So, I was farming today in Saromaunge Champine (sp) killing Skink after Skink after Skink after Skink and was getting nowhere fast. After killing about 50 or so Skinks with no drop I finaly gave up. I mentioned something to my LS on the way back to Jeuno about the crappy drop rate, and one of them said, "Well, Saromaunge drop rate sucks anyway... and it's practily a new moon." (At the time it was 7%)
I asked him if that really matters? He said yes...
New Moon = Bad
Full Moon = Good
I was just wondering if this is true? Does the Moon Faze acutally help or hinder Farming?

S'ok... but yeah... Moon affects crafting and farm drops.

Er. Didn't notice the two posts.
I never noticed a difference in drop rates while farming, but I was eyeballing it every time. I wouldn't say that it's impossible that moon phase effects drop rates, but I think it's unlikely.

Does Moon Phase effect drop rates? Yes. Does it effect them to any great extent? No. Just farm whenever you are going to farm. I can tell you from experience, Raptor Skins are just hard to get.

I still have yet to see conclusive proof of this...

Well, if it helps... I was skillchaining Darkness to skill up my Kodachi Of Trials... the Coffer Key for Castle Zvahl dropped 3 times. :-P

Every little bit helps. Farming is a repetative often dull task, which is why I prefer to stack on any advantages that allow me to get my drops with less time spent on it. TH1 makes some difference TH2 makes a bit more Enhance treasure hunter effects on equipment a little further moon phase is just scheduling a repetative task to a slightly more efficient time to to it so instead of 4 hours I can spend 3 and a half. Huge difference no, but if I'm scheduling a time when I break from real life tasks for a little bit why not get done in the 3.5 block instead of the 4?
btw: Curently saving up of a big item and I've come to appreciate the minor differences since I'm spending a fair amount of farming time lately and have to budget my time at the moment.

Though I can provide no hard proof to support the theory of moon phase affecting drop rate, as an avid Farmer to support my crafting, leveling, and equipment purchases, there has never been a better time for drops than Full Moon. Tack on top of that TH2 and I rake in a lot of materials. It's just been pure observation of mine.
As opposed to New Moon phases where I tend to hit dry-spell on farming.
Does it help? Can not say with 100% certainty, but why not, everything else in this game seems to be affected by every other minute detail (See: Crafting > Directional + Day synthesis, Gardening, Avatar Prime Fights)
All I can say is, I tend to return with an inventory load fuller on Full Moon farming sessions.

Funny, Ive done endless Dynamis, Kings, Sky runs on Full Moon with TH+2 in every PT and seen shit drops more often than anything. The same applies for half, three quarters, and new moon as well.
I think the drop rate is as many things in this game... totally random. I am not saying the moon doesnt affect things because I cant prove it, but for every example of 'full moon gives better drops' others give I can give examples of it not.

I've always felt that certain drops were tied to certain things.
For instance, some days you go into Rolanberry Fields, and 4/5 crawlers drops thread. On that same day, beehive chips - normally a common drop - drop 1 in 4. Now maybe the next time you log on, Beehive chips will be neigh constant, and after an hour, you have 1 silk thread.
Obviously, I don't have evidence and numbers. But it certainly seems like certain items get in "common drop" mode. I wouldn't be surprised if they just assigned every item an element, and based off of it's relationship to the current day (strong, weak, neutral), modified it's drop rate %. Likewise, they could've assigned every item a moon phase. So certain items prefer certain phases.
Hey, at least I try...

I tested hunting Dharmels in Terongi Canyon today during new moon with a 46 thief subbed ranger. Dharmel Meat dropped reasonably frequent, but I had the worst Dharmel hide drop rate I've ever run into there.. PReviously I've hunted this area for Giant Feamurs to turn into bone picks when leveling bonecraft as well as raising leathercraft on the hides. Interestingly enough my Femur collection rose higer than normal. (I'm certain the hide rate went down not sure if the bone rate went up since I was testing regarding hides and noticed the # of Femures in inventory as an afterthought). I'll be trying a littlemore later but for now I'm leaning tword this particilar drop being affected by moon phase. I'll edit this post if I get new information. (I'll only be using sessions for data that I spend and hour and a half or more since it gets more of an average.)

IMHO Rare/ex stuff seems not to be affected by anything in game. These items seem to be purely random drop.
