View Full Version : Would inter-server PvP be possible?

I have no clue if it would be something SE could manage or not, but I was thinking it would be pretty cool if there could be some sort of PvP arena that would allow you to import your character data and fight against players from other servers. Mostly just for fun and bragging rights, but I think it'd be really cool to be able to go toe-to-toe with players from other servers at some point.

There was an inter-server PvP event once upon a time.

Also there's World of Warcraft. (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/index.xml)

Meh if they did inter-server PvP, they better make sure...

NO F*CKIN' ITEMS.

That whm spamming Hi-Potion spamming is total BS. Items should be locked except for what you find on the field.

If you pay for the items, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to use them. Would you keep NIN from using tools? Or RNG from using arrows? Or anyone from using food?

This is why I stay away from PVP. People feel that it's necessary to make a bunch of arbitrary rules so that they don't feel like someone else is going to have an advantage.

Items of all kinds are purchasable by everyone equally. There is no advantage.

The concept of nobility differs with everyone.

I never liked it in WoW when people I'm fighting used potions, though it probably isn't fair that I'm able to heal.

If you want PVP, try a game that's truly made for it, like EVE.

I figure if a resource is equally available to both parties, then it's fair game. If you're not going to go all out and use every trick you have, then why bother?

But those tricks cost gil, and I'm a cheap bastard. So that would destroy my fun. >.<

Unless of course everyone got the same amount of items for free as temp items and then limit the use to only those (that includes ammo, tools, etc.) otherwise it just becomes a wallet match.

But then you'd have to limit gear too because some players would have better gear than others and that would be unfair too. (Did I mention I'm cheap?)

So, I propose fighting like real mean used to fight.

Like Greeks! You go in naked, then you just let auto-attack do the fighting while you go get a soda.

Or maybe have some kind of button pressing in a DDR style so it's player skill (eye-hand coordination and/or quality of your bot) rather than gear an items what will decide the match. /nod /nod

I can see it now. Oh! The glory and honor!

I'd love to see the average MMORPG addict do half-steps or jumps.

Ahh that's what that was, I was taking a break from game when they did that. Cool, I hope they do it again sometime! :D

I dunno about no items....

The thought of using Sneak Attack > Prism Powder > running up behind someone and using Death Scissors is pretty attractive....

I did that quite a few times in a few 60-cap matches. Needless to say, people got paranoid quick whenever they saw me registering for a match in Magus gear and only one sword. It's especially effective if you work up some TP before hand somehow to toss into the mix with CA (I dropped a fully healed Warrior to about 30% in one shot with about 150-200% TP CASA Death Scissors. He ran like a little girl after that every time he saw me >:D ).

Also, BLU has several effective spells in a match, one of my favorite being Pinecomb Bomb, followed up nicely with Head Butt. Those three spells build the foundation for a build that makes DWAM Warriors cry, and Monks work damn hard for any victories against a Blue Mage they get (it also leaves them with so little HP that they're Easy Prey for the rest of the team). Just keep some Echo Drops for the occasional Red Mage (who it is a good idea to stay away from, unless you know you can take them).

In Arenas, you are NOT allowed to use consumables. Also, they locked out Paladin's Lay On Hands (A benediction like ability that is used on one target) because it would make matches drag out indefinitely. This has greatly leveled out the playing field and skill does factor in a lot more than before.

Anyway, the idea for cross-realm pvp on FFXI isn't so hot of an idea, considering FFXI's pvp is pretty crude and lacks any depth. If you want to pvp, just go play one of the many handful of online RPGs that have better. Until FFXI designers actually sit down on this and really revamp the pvp system, I doubt it would see much popularity outside of the few die-hard faithfuls who continue to play Brenner/Ballista matches.
