Hello All,

I started a month and 1/2 ago. I began as a modest RDM/no sub, obviously. I thought to myself, let's get started, so jump in! Well, I felt and still do, like a peon in this giant world. I got my RDM up to 18 and got sub. leveled my WAR to 7 and was 18 RDM/7 WAR till 24 RDM/7 WAR. I received a lot of complaining on that one. So I leveled my WHM to 7 and was 24 RDM/7 WHM till 28 RDM/7WHM. Then I got even more complaining from pts and potential pts. My initial hope was to get to 30 and unlock some of the advanced jobs before wasting anymore time leveling RDM, WAR, or WHM. But, alas, no one wanted a 28 RDM/ 7 WHM. I decided to switch gears and really start leveling my WHM. I'm now a proud 10 WHM/ 5 RDM and on my way to the dunes. In retrospect I wish I had a plan from the beginning. So here's the question...

What would have been the optimal job leveling sequence to get RDM(or another job if you're not a RDM) to 30?
Starting from square one.

Thanks,

Evion

personally I try to get my sub jobs out of the dunes...which means lvl 19-20. That way you're good untill you hit 40 and can be abit lazy about leveling your sub further for awhile. A gimped sub is never a good thing so you'd best keep up with it...

Well the easiest method is to level your sub first, then your main job. Say if you wanted your main job to be 75 summoner. You'd level blm to 18 first and do the subjob quest. Then when you level whm you won't have to worry about leveling your sub until level 37. Then you could do the summoner job quest as level 37 whm, and when you level smn you'll never have to worry about your whm subjob getting behind.

For say paladin it'd be mnk>18, war/mnk>37, pld/war>75.

Red mages have a ton of different subjobs they'll want eventually, but for general party play I'd recommend blm>18, whm/blm>37, rdm/whm>75.

That is a VERY good go over Taskmage. I wish I could get that for each job!!! It looks like I'm on step two then. Going WHM/RDM, though, till 37/18.

I also started as RDM/WAR, but this was before most people(myself included) knew enough about the game to biatch about it.

Early on, /WHM is going to have the most utility. A modest MP boost, useful spells. Later(40's~) /BLM gives more mp, and starts getting better utility spells, early on you really don't get much out of it other than MP though. I personally was /DRK from 30+, it did get me some flak but I performed the basic RDM duties and still provided decent DD, however I did need to spend a bunch of gil on multiple gear sets and make complicated to be efficient at both.

Really your sub should depend on what you are doing as RDM, and you want to have them all so that you can adapt to your situation. I have DRK, WHM, BLM, THF, BRD, NIN, and WAR subs, and I do use all of them for different situations.

Most endgame things, merit parties, and solo fighting I prefer /DRK for it's job ability set, absorb spells, and stun. Dynamis and traveling I use /BLM usually, main healing I am of course /WHM. For manaburn parties I'll go /BRD(which I do despise doing) just to make it easier on myself. Certain NMs and missions where I expect to tank or solo something hard I'll do /NIN or /WAR, and I use /THF for farming.

You'd want to have at least /WHM and /BLM ready to go at all times so that you can accomodate what the party needs. Sometimes you'll need to main heal, or provide a backup silena/paralyna. Sometimes you'll need to backup nuke for extra damage. And sometimes they'll just want to you debuff and refresh(for this I usually recommend /BLM).

So my advice, don't just pick one subjob. Level any that will be useful and/or sound fun(I've been meaning to try BST, DRG, and PLD subs for while, need to get around to lvling those!)

And have fun, RDM is tops.
