I quit for a while (6 months) and just came bck about a week ago, I am on day 8 of raising my little chocobo (got egg from Jeuno quest)

I had a few questions.......

I have been caring for it, until its energy is gone, then watching over it once..
( I do this each day)
Short walk
feed carrot
short walk
feed carrot
short walk
feed carrot
watch over

and my care plan is setup like this
Plan 1 Listen to music 2 day
Plan 2 Walk in town 2 day
Plan 3 Listen to music 2 day
Plan 4 Walk in town 2 day

am I doing anything wrong?
any tips?
any changes?

Everyone does their Choco care differently. This is how I do mine.

Talk to VCS member to get cutscene.
Feed Choco Vomp Carrot.
Feed Choco another Vomp Carrot.
Go on walks until energy is gone.
Feed Choco a Chocolixir.
Go on walks until energy is gone.
Check Choco's status.

This plan is a bit expensive but gives me the best results. I have raised 4 Chocos to adults and 3 of them to forced retirement so far. All of them have ended up with First Class Strength and Endurance.

thanks for the idea, I know its all about personal preferences, but you are raising it with the stats I acualy want :p so I might see about adopting what you are doing.

Don't mix physical and mental careplans. They'll cancel each other out. You can choose one or the other. When your chocobo becomes an adult, you can do physical/mental mixing using the high-end careplans, but you won't end up with great stats on anything. You can pick one of Strength or Receptivity (I recommend Strength, but since I don't know what Receptivity does, I can't say it's a bad stat), and one of either Discernment (for a digging chocobo) or Endurance (for a riding chocobo). If you select Endurance, it basically forces you to choose strength as Endurance is raised by delivering packages which lowers both Discernment and Receptivity.
