First of all, why would you want to be a bord anyway, there not that great.

But out of those two, i would chose the bard black mage, only because im not to sure what the bards attacks are, but i think that they can cure with their music, or at least cast defend or something.

The answere is simple!

It mainly depends on the personality of the player and how he fairs in battle.
Such as if your going to be a bard white mage they'll most likely depend on you to heal them and make there attack defence ect. better.
If you were to be a bard black mage they might pic you because you can raise there abilitys, and use black magic, ect.
Some ppl in the game are realy picky and only pt with ppl that have a good outfit, no stupid name like boob ect.

I were pt with no matter what you are:thumbsup: because I like to player friendly!
I would not pt with you if you suck at the game and act like an ediot!

If it were up to me, I'd choose a BRD/WHM... or possibly a BRD/RDM, simply because they'll be able to heal after they've sung their songs. A BRD/BLM wouldn't make good use of their black magic since they won't have all the current spells of a real black mage (due to the fact that sub jobs are half the level of the main job), let alone will the BRD/BLM have enough MP to cast any of the weak and outdated black magic anyway. Bard is a job that supports the party, not one that contributes to fighting the monster directly. Having the ability to heal is just all the more things a bard can do to support the party.

but i heard that bard music can heal already...so what is the point of having to 2 healing jobs?? Would bard/black mage be more suitable for an offensive player like myself?? PLus the new level cap is 65 so i can have some more black magic spells..but tell me why red mage is more suitable? you get less mp and not the top spells?

Cus you can also go melee with a RDM, you can change your job to suit the Party when you are in trouble eg. Brd songs, Whm heal or Blm to deal damage
Btw brd healing isnt that great gives two HP a second for 30 secs i think

that is HP regen.

HP regen 1 is 1hp rengen per 3 sec, HP regen 2 is 2hp regen per 3 sec, HP regen 3 is 3hp regen per 3 sec.

it just let the recovering after fight become faster, so that you can make more chain.

and also, most of the time, you will busy with singing the song in the fight (there are songs for mage, song for tanker). therefore, when you go into higher lvl, there is not really many chance to focus on fight (but still got little time to join fighting).

brd/whm or rdm is better, at least you if there is any cases, you still can assist a little to whm.

after you get over lvl 32, the bard with whm(16) will have curega, which is range heal + ?—?_‚̈ó, is very useful for healing after battle.

and also, dont bother about those stats, it doesnt help much for the battle since you can buy +stats equipment to equip.

heres some more input..... i think you should be Bard as your sub job and pick you mage (whatever it may be?)

the nature of the bard is to help the party i dont think it would be a wise choice to go out alone as bard as your main job just because of the fact that you would also want to be able to fight alone i would pick bard as my sub job and black mage as my main job

Callous you can only have 1 sub, if thats what your asking about subbing blk in the begining.

If you want to be offencive, you shouldnt be a bard. Bards are not a damage dealing class, they arent meant to be. Bards are a support class for the party, to supply buffs. Some of thier songs may do damage, but they just arent a damage dealing class.

If you go Bard, WHM is your best bet as a sub, BLM is probably alright, but it wont do you much good. if you want to heal your team your bard regen song isnt going to help a whole lot when massive attacks are being laid down.

and yes Bard makes a horrible sub, you only can have 1 song going, cant use intruments, and dont get the MP regen song. It generally defeats it purpose.

If you NEED some offensive magic, you might as well go RDM, but WHM is always gonna be your best bet as a bard.

well as you know i dont play yet but.... as i hear white mages are always openly excepted into PT and black mages almost as much.... but id go with the black mage for more offensive damge.... but you may wanna be the person always healing and helping the party...... thats just not what i want

Wow... this thread grew rather quickly during the time I was gone.

Anyway, the reason why subbing WHM is better than BLM is because at higher levels offensive magic won't help at all, and you'll end up regretting that you spent time raising BLM instead of WHM.

If you sub BLM, a level 13 Bard will only be able to use Water (second spell a BLM can use that's offensive), whereas a level 13 BLM will be able to use Fire (which is the fourth offensive spell a BLM can use). As you can see, the bard subbing BLM will be far behind a true BLM, and since it's subbed a BRD/BLM won't have much MP to use any of the spells anyway.

At level 30, a Bard subbing BLM will barely be able to use Fire (4th offensive spell). A real level 30 BLM will be able to use WaterII, which is the 8th offensive spell. Keep in mind that the Bard won't be making good use out of his offensive magic anyway since they have low intelligence, and equipment won't make much of a difference since it'll be so far behind a real BLM.

Because of this, it's better for the BRD to stick with WHM since this way they'll be able to heal, despite the fact that they'll have low MP. At around level 16, you'll be able to cast Cure about a total of five times, which is 5 x 30 = 150 HP total. That's enough to heal one person's HP about 50%, which is a whole lot better than doing 1% of damage to a monster with weak black magic.

If you're really worried about having black magic, then just sub Red Mage since then you'll get the best of both worlds (although it'll take longer to use most of the spells since Red Mages learn magic a lot later than the White Mages and Black Mages).

i understand what your saying being useful and so on..but say if there are 2 white mages already(one an elvann and taru taru)...would they need a third white mage??why not use the red mage/or black mage side of me to not do MAJOR damage but at least to help with the fighting load....because i dont want to deal major damage if its not needed
