View Full Version : Some Q's for corsairs

I've been thinking about leveling another job, and I'm kinda torn between cor and smn, unless I level both >.>, but that's slightly besides the point right now I guess.
Anywho, I've just got a few questions to hopefully clear up my understanding of how corsairs work.
I'm looking at the Wiki article on them, and it says you need a certain job in your party to gain the special boost to your rolls, now does that have to be a main job or a sub job?
While each roll has unlucky numbers, you bust a roll if you roll a 12 correct? So would you ever want to use Double Up if you get a 6 on the first roll? Unless it happens to be a roll's unlucky number?
Corsair subjobs, I'd think that ranger is the obvious choice, are there any other subs I should consider?

I'd say you'll want /WHM and /NIN.
In a really mage heavy party where you don't pull, /BRD may be good for Ballad (COR50/BRD25+) and a second chance dispel using Magic Finale. Not a high priority support job, though, I'd imagine.

Hi-o Vyruu,
Job bonus' to rolls are on main jobs only.
Double up on 6..depends on the roll and if you have any busts up. Typically I will always double up an Evokers on a 6 because of the few numbers that are really sweet for it. Coupled with how important refresh is viewed. Other less-essential rolls I may hang on a 6 depending on the pt.
I've /Rng to 65 now and have ?whm levelled but have never been asked to use it or felt it would have been better other than mission runs. I understand ?Nin is useful 72-ish in competitive camps. I got a ways to go though to test it myself.
Enjoy, this job is a blast.

I actually posted a guide for this a few minutes ago, since we lacked one. Go check it out ^^
And, no, there is not a bonus for having the subjobs in PT.

It's main job only for the bonus, and they only apply when the rolls are done by a COR main.
As for subs, RNG WHM NIN and BRD seem to be the best, with /RNG and /NIN being the most common. I've yet to see anyone try /WAR yet though for berserk. Who knows, could be a nice way to deal some extra damage while buffing the PT?

I still think /BRD is a dubious subjob, I'm of the opinion that a subjob should have a defensive function or a boost in offense (Best defense is sometimes a good offense). COR's B rating in gun is noticably felt at high level, which is kinda why I find /WHM and /NIN a loathsome concept for EXP. But I will admit /NIN adds something to COR at merit level, particularly where Peacemaker and pulling are concerned. And that /WHM adds something to misc. scenarios.
the offensive end /RNG is supreme, offering the highest accuracy and damage abilities. Defensive is WHM and NIN subs. Add to WHM the fact there's cureative ability and defensive buffs to fall back on. But both NIN and RNG offer greater accuracy than WHM would, though
WAR is somewhat in the same boat as WHM for accuracy, no JA under sub to support accuracy. Kinda hurts to have Berserk but not Barrage, Warcry is frivelous at best. I tried it out once as BRD/WAR, didn't really bring much to the table for the PT, I just took hits better.
in endgame situations, I'd think WHM or RNG were the better subs. Support classes aren't terribly helpful when they're dead and /WHM would resolve that matter with reraise. I don't mind dying on COR, but its preferable to do as little of it as possible for the sake of helping win a battle. Plus I think is a shame to play pure support and have refresh, but no MP to gain for yourself. COR/BRD doesn't really add any defense and, even worse, no job abilities.
