Yea I have been looking everywhere for information on this. There are rumors of hidden effects and things on chargers mantle but no one has any hard proof. Its just absurd that it would cost 150 coins and its no better then foragers. Brutal and Boxers are 75 coins and extremely useful. Could you please confirm if there is a hidden effect on chargers.. You don't have to say what just if there is one or not, thanks.

It does not as far as I know. The trade off is that you get +20 attack, which is more than any other back piece, and give up Ranged acc and attk. The reason it costs 150 coins, I have no idea, but it doesn't mean it has a hidden effect.

obviously not many tests with any of the 150 coin items have been made. however, what tests have been made point to the likelihood that -none- of the items has a hidden effect.
this means that pretty much just the jaeger (for non A-skill ranged attackers) and the ribbon are even worth looking at, and it's likely that neither of these is worth it, either.

How is it "obvious" not many tests have been made? Because they suck? It's definitely easy enough to get 150 coins so that can't be the reason...

It would be a very close call that chargers would even do more dmg then foragers and every Am+1. Its just mind boggling why they would do something like that. It might be a sliver better for tp gain but nothing near worthwhile. All I can see is it may be a luxury piece if it has no hidden.. which if fails at even that because it has the (wtf) nomads mantle animation.

because (until recently) 150 coins was 3million gil (or more) on most servers.
today it's still something like 1.5 million gil.
so most people, when faced with the choice of forager's mantle + fire bomblet + 500k or charger's mantle, chose fire bomblet + forager's mantle and didn't look back.

You don't have to buy coins. You could easily have saved up over 150 coins from a little after CoP was released (when people got sea) and now. I know people that have been doing Limbus since a month or two after CoP release and others who duo/trio Limbus for 30+ coins per run. For example the HNM one (Apollyon NW?) can drop upwards of 45 coins and can be duo'd by 2 BLMs or BLM RDM depending on the skill on the RDM.

Whether you buy the coins or farm them yourself is irrelevant. The choice is the same. If you had 150 coins you could sell them and get forager's, bomblet and 500k instead of trading them in for the charger's.

exactly.
this is the same logic that should be applied to farming/crafting too by the way.
just because you farmed something yourself doesn't somehow change its value to the secondary market.

That doesn't make it "obvious" that there are no tests done. If someone is using a sushi build, for example, and focuses on attack for the most part (which is what should be done) they could look into this.
People making the decision to sell their coins is their own decision, and depending on the situation, a smarter decision. That doesn't mean that it's obvious to everyone that there have been no tests done on a piece of equipment. Otehr peopel can be curious, as the OP is, and do the testing, the problem is finding it.

if someone is using a sushi build, for instance: would still want attack+15 str+3 because (surprise surprise) in most situations 3 strength is worth 3.5 attack.
and again, I fail to see how a virtual cost of 3 Million gil for what is (at best) a marginal upgrade and in 90% of situations is a side-grade for something that costs less than half as much, -and- can't be resold, could somehow *not* be an obviously rare piece.
add to the fact that with a forager's you're basically getting the best reasonably available strength for the slot *and* 15 attack, and you're saving inventory too.
so basically, except for tests involving trying to cap your pdif. there's not really any reason why anyone should feel that +3.5 attack for -3 str and ~2million gil is a good trade. it's not even good epeen anymore since cerberus+1 is *better* and harder to get.

As I said in the first post if there is no hidden effect then this is no better then Foragers.. Thanks for reiterating that to everyone though. If noone has any concrete proof to a hidden effect or lack thereof you don't really need to post in this thread. Not to be rude but I've encountered plenty of speculation and we all can see the obvious. Like I also said I went ahead and got one anyway so if I notice any changes Ill post them.. I dont run a parser though so I will only notice something thats extremely obvious.
Thanks

If SE ever does answer this question specifically, I'm guessing the answer will be the stock reply, "This is something we want the players to discover on their own."

Well if there is a hidden its something you would need a 3rd party program to figure out... I dunno I get some weird results wsing in it.. I hit one of my highest rampages ever in it but I also got alot of shit wses.. Its extremely up and down with it. Well I guess we will never know so let the uncertainty continue. For any who plan on buying it though I would just stick with foragers because the results are pretty much the same.
