View Full Version : Funding RNG and COR

Im really looking into leveling RNG so I can sub it for both COR and SAM. The job seems good, and Im level 4 (yes I know, long way to go). However, what has put me off is the money involved. Seems like I'll be spending quite alot on arrows/bolts. This is a turn-off since Im broke. So I was wondering exactly how expensive RNG is? Is it worth using both a Crossbow and Bow if I plan on leveling SAM and COR? About how much will I spend to 37?
And best of all, how do you all fund your RNG?

Well, first question would be: How far are you going with RNG?
If you're going only for sub level, I'd at least take it to 40 for BCNM potential and leave it at that. In that regard, RNG won't be very expensive, I doubt you'd even spend more than 500k getting that far, possibly less. Low level bolts and arrows are pretty cheap, so its not going to be a huge setback.
COR specializes in guns, which is related to Marksmanship skill. SAM does pretty well with Bows, so you're going to want to level Archery skill as well. As RNG it will be pretty easy to skill both, you just gotta be dilligent about keeping both current as you level.
Be warned, though. COR will be more expensive than levelling a RNG sub. Be prepared to save in advance when levelling it.

Yea Im taking RNG up to 40 for the subs and such. I planned on leveling marksmanship and archery while I level. As for COR, I plan on leveling SAM or MNK up high enough so I can get some money to fund COR. Just that if I level SAM, I want to sub RNG.

Do a bit of woodworking and alchemy crafts. They'll pay well since you make ammunition for both rng , cor and nin classes.

I've been working on Woodworking as I go, making arrows == insanely cheap. Also, I'm making profit off of Woodworking at the moment, so it's all working out well. There's a gap in Woodworking however, at level 14, you need at least 20 WW to make your arrows successfully, and that becomes a pain. But if you can find a way to level it without losing money, then you're okay.
Oh, and I pre-leveled both Archery/Marksmanship, so I get to use Archery as much as I want, until I get to the awesome Holy Bolt levels.

Aww that's what I was gonna say XD
I guess I'll add something:
Most people that play Ranger and/or corsair seriously do alot of crafting to make their own ammo. Two of the required crafts are listed above and a good for gunpowder+status bolts(Alchemy) and assembling arrows(woodworking). Some other ones are boneworking(arrowheads), Smithing(bullets/arrowheads), Goldsmithing(more bullets/arrowheads), and some Clothcraft(fletchings)
I've toyed with ranger and gotten it over lvl 20...now I'm abit too broke to toy with it for awhile but if I play it again I'm seriously gonna have to start crafing ammo!
RNG is not expensive until you use demon/kabura arrows or silver bullets

Maple Sugar should do nicely. It's a level 21 woodworking craft, and it sells for break-even to profit. All it takes is a maple log and a lightning crystal, and only 4 synths for a stack which can be AHed for 1500 on Midgardsormr.

QFT. On my server, Alchemy and Woodworking are pretty difficult to make a decent profit in >. <
I've got around 69 skill in both, and I still can't find anything worthwhile other than Wax and even then I'd rather just mine Iron in Zeruhn and buy DS ore off the AH for 5k and sell ingots for 10 each.
That said, Lumberjack is an amazing tool for making cheap arrows. You can amass all the arrowwood lumber you'll need in no time. Making your own arrowheads/boltheads on the other hand, is very painful and often requires a good chunk of smithing/bone skill to really be worth it. Same goes for fletchings (which are usually dirt cheap anyway)

Shhhh.
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
Seriously though, RNG isn't as expensive as people want to believe it is, in fact, no consumable-based job is that expensive. Its just when RNG and COR hit 50 and start being able to use iron/silver bullets and higher tier arrows that they both see a greater expense.
And really, its just the EXP levels 50-67/72 where it hurts, since there's a constant need to burn ammo there. As far 67+ goes, RNG can practically live of the Orthenus' Bow for the remainder of his EXP days and use it a bit for merits depending where you go, Bow for Mamool Ja camp though. For COR/RNG at 70+, if you make the effort in advance to have a Joyeuse, that really stretches out the ammo as. Additionally, COR/NIN at 72+ can pull and stage fights like a BRD using Peacemaker and Light Shot. If a COR gets invited to a burn PT to pull at that level, pulling and buffing are really all you do, so you're not really spending bullets on melee output.
If gil does become an issue, RNG can always skew down to weaker arrows and go out farming with them. But RNG is very well-liked for BCNMs, ISNM and KSNMs so that's another way to make gil.
