'Hoy! I finally hit 65! I had been eyeing Save the Queen for quite a while now, not just because I wanted to test it but because I think it's got its uses...anyways, the "Cover" +1 attribute always bothered the hell out of me. I always read it's 1 more second to Cover time, but that's so freaking useless that I refused to believe there wasn't anything else to it. Here's what I got!
Usual Cover time: 15 secs
Cover + Save the Queen: 16 secs
Cover + Gallant Coronet: 19 secs
Cover + Both: 24 secs
Bam! Also, the latent's active as long as Cover is active, regardless of actually...well...covering. It even works when not fighting. That aside, something's totally wrong (actually, totally right) with my Cover though. It lasts 15 secs on some people, but I've had it last 20 secs on a 60 SAM and up 30 secs on lower level characters. I thought it might be an level difference, HP difference, or even Defense difference, but it's just not adding up! Wtf D: Although it varies from person to person, it's consistent with any given person. Anyone have a clue what triggers the extended duration?

* While active, all physical attacks directed at the target will instead become directed at the user, as long as the covered target stands directly behind the user.
* No enmity is transferred upon usage of this ability.
* If Gallant Coronet is equipped, user will be able to Cover magical attacks directed to the covered target too.
* If Valor Surcoat is equipped, damage taken while covering a target will be converted to MP.
* If Save the Queen is equipped, user will have Accuracy +20.
stats on cover :P

Thanks, but that doesn't really help...

Hmm, it would be interesting to see what exactly affects Cover time on other players.
All I can tell you is that you have a lot of testing ahead of you!
I guess I could help a bit since I have PLD leveled and stuff but I have no idea where to start.

Maybe Cover is sort of like Seigan + Third Eye? That is, barring actually Covering someone it lasts a fixed duration, but if you're intercepting attacks it has a chance of wearing off after each hit?

All my tests were done out of combat, though, and I *still* get differing durations from person to person. Besides, if it worked that way it'd be possible for it to wear off early if you got unlucky, which just doesn't happpen.
That aside, though, I'd like to point out that Save the Queen is a great sword with a bad rep which is totally undeserved. It's currently my weapon of choice and probably will stay that way until 70 (Company Sword.)

If you are 67+ give Dainslaif a try, you never know.

If the Dainslaif (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Dainslaif)'s additional effect (HP drain) kicks in a lot, I can see this as being better than Espadon (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Espadon). But, I already bought an Espadon +1 (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Espadon_Plus_1)...
Edit:
Save the Queen doesn't look very good; ~24 seconds of Acc+20 every 3 minutes? I rather have Espadon +1's higher damage rating, plus its VIT and Attack increase full time.
Lv.65 Save the Queen: DMG:40 Dly:240 (DPS: 10.0); Cover +1; Latent: Acc+20
Lv.66 Espadon +1: DMG:44 Dly:257 (DPS: 10.2); VIT+3, MND+3, Atk+7
Lv.67 Dainslaif: DMG: 43, Dly: 264 (DPS:9.7727); Add.Effect: HP Drain

I hear Dainslaif proc rate sucks. Espadon's DMG is nice but it makes such a small difference on WS it's nothing much to write about. The VIT and MND are equally insignificant, though it does have that 7 Attack going for it.
The real beauty of Save the Queen is having 20 more Acc on your Vorpal. Plus it looks bad-ass and having 24 secs of Cover never hurts for those times where I do actually have to worry about hate.

Isn't Damage rating linear, assuming weapon rank not coming into play? 10% higher weapon damage rating (i.e. 44 vs. 40) means 10% more damage per hit on average?
Edit: Nevermind. Didn't notice the terms for base damage are added, not multiplied. >_>;

Since the duration seems to go up when covering lower level people, maybe there's some stat vs stat comparison? Like say, the amount your chr exceeds the target's is a factor in extending the duration?

I don't think CHR is it. On my last test (on a 75 RDM) I was getting the same numbers as my first test (i.e. the 15, 16, 19, 24 I got on my first test, which was on a 75 WHM.) I asked my friend what his CHR was and mine was higher.
This is totally baffling. It lasts 30 secs on Lv.1 NIN and Lv.20 THF, 20 secs on a 60 SAM, 15 on a 58 PLD but 16-17 on a 65 WHM. What the hell? The only thing that's been consistent is 15 secs on the Lv.75 characters and 30 secs on really low level characters...but what bothers me most is that it lasted 15 secs on the 58 PLD.

If not chr then maybe some other stat? I only suggest chr because it seems to make sense and people are always scraping to find possible uses for it. Get a bard friend to rotate some etudes on your target and see if there's any difference?

Yeah, I know. That's why I thought of it too (plus the fact that PLD has high CHR.) I could try with Etudes if I can get some people with free time. Thanks for the suggestion, I forgot about those.

What about defense? Could it be less defense means more Cover duration?

I checked that one already, that wasn't it. I got the 75 RDM to strip naked, put on Protect, all his gear plus Protect...nothing changed the duration.
You know, I'm tempted to buy a second StQ just to see the time change when dual wielding them.
