I'm pretty sure i've posted this in the right section. If not, please move accordingly. Now with that out of the way i'll get down to the nitty-gritty. So I have a laptop that has windows vista as a main OS and i've done some research and noticed that FFXI doesn't work well with WV. I tried installing FFXI on my laptop but it can never get past the second disc and it's really frustrating (mind you I have the first pc version discs and they are in great condition) so I was wondering if the vanadiel collection would work on WV; installation or other wise.

Thanks in advance for reading this and commenting!

I have downloaded, installed, and updated the VISTA compatible playonline from the pol website, but now I don't know how to install FFXI. When I run setup from the Vanadiel Collection DVD it prompts me to first uninstall pol, before it can install it. Which I did out of frustration but not it wont even install the rest of the game.. Did anyone else have this problem?

I have tried installing FF XI with the the original version and no luck, then I did some reading and I down loaded the Vista POL and then tried to install FFXI. Everytime I try though it says to install pol first. I have disabled UAC and tried that way no luck. I installed FFXI the old way and unstalled pol and put in the vista pol and no luck. I don't seem to find a solution. Hopefully someone will come up with one. The only thing I have not tried is installing FFXI the regular way then replacing the pol.exe file with an updated one, they say that works. Any hints before I attempt to do this??

The main installer on the Vana'diel collection still tries to install POL first. After installing the downloaded version of POL go into each of the sub-directories on the DVD and run the installers in there.

I have vista home premium 6.0 build 6000, i did some more research and one guy said:
1- download pol vista version (which i have)
2- install the original pol (i have the orginal american version)
3- then install the vista version and update pol
4- install FFXI and all the expansion and update
I did step one but when i tried to do step three windows would tell me that there is already a version of this program installed and therefor would not load the vista pol.

I can't seem to figure out how people are doing it.

Silly

1. Install Vista Compatible POL.
2. Go to the drive you put the game disc in, and open it
3. There should be four folders, I don't remember what the names are but i'm using INST.
4. open INST1 and look for setup.exe.
5. open setup and it should run the FFXI setup.
6. continue with folders 2-4.
7. Enjoy.
=D
thats how i did it.

I am sorry I didn't make this clear but I don't have vanadiel collection cd i have the original FFXI, I did not want to waist time and make another thread so i just asked in this one.

If i load the vista pol and then try to load FFXI it will say load the old pol first. So what do you want me to do now?

Then I think that there should be a setup to run on each of the CD's after the original POL one. Just skip the POL disk, install the downloaded POL then install each of the seperate CDs.

it wont let me install the MSI package by itself it says to go through setup.exe but ofcourse i get the error when that happens.

I istalled pol from the original version on my laptop then i installed the pol vista on my jump drive and took the files from that and replaced with the filies i have on my laptop and then installed ffxi. It seems to install fine now I just don't know if it will work properly.
