My BLU is approaching the level to use Ifrit's Blade (Str+3/Atk+10), and I could really use it.
Is it possible for a DRG75/BLU37 to solo Ifrit Prime? It's possible that I could have a
WHM or SMN helping me, but not sure. I don't have the cash to hire other
help, by the way.
This would also be cool for bragging rights

Probably, yeah. Super Jump over the 2H and the rest should be pretty routine.

When does Ifrit use the 2H?
It's the only thing I'm really worried about, since I don't know of any AoE attacks.

I think all standard avatar primes use their 2H at about 50% health. I'm not totally sure since I usually just soak it up as a rdm and not notice. >.> His other moves aren't really that big of a concern since he doesn't have any status attacks. I'm pretty sure his 2H is his only AoE.

Avatars ignore Shadows unless it's with physical hits.
I think. But I'm pretty sure I've had avatars cast on me, do 0 damage (Stoneskin and bar-spells ftw!) only to hit a shadow next time they swing.
As a DRG, you'll have to use weather and gear resistance to your advantage, because Avatars are dangerous if you don't have shadows.
I went RDM/BLM to Titan by accident... and hit hits might be weak, but his en spells randomly did anywhere from 0-80. Thankfully, he's weak to wind, so i did gravity and ran away so I could convert ._.
Not my proudest moment, but I learned and I never went to an avatar without /NIN.
Point is, it'll probably be more beneficial to go DRG/NIN and have a WHM or some other healer to Regen and stuff on you.

Avatar spells (Fire II/Fire IV) ignore shadows, but I'm pretty sure their physical BPs (Double Punch, Burning Strike) still get absorbed by them. Again, I'm not 100% sure of the mechanics of it because it's so criminally easy for rdms that I wasn't paying strict attention. >.>;
ok personally i have attempted to solo avatars, i have never tried ifrit tho. I went Drg/Whm before blue was introduced with the abilties that blue can add i think the ability to be able to make these much easier. Make sure you do pull Ifrit to the bottom of the zone, so that if you do die you can rr and win. All primes 2hr at 50% and you have more then enough time to avoid it.

Well, I tried it on Watersday.
It was going great, and I was taking no especially dangerous damage (Fire IV for about 200-300 I think).
I died.
The only problem was my wyvern pulling hate. By about 55-60%, Ifrit had slowly worn down my wyvern. If I had a way to keep hate on myself, I could super jump over Inferno and easily have won.
I had some friends help me kill it, so I got my sword anyway. I might try this again sometime though, just for fun.

I never tried but from my research/info and soloing techniques, I think WHM sub would be many more times helpful.
High Jump once at the beginning, never High Jump again for the remainder of the fight.
When Ifrit uses his 2Hour, try to have 100% TP when you land, Penta Thrust and Divine Seal + Cure III to grab hate back.
Wyrm Armet would help a great deal here, or you'll be forced to cast a lot more than usual.
Keep Bar-Spells up ...
Go in the battlefield with the Call Wyvern timer near ready, like 3 minutes.
I am aware that the Wyrm Armet option may not be available to everyone (it isn't to me) but based on how powerful they are capable of hitting as well as how some Avatar special moves can come completely unresisted, taking you to very low HP, either you'll be spamming a LOT more spells than usual to get Healing Breath off or a move can one potentially one shot you.
Now Avatars are nearly like elementals, even for it being only Level 65 (I think), they are quite hard to damage. Now you could of course go with HP gear if you don't have a Wyrm Armet, but I believe your lack of attack will draw the battle out far longer, enhancing the chance that you'll get one shotted by a move of the Avatars. But with some HP gear, depending on race, I think you can bump your HP up to 1700 (with food) so this will give you a safety margin of about 850HP. I believe, by "standard", 1200 odd HP won't cut it.
The video I watched had a DRG (Elvaan) fighting Ramuh and that took him about 11 minutes I think, it wasn't too long, but that was in attack gear, with Wyrm Armet, macroed with Drachen Armet, I think that helped majorly. Battlefield Time Limit is 30 minutes I believe, so without attack gear you can stretch it pretty far.
Somethings in mind:
Pigeon Earrings +1 or the Assault Item Earrings.
Gigant Mantle
RSE Belt
Bomb Queen Ring (I guess it's not applicable vs Ifrit)
Bloodbead Ring (rare to find, not really applicable either really)
Enmity items may help, but I believe as long as you don't use High Jump and where you get the chance Divine Seal and Cure III yourself, you should be able to maintain hate.
