View Full Version : How will the issue of RMT teams doing Avatars be addressed?

Basically they're doing the usual NIN + 5 taru BLMs on autofollow and running through all 6 normal avatars. People have observed them cycling new groups about every hour on some servers. So they're cranking out 10000 x 6 x 6 x 24 x 7 = 60,480,000 gil per week doing this. Some are reported to be doing Fenrir as well for an extra 15000 x 6 x 24 x 7 = 15,210,000 gil per week. Presumably they're using a Windower set up so only one actual person is running each team.

The real bad thing is that this is all new gil being introduced into the economy, so we may be in for another inflationary cycle until SE cracks down on it.

I'd like to suggest that each Prime Avatar (not mini-fork) quest be put on a 1/conquest cycle like Escort quests. So you could still do all the avatars in one day, or over a week, but you couldn't repeat the same avatar until after the next conquest update.

Thats it, I suggest anyone who is called RMT should not be allowed to do any quests, missions and their characters should be locked at level 1.

Exactly what do you want? RMT players are still players. Anything you do to curb what they do in the game that is allowable is only going to hurt legitimate players.

Isn't the cool down one rl day not ig day?

SO the total would be 2.52M gil a week which basically is shit.

Legitimate players don't cycle avatar fights 24/7

Infact I don't know of anyone who does these things for profit. I see no reason to not make them a once a week thing.

If that is the case then it's a lot less of a worry

It's one real day, so each team can do all 6 avatars once every 24 hrs. Running 24 different teams a day, it adds up.

I suppose they could just remove the gil reward.

On the other hand, it kind of makes me wish I had the stamina to grind these fights myself. That's some sweet cumulative cash.

in all do respect they could send alot more then 24 teams to do those fights. They take about 7 min for a duo of nin + whm. Remember if you remove the gil reward you will lose alot of help. I have only gil to get for a good amount of avatars.

I can solo the fights, so help is irrelevant to me! But I hear you.

Yes there are some people that use this as their gil source. There are others that do these runs to actually help SMN get their avatars, changing it to a once a week thing does nothing but screw them over. "Sorry LS member you should have asked earlier, I already did avatar A,B and C this week, come back next week."

However more importantly, this is just another request to castrate the game in the name of fighting RMT. RMT are just players, changing the game mechanics to hurt them hurts you.

An RMT player is someone playing the game to sell gil. If they're not cheating, then they have done nothing wrong until they sell gil.

I'd prefer this not to be adjusted. I do the avatars nearly daily to make some extra cash. No I don't do it every day, or every avatar every day, I do them more often than once a week.

I also know someone whom is funding a lot of his relic by doing these fights, and plenty of friends that run through them for extra gil.

What people need to do when they see these groups is report them to SE's STFU. If they are RMT, they may be pos hacking to the BCs and get banned for that, or have another way to tell. But if they are doing these fights the same as any legitimate player is, then you couldn't really ban them for that.

Perhaps if SE got reports on these groups, or looked themselves, they'd grow suspicious of these people, research them as see that all they've done for the past month is avatar fights, and then find out where the gil they're getting is going. But I'd hate to see this way of obtaining gil nerfed in any way.

Deflation is still going on right now. A little inflation isn't a bad thing. If SE cracks on stuff because they think inflation might start happening, we'll just continue to be stuck in a deflationary economy.

Until we actually start seeing signs of more than just a little inflation, I don't see the point in asking SE to crack down on stuff.

I agree it's money being introduced into the economy, but how much money is leaving the economy at the same time. We as players don't know, but I'm sure SE is keeping tabs on it.

Money leaves the economy every time we buy something from a NPC, rent a chocobo, or a 1000 other activities. Money comes in when we sell items to NPC, kill certain mobs/NMs, do quest (like these avatars) and things like that. There needs to be a balance of money coming in and going out.

Changing the avatar system itself will hurt legitimate players too much imo. What to do? What to do? Ban them.... They make new account? More money to SE that way : /

I have an idea, let's NOT give the RMT on other servers any new ideas. Titan's RMT pretty much only have sky left and low level crafting and they can't really even handle that.

Maybe twice a week wouldn't be too bad. That way a legit player could still get all their summons plus the whispers for Fenrir over a few nights. I don't think very many people grind them every day.

24 teams x 6 members x 10k per quest x 6 quests x 7 days a week = about 60M gil being generated every week. They've done worse, but that's still a pretty significant number. I'm still surprised they're going to the trouble of generating the requisite fame on so many characters and trotting all over Vana'diel for this scheme.

If anyone's interested in pursuing bans for these people, I'd say the best way would be to catch them using a pos hack to teleport through the zones. That's the only way I could see them getting this done in a profitably short amount of time. When I was GM calling the ones exploiting the Explorer's Footsteps quest, I'd see them zone into La Thiene from Valkurm, disappear and then appear in Jugner seconds later. I find the GMs tend to be pretty quick and cooperative if you can describe explicitly that what they're doing breaks the mechanics of the game and definately points to a 3rd party program.

On the tangent, I've been helping a lot of shellmates get avatars and whispers lately and, yeah, the supplemental cash is pretty nice. It's a lot of globetrotting but 60-75k a day is pretty good in this economy where so many people are struggling to find anything profitable.

Why don't we just make it so that you can't collect gil more than once a week?

Cutting back the amount of time you can do them is bad IMO, it's hard enough to get help on them as it is. As would be removing the gil reward- that would be bad for anyone who wanted help on it.

The best thing for this would be to limit the amount of gil you can collect in a week. for example, if you do Shiva on Monday, you get 10k. Do it Tuesday, 5k, Wed 2.5k, Thu 1.25k, Fri. 1k, Sat. 750G, Mon 500G (just enough to cover your travel)

This way, people can do their avatar runs every day, and they can make gil off it, but people farming it get cut back on some.

I hope it stays the same so I can get all the items I need and make some daily gil. It sure beats tele-whoring in Jeuno.

Running 24 teams a day would require 144 chars all high enough level to do this (although you could run it with a few high levels and some leeches to collect more gil, then the leeches would just need the fame and teleport crystals). If SE catches up to them, sees them all passing gil to the bank mule and bans them, it'll be a while before they have 144 *more* chars to do this with.

They may be using 4-5 leeches and just 1-2 75s. Still, that's a lot of fame grinding.
