I have 3 of the 4 items required for the Beastmen Treasure quest (for possible Bitter Earring drop), however the 4th one is proving to be impossible to get.
Rancor Mantle is meant to drop from Tonberry Cutters in the Temple of Uggalepih, but I kid you not, I've killed hundreds of these guys over the last year and never got the drop. Its now got to the point where I'm doubting the drop even exists off the Cutters, and that the websites have old information about it.
Has anyone been able to get this drop? and if so was it off cutters? The mantle isn't to be confused with either the Rancor Globe, Tank or Handle which I have already obtained (or the Rancor Flame which is something else entirely).

ffxiclopedia says, yes, it does exist.

Srxjo) All of them
Mhurron) Yep, but since I've been trying to farm it for so long, I'm now after confirmation from someone who has one in their inventory, because at this point I think the information on the web is old.

I'm in the same situations with the sahagin beastman treasure. I got the head, tail and hands really pretty easily, but I've spent probably over 8 hours total slaughtering Spring Sahagins in SSG with /thf and never gotten a mermaid body. My friends who have done the quest all said they got the body after just a few kills, but it was the hands or head that they spent hours trying to get.
I've never actually seen a rancor mantle, but based on my own experience I'd say that it does really exist, just with a really low and erratic drop rate. There's a solid sales history for Bitter Earring on the AH, so the quest has to be possible to complete.

What are all these "Beastman Treasures" for anyhow?

You collect 4 items dropped by whatever beastman race and trade them to Peddlestox (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Peddlestox). That gets you the location of a treasure chest you can dig up that'll have somewhat valuable items in it. There's one possible item from each chest that isn't obtainable any other way: Antica—Sand Mantle, Tonberry—Bitter Earring, Sahagin—Mermaid's Ring.

Ok, wow.... the ring is like the only good item out of the 3 beastmen equips.

I'm curious about the Bitter Earring. Is there a way to ensure you have Curse on you, to intentionally trigger the latent on the earring?

As far as I know... no. The only way I can think of is get by spell or ability from a mob.
Another way, I think, might be hitting someone in Brenner/ Ballista wearing the full Igqira Armor set.

You can get Cursed in Beadeaux if you walk by those machines, but other than that I don't think there's any medicine which can inflict you with Curse.

Yeah, the ring is the only really popular thing. The mantle looks like it could be useful too. I want to get one for myself eventually.
