View Full Version : What do you think about making a Mog Warehouse system available for players?

I've posted about this before, but all the recent talk about Inventory space reminded me of this thing I posted a while ago.

The concept is very simple, just adding an extra option to the main menu so you can manage items from all your characters and make item transfers between characters in the same server.

Edit > (Characters in the same account, this service would not apply for characters on different accounts and/or between different servers)

It's pretty much an improved Mule Game™, but instead of having to log in and out 100 times to get gear for something (and waste time going back and forth to the delivery npc) you'll simply go to the main screen and select Mog Warehouse to sort and transfer items (maybe even using a shortcut like the Playonline shortcut we used to have).

You'd only be able to transfer items directly between Mog House, Mog Locker and Storage though, since it wouldn't make sense that you could transfer items directly between characters through the warehouse system (after all that's what the Delivery system is for).

So, while maybe this wouldn't save you from the ocasional run to the Delivery NPC it would make massive item transfers much more efficient and less painful, specially when you need to transfer more than 8 items at a time.

While I don't know if SE acknowledges or legitimizes this in any way, it is the case that often times siblings in the same household each have their own character on the same account, and the ability for one of them to go through and snatch the other's belongings with complete ease might be somewhat unwelcome. If one wanted to account for this (and keeping in mind that since the only real barrier (password) is on a per-account, not per-character basis, it is only a question of ease and not of basic capacity to transfer inventory) the best way would probably be that each character has to sign up for the warehouse functionality independently to have their stored belongings show up, complete with the capability of withdrawing from it later.

That said, any more of a barrier than a fairly simple sign-up is unwarranted given the understanding of the security of a character being at the account level.

Having some ability to look beyond character into the resources of an account might have some additional utility in terms of error-prevention; it wouldn't be possible to typo and accidentally send your items to another player within this kind of system. I don't know if that's a significant concern, but I have noticed many characters with only slight variations in spelling on FFXI...

Bumped for the sake of visibility, plus I'm still suffering having to play the freaking Mule Game™ everytime I want to do anything with most of the jobs I have leveled. >_<

This would be awesome.

I agree 100%. :< Not to mention Lunaryn has a pretty good idea how to make it safe.

Why have it restricted to an account? Make mog wwarehouses accessed by a username/password system, that way they could also be shared by LS.

X amount of gil per username per month. If a username isn't paid for over three months, the items are shipped to the registrar's DB, and it is recycled for someone else to use. Allow people to have multiple ways of storing things, and practically infinite inventory without mules if you can afford the gil and you can manage it.

Too many issues regarding item transfer between different accounts. I wouldn't want to go to get into that. ^^;

I mean if they could pull it off sweet, but I rather not go there. ^^;

I agree with it per account but having it accessible by linkshells is just asking for trouble. With the amount of drama that goes on in linkshells it just takes one peeved member to clear the linkshell of it's goodies and GM's do not get involved with linkshell matters, therefore you've just lost yourself a ton of gil.

fallenintoshadows: It's not like FFXI would be the first game to do this, and there's a good history of that happening.

And it's not really a big problem, to be honest.

Having each character "sign up" for it isn't really any more secure than just allowing it across an entire account by default. In the sibling case, all they'd have to do is wait until the other sibling isn't around, log their character in, and sign them up. Worst case, if your little brother wants to take your stuff, he logs his character off and logs yours on, just like he does now.

If there were going to be any sort of opt-out/security capability at all, they'd need to implement real per-character security (passwords?). At least have the option for it.

I think this is a great idea. I would even be willing to pay extra to do this. An extra $2~5 would be worth it to me. Recently a lot of the LS have decided they want to get on the horse and start powering through CoP, and if I'm going to help out, it requires - at times - up to a half hour worth of mule hoping just to do one part. What happens when you're at a junction in the story that the level cap changes? Another half hour of muling equipment because I have a number of jobs in that range?

If I could just go to my Mog House, dump the Lv.30 stuff and grab Lv.40 stuff. Or drop off level 50 stuff and get ready for Lv.30 stuff. Would really help me out, and help out others as they don't end up waiting even longer on help.

As far as the "restrictions," I agree that this should be kept to a POL ID. There were times on these forums where LS drama leaked out here, and the rest of us kinda sat here and watched as the admins tried to restore the peace. Keep this to one person/family. If it's an issue of siblings, that's an in house issue, not an issue where 50 plus people could be involved, creating work for GMs etc; So I say keep this per character just to prevent some head aches.

If it comes down to it, where one person mules tons of level cap stuff, then they can get what's needed, walk out of the Mog House and give it to whom ever needs it. In the end, it will still save time.

I'd make it even simpler: you access your mog warehouse the same way you access your mog locker, except that every character on the same account+server is accessing the *same* mog warehouse. (When one character pays to open it, or expand it, it's opened or expanded for the whole account.) EX items can't be placed in the mog warehouse.

Done. You can figure out for yourself whether you want to put your stuff in there or whether you're afraid your little brother will take it. You don't have to worry about "what if two people try to take out the same item at the same time?" because only one character from the account can be on at a time anyway (unlike the LS warehouse suggestions, which I agree have too much drama potential).
