View Full Version : Viewing debuffs on party members?

Another newbie question:

How do I see what type of debuffs are affecting my party?

When I join a party I can only see their health. Most of the time I can take off a debuff because I can see the enemy cast it. However, if I miss seeing the cast, I don't know what is on until they tell me.

Same with buffs. Protectra wears off, but I can't tell when it does for them.

Is there an easier way to tell?

Protect and shell are a fixed 30 minutes (unless you cast a higher level pro/shell on a lower character). So when it wears off of you, it wears off of them generally.

There is no way to check and see what debuffs a character has other than watching for poison/dia/bio damage, or seeing them get paralyzed.

There should be an entry in the chat log for when they get this effect, and I highly suggest altering the font colors for these effects under the config menu.

I have differenct colors for debuffs landing on a mob, debuffs/buffs landing on party members, and an array of other things depending on what I'm doing.

Personally when I'm on whm, I have most of the chat filters on. I only want to see party/linkshell chat, effects >> mob, and mob >> effect (I think special actions and spells are on). But I have all the damage and from party members and such off. Way too much chat spam if i'm seeing what 5 people are doing, or when they get hit. I don't need to know how much they got hit for, I see from the hp bars what kind of cure they need.

But I would recommend playing with font colors and chat filters till you find what works for you. I've never met anyone who has it set up the way I do, and I think it's just a personal thing for you. Once you have it all set with colors you notice and only seeing what you need to see you'll find it's effective. Good luck.

EDIT: there are some mobs that have TP attacks that do damage and cause an effect. These do not show up in the log, but after long enough you'll know what they each do and know when to Erase/Paralyna/et cetera.

Thanks for the info.

Anyone know the reason as to why SE did it like this?

SE, as it appears to me, wanted to make sure that you were fully enthralled with the game. You can't run in a windowed mode, legally, you can't craft afk, can't fish afk. You pretty much have to be there for every moment of the game.

I think it's good that it narrows down exploits and such, but there are things that could of been implemented to make things easier. Auto sorting inventory, letting me set up a stack of synths to do, cast my fishing line and run to the restroom, things like that.

Thier true intentions I don't know, but I think they wanted to ensure that you get where you are by earning it every step of the way, at least in theory.

eh, SE has stated that they're looking into their own windowed version, and GMs generally don't have a problem with using bots as long as you're able to answer them when they message you.

I wouldn't have a big problem if there was space next to a character's name on the party list where they'd have smaller versions of the buffs/debuffs they have on them at the time. With the option to turn them off, of course, if you don't need them. (Hell, I can't think of a time when I'm playing MOST melee jobs where I would give a rat's ass if some random DD has Poison.) It would be nice if a WHM could look down his party list and see, oh, shit, Tankdude is paralyzed. {Casting spell.} {Paralyna}.

Of course that would make things too easy. :/

Well the windowed version is after almost 5 years of the game's existance, perhaps that was thier thinking before. As far as botting, it's like I said, they want you engrossed in the game. I'm not sure what a GM's reaction would be if they detected a third party tool allowing you to bot weather you are there or not.

Was just my take on the game's design, no one buy SE can say why any particular element is the way it is.
