Recently started playing, I have 1000's of quetsions about this game and more as time progresses. Should I post lists of questions here or do people join linkshell guilds and ask them? or is that kind of behaviour annoying to others? Or is it simply researching on the internet anything that you need to know?
The most annoying thing I find with this game is that as can't alt-tab out of the game or play windowed to use online resources to help you while in game.

Any suggestions?

First set on alot of questions, is simply look at the stickeys on this website. All of the Jobs have a run down. Now if your just looking for some simple info you and go to: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Main_Page. If the stickeys or wiki dont answer everything or you are confused with the info they give you feel free to make a post, asking a couple questions, we will help ya out. /Welcome

If you use the search function on this site you will find alot of answers to your questions. You can also use the wiki (http://www.ffxiclopedia.org/), somepage (http://ffxi.somepage.com/) and Allakhazam (http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/) sites for information as well. I wouldnt reccomend allakh though.

As for your windower problem, go to google, type in windower and download the 3rd party tool. Dont use it too exploit hacks and you wont get banned.

Edit: SquareEnix(SE) are also brining out a legal windower soon for FFXI as far as I know.

Recently started playing, I have 1000's of quetsions about this game and more as time progresses. The fact that you are asking about researching on your own is a good sign that you won't be the sort of person who is annoying about asking too many questions or the wrong sort of questions. Reading at least some is good but there are always going to be questions where it’s much simpler to just ask and if your ls aren’t fine with that then they are the problem, not you.

We are apparently getting an official windower for the game at some point which I know a lot of people, me most definitely included, are really looking forward to.

This is the list of sites that I use regularly:

ffxilopedia (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Main_Page) – Already been linked but this is a fantastic site. This is my first stop for almost any query. If you are a new player their information on character stats is a good place to start and later on the Terminology and Guides sections.

Somepage (http://ffxi.somepage.com/) – Another ffxilopedia style site but the real gem on this site is the Advanced Search for looking up weapons and armour. I haven’t seen anything as useful or flexible anywhere else yet.

MysteryTour (http://mysterytour.web.infoseek.co.jp/ffxi/us/) – Another ffxilopedia style site that I haven’t actually used yet but a lot of people who know what they are talking about have recommended it.

Vana'diel Atlas (http://www.ffxi-atlas.com/) – All the maps you will ever need and some mob info. I printed off the connections map (it’s only one page), I use it all the time and it's stopped most of my navigation problems.

ffxiah (http://www.ffxiah.com/) – Not really for answering questions but very useful. Note that only Jeuno AH information is listed though so possible more useful once you hit level 20 or so.

Weapon skill chart (http://ffxi.lokyst.net/) – Do not worry about this until you have started and settled into partying a little. The one linked on this page (chart itself is a pdf) is the one I use because it’s the simplest one I have found and has a couple of very neat little extras all on the one page. I have this printed it off and I use it frequently.

As you level up a bit, most of the time you will have a list of things that you know you need to get done next so it’s easier to be prepared and look things up that you need to before you log in.

like some people have said already. Use the resourcfull links and search function they gave you and also before posting any questions here use the search function...there's some who will get anal and flame you for not using it. :wtf:

My thoughts exactly.

Darkages, you have no business calling anyone here stupid. Hell, I've talked to RMTs with a better grasp of the English language than you.

Also, restraining from posting any links, try to get the windower from Archbell - It's the official site so it won't be tagged with a keylogger or anything. If you get it from somewhere else be sure to run a virus scan on it. Stay away from using the Plug-ins if you can, and switch to SE's windower when it's released.

but make sure you read all the warning on archbells site b4 downloading bc if you do certain things with it it will crash and corrupt your ffxi data and youll have to reinstall it which isnt that fun to reinstall this game
