Not yet, and Square hasn't said any plans to put one in. I think it's because they want to promote teamwork or something.

I think it would be good if they added a pvp arena

A clan would more or less be your Linkshell.

Yes clans are useless, this isn't counter-strike...

no they are not there people that can help you level and give you tips if you need help doing quest or missions trust me i hate talking to people i dont know it sucks but if you are in a link shell or guild what ever you can ask some one you now or are team mates with
so its not useless to be in a guild

clans are actually quite helpful when in need of a PT and of course your questions can be answered

I think we're actually better off in this game without pk....We dont' exactly need lv 50 uber 1337 elveens going around killing n00bs and stealing their stuff...the game would be too corrupt and violent.

If theres an option to refuse or the arena mode then it would be really cool.

I wouldn't mind a little PVP in FFXI, but only dueling not free PK.

Something like Lineage woudl be fun too; A free pk server, and a non-free pk server

An idea would be an actual arena located in a major city. This of course used for friendly bouts or needing to solve a dispute between two players on who is stronger. One on one combat only though. Place bets on upcoming matches and even have tournements. Place restrictions on matchs like no magic, no sp. abilities, etc. I think this could be awesome idea.

(Definitly could be used for bragging rights :) )

Seeing how the story line doesn't fit PVP I think tournaments will be the only way, to see who's the strongest to fight the Shadow Lord or something.

it'd suck being a white mage :P

PvP does sound like fun, but it could have some bad outcomes.
I do not have the game, so these are just opinions from other MMORPG's.

I am not sure about the amount of camping in FFXI, but imagine trying to camp a MOB for 2 hours, some group comes along, destroys you, takes your spawn and moves on.......

While fighting, sometimes it is hard to target the MOB if more than 1. Clicking by accident on your own teammate could have some bad consequences for all.

Imagine offering a linkshell/WP or some rare item, just to have someone come along and "take " it from you. I might just camp the outside of a city, and "rob" everyone as they come in....lol

An Arena would be cool. No permanent (sp) damage from death, or defeat. But before the fight, each person offers a reward to fight for.(and that is is, not their whole invetory). No magic could be a problem, then the casting classes would not have a chance.

The gambling option for the arena would be cool, but this could also lead to some cheating. Throwing a match for your "friends" to earn a ton of gil.

Just some thoughts

By saying no magic I meant it in terms to limit the match you and someone else would like to have. Say if you placed a valuable item up for the prize and you wanted it to be a "fair" match, you could choose a rule such as "no magic" before you begin the match and it would be enforced during the bout.

The idea is that the only PVP going on would take place in the arena and nowhere else, so you wouldn't have to worry about getting mugged by a high level player and loose items or experiance from dying.

I think "ps v ps" would be cool! players vs players. Just imagine a giant arena, roaring croud in the middle of san'doria castle, a linkshell alliance(18 players) vs another of equal size! Warriors, mages, theives, rangers etc... all duking it out to win the championchip of the anual Vana'diel fighting tournament! All people pay an entry fee to get in the battle, and all the spectators gil put together and given to the victorious linkshell alliance! The amount of gil would be tremendous, even split between all 18 players! There can be 1 vs 1 all the way up to the grand 18 vs 18! First will be the preliminaries. To quallify to get into the tourn., you will need to beat a number of monsters increasing in strength and speed! ( this idea is kinda like kingdom hearts eccept its multi-player) The toournament lasts many days due to the number of entrants. If a player doesnt show up on time the opponent wins by default. By oppontent i mean single 1 vs 1 fights up to 18 vs 18! Cretain rules may apply as so fitted to the players( as our friend dauragon) And no, "jef" it would not suck to be a white mage infact there would be a demand for them before the tournament. And not just gil would be the prize for winning, rare items can be awarded to the victors and the leaders of each winning linkshell!

Oh, man I'm getting carried away here! but you have to admit, this ( if put into the game by square) would be the sole purpose of playing the game. Killing monsters, keeping the cities and countries safe, and all the while training to be the world champion!

Just imagine you being the leader of your linkshell alliance and your reward on top of gil and a rare item would be a bigger mog house and a "VANA'DIEL WORLD TOURN. CUP" in the center piece of the home up for speculation. You know i think i would have been a great asset to square in the making of this game. Think aboput it, if the game could do this, wouldnt you want it more?
But that doesnt mean it cant happen! It just means it's very unlikely to happen but anything is possible! Maybe if people mail and contact square about something like this, they will get the idea and do it......Nah, probably not.........but you can always hope for such things,eh!

i think pvp would be really cool but square probably wont make one becuz of all the l337 guys who play for 25 hours a day and are on like level 400 would jus run around and have a noobie masacre. especially taru taru noobs. i mean how much more vulnerable can you get. so in a way square is jsut lookin out at the long term effects, hoping that people will be able to start at anytime and not have to worry about the uber d00ds who have nothing else to do. Of course if you were an 3\/|L L337 m4$t3r like moi it wouldnt be a problem:thumbsup:

if it is not free PVP, then it will be fine... i have seen many MMORPG which many high lvl players kill the n00b. and of course, there also some other games which come out with some restriction and that.

about the arena, it is a good idea

I think Zach missed my whole point on the arena idea, you would have to agree with fighting before hand. You'd have the choice if you wanted to fight a high level player. If they implemented an icon to use next to your name showing your intrested in a challenger (similar to the icon used when looking for a party to join), you could just stand in the arena and wait for someone to issue a challenge. A menu would come up that both you and your challenger could see; select terms, restrictions, prizes, etc. If your choice of restrictions conflict, simply cancel the challenge. This could be a working system, but not the most entertaining to veiwers and probably wouldn't allow and non-participants to place bets.

Edit: Oh nevermind, you were talking about a general PvP.
Sorry:sweat:

oh god not this again...

I have a buttload of arguments about why it's not needed, but one can only post the same information so many times before getting sick of typing it all up again. Just play the game and you'll see why it won't work.

In an Arena it WOULD work.... And it woudl kick ass too. [hell, it's the best part of Lineage for one]
