Ok... I have searched far and wide for a way to fix this and no answer... I reinstalled drivers, installed new drivers, old drivers, set settings differently, and much more and no fix.
See, On ffxi I am randomly having multi-colored lines shooting across the screen sometimes a few sometimes many, sometimes thin sometimes thick. But thats not it, models disapear and reapear and its just annoying, one second some s whole dragoon is not there the next it is and his face is gone. I have checked my game files it all good so i have no clue what it is!
PLEASE HELP~
I need this fixed and as soon as possible, it has been about a month now... and no fix. I can not even play becuase of it, someone give me a answer please!

Sounds like an Nvidia chipset with incompatible drivers. But yes, please provide your information including Operating System and Video Card model, as well as what version of the video drivers.

how old is the Gcard? Is it overclocked/could it be 'going bad' on you from age or abuse?
My desktop has a problem with parts of models loading/unloading/reloading/loading in neon colors (WTF) and generally sounds similar to your problem (Without the lines, though) because the card itself got damaged in a power surge.

Hardware:
AMD 64 4000+
Geforce 6800 gs (year old card) (stock settings)
Epox nForce 4 9NPA3 Ultra
3 gigs of ram
Thats about it
OS: Windows XP pro
Direct X: 9 most up-to date version if i'm correct
Drivers: I have tried old driver/new drivers neither had a affect. Using most up-to-date at the moment (I think), 93.71.
This is only on FFXI which is the odd thing, if it was on everything it would probley be easier to find the problem.
download NVIDIA ForceWareâ„¢ Ver.66.93

I thought it went away, but it is now just less frequent and not as bad. but the problem is still there. The lines are occasionly poping up but not as many x.x SO what else could it be =(

Well FFXI seemed to only have 3 ForceWare versions they had results for. That would be 56.64 (Probably to low for GeForce 6), 66.93 (which only supports a few of the GeForce 6 series not all of it), and finally 91.47.
If 66.93 didn't work then maybe try 91.47. Since the GeForce you have is a 6800 I'm wondering if maybe version 66.93 doesn't fully support it. The other thing that FFXI's website notes is that "Bump Mapping" has some affect to it, probably want to get into FFXI's configuration screen outside of the game and make some adjustments there.
If the blinking effects of the characters have gone away, were the dragon vanishes and appears and there is no model shredding. Just lines of color showing up or there will be something like a color image kind of hidden behind other color, like if you move and it flashes briefly and goes away. This may be a model issue, it can be any model that's loading in that zone. Issue would be that the model was altered with VRS and it's texture data is corrupt. It can be something as small as a 1 pixel line on a hate that is part of the texture error and it'll cause that.
Though keeping mark of when it happens should help you start to target what's causing it. If it even happens in your Mog House that could be helpful in targeting the problem if it is a texture error.
EDIT:
You can also try dxdiag and see what DirectX you have. If it is 9.0 then try getting 9.0c and see if that fixes it, 9.0 is supposedly a bit messed up. It was the one that Windows update installed, microsoft never bothered to go back and have windows update do the correct 9.0c version. Have to download it from the download section instead of using update.

Hope that what was the case? A little detail to have a track record of work done would be nice incase someone else runs into this.

Does it only happen with XI? I've had those problems (with different games) and it ended up with me having to replace the card. :worry:

I've had this happen to me before. It was a problem for about a week. I remember crashing out of FFXI a lot, probably because of connection lost. Whenever I disconnect from the internet (lol-dialup) my computer slows down to a stagger for about a minute. If I disconnect while on FFXI, I usually have problems with POL and I have to close it and restart it.
Unfortunately...I don't really remember how I fixed it. I know I didn't update my video card drivers, or any other drivers. I didn't have to reinstall FFXI either. I remember doing the Check File thing in POL (before you even log on, there's a check file button). I think I also defraged then. I haven't seen it since.
I didn't see any mention of reinstalling FFXI (but I'm also really tired), so I'd do that if POL's check file doesn't help.

Screenshots don't do this picture justice. The colors/lines were changing about 5 times a second.

Did Stooky ever confirm which DX version he/she is using? That would help a bit.
Tirrock, the only times I ever had those problems was when I tried to watch anime while seeking. My video card at the time (6600 GT), didn't have enough video ram to do both (only 128mb).

The liens on my screen and stuff is way different than Tirrocks error. there like thin liens shotting and moving around the screen and a model actualy disappears and reappears and it is so annoying x.x
And yes this is only in ffxi, no where else do i get this error.

Just checking in... maybe someone knows something.... I cant return my graphics card to see if its a problem with that, my warrenty expired... So... I do not know...
The problem just seems to be getting worse... no lines appear all over my screen...
I just hope I can fix it with out dishing out a lot of money and getting a new graphics card (I am planing on upgrading just not yet.... so if it is the problem I can..) and such, so please if you have any clue please help.

it could be several different things, but it sounds more like graphics card is dying or possibly just overheating. could be an overheating issue elsewhere also. unplug pc clean it out good. repeat uplug it first. after cleaning it try hooking it all back up without cover and look at all fans and make sure they are spinning properly. could also be caused by power supply dying as well. also could be a small operating system problem or other software.

My computer is not over heatings, so it has to be the PSU, Graphics card, or OS... So Im going to have to do something o.o
But I mean if my PSU was dying I would expect problems in all games and in normal windows... If my graphics card was dying I would expect it every where. I dont know.. more fideling around.
