that isn't hooked up at the moment, but I kind of wanted to give it a try. Does anyone know how you actually get the video from the TiVO to a computer, and what you can use to edit the video?

I don't bother with Tivos....mosly I ether just use a TV turner card or a video capture card as it's lass hassle and you don't have to pay those terrible monthly fees for what amounts to an MEPG encoder/decoder card and a hard drive.

The two things I mentioned record directly onto PCs so you don't have to bother trying to get suff off the lame box that is Tivo....

P.s.: sorry alot of it is that I don't like Tivos but TV tuner cards and vido capture cards are still better ways of recording video to PCs simply because you skip the middleman....

He asked a question... if you don't know, don't answer.
He asked a question that is best answered with TiVO's own documentation.

The expecting everyone else to do your own research is getting old.

Umm...I wasn't expecting other people to do research for me. My actual thought was that since this was a topic area of home-made FFXI videos on a forums of people who I think to know FFXI well, someone might know it off of the top of their head from experience and be able to give me a how-to easily. Yes, I can find anything on google, but when I'm looking for specific info I generally like to ask people who I think know it first(read: you guys). Sorry for thinking that.

He is asking people that might already know how to do it. Experience is best shared.

Experience may be best shared, but trying ot learn on your own first is the best way to gain experience in something. If you do your research and then STILL don't understand is the best time to ask a question.

he's not a sad man, it's an ongoing trend and it needs to stop. Do a little research by yourself and then formulate a question.

No one is advocating laziness in this thread. I personally do much research, but sometimes it's nice to learn from others that have gone before you and not out of a book or manual. Actually inquiring about a certain topic on a forum is a type of research.

Actually inquiring about a certain topic on a forum is a type of research.
Directed questions about a topic designed to fill in gaps in your knowledge is research and beneficial. The OP asked how to do what he wants to do with no previous work on his part.

That is pure speculation.

Also, not everyone may be as tech/information saavy as you are, so don't expect others to be at the same level as you.

I didn't realize that it required technical savvy to read a manual; and for what he's asking about, he better be more then your average user.

You know there is a substantial difference between asking for people's experiences with this and then expecting them to do all the work for them.

He basically asked if anyone had any had any on-hand experience.

If you don't have an answer, or don't like researching for other people, THEN DON'T FRIKEN POST. It's that easy.

Some people learn more from actually communicating and getting info from other people, than searching themselves online or in books. It's a well friken known learning method. In fact, 'word of mouth' was the FIRST way knowledge was passed from person to person.

Why is it no matter where the hell you are on the internet, there's always 2-3 people who absolutely refuse to acknowledge any sort of personage other than being completely and utterly independent of others. This is a COMMUNITY WEBSITE based off of a COMMUNITY BASED GAME!

Now that that's out of my system...

There's nothing wrong with asking other people's experience. Thats part of the primary function of a website like this. While researching it yourself is encouraged, sometimes it's simply better to get it from a personal perspective, rather than cold, senseless documetation.

Honestly, reading instructions to this game is a pain in the neck and learning from other people is actually much more fluid. This is why you get questions like this repeatedly. Perhaps we've forgotten that, knowing most if not all of the game's functions and concepts for years on end now.

Patience and tolerance is a virtue much needed in today's FFXI forum community. I used to pride this Website on both of them. However there's a growing list of key people who've simply decided that being rude and short-tempered. Worse yet they don't bother putting such reasonings as to their responses until called out on.

This honestly needs to stop.

Why does it bother you so much?

Aren't questions like these the whole purpose of this forum?

And, I took all of 5 seconds to search google and was DIRECTED TO THE OFFICIAL SITE on what he was looking for.

Really? Does the official site specifically say how to record VIDEO GAMES or does it sit there and group all peripherals together? Also, what about transferring data from Tivo to Computer?

You spent what? Five seconds? You still know JACK SHIT about what he was talking about. You claim he's lazy but you did crap to help him out, you just decided to google and link something that looks faintly like what he wants and call it a day.

Just shut up and leave posts like these alone.

Edit:

I just went to the site you said. It hast nothing on how to record from game to TiVo, just how to take TiVo to computer. Next time stop being so cynical?

Personally I would have included instructions from beginning to end. But hell, screw me for liking to help people.

Feba

Exactly, if they can find it on google in FIVE SECONDS, why the hell can't he spend the time to look it up himself before he asks?

Nobody here is against people asking questions, that's the main purpose of forums. What we ARE against is people asking questions WITHOUT EVEN TRYING TO FIND THE ANSWER THEMSELVES.

Really? Because I thought the first step was logical

IE HOOK UP THE DAMN SYSTEM TO THE FUCKING TIVO.

Step by step directions edit:

1) Hook up to tivo
2) record
3) convert to desktop using program I linked
4) convert file using a video converter
5) enjoy!

NOT. THAT. HARD. (And, All I used was google).

Found this (http://ask.metafilter.com/61122/Moving-Vido-from-Tivo-to-Computer)

Yes, and Yes. It also lists caveats related to both functions and narrows the answers down to which series TiVO you can do what with.

InuTrunks
07-23-2007, 01:07 PM
additionally if you can't figure out that much on your own, then you have no hope of actually following a conversion guide, honestly this area is not for you.

Edit: Maybe Hyist you should actually READ his quesiton first before making yourself look like an ass.

Does anyone know how you actually get the video from the TiVO to a computer, and what you can use to edit the video?

What I liked him to in my first post does JUST that.

Sure, this KIND of pertains to Final Fantasy XI, but this honestly, is NOT THE FORUM for these types of questions. And, we come off as dicks because the OP did no research of his own (or comes off that way), and that's annoying to a community that's been around for a long, long time.

Ah. Well, I haven't been here in years, and it sounds like you guys have gotten a lot of annoying posters in since then, so no biggie since I guess you have your reasons.

Still, the hostility in this thread is still a little silly. I hope things don't start up like this all the time around here. Now that I re-read it, it really should've stopped after Mhurron's first post, as he did give the information needed. I guess people just didn't care for how the information was presented.

Oh well!
