Forgive me if I missed this somewhere but I can't find it looking thru here.

My wife and I were under the impression that there is no message when a spell is learned. A few other BLUs we know mentioned this as well.

However, recently a friend posted a couple of pics that had a message in the chat log saying he learned a spell. Is this new or is there some filter we missed?

It's something you missed most likely. Each time I learned a spell, it specifically said it.

Yeah, it's always told me at the end of the fight if I learned a spell.

Yeah, it tells you learned the spell at the end of the fight, right along with, "You earned such and such experience points."

Depending on lag and moves at the end of the fight, it can be easily missed. It seems to tell you when the mob loses the last of its hit points, which isnt always when the 'You have received xxx exp points', it can usually be in the middle of a group of text that can be easily missed.

People have reported that they learn something when they have received no message, I can honestly say every spell Ive learned came with a message telling me I learned that skill, this is over two characters and about 50/60 skills learned.

it does and it doesn't sometimes becouse of lag reaon it doesn not tell you, so i susguest in checking the bottom of the blue magic list where you can set spells to be sure you haven't learned it yet

Every time a mob uses said TP move, I'm automatically looking at the chat log hoping to have learned it, so I always notice when I've learned a spell. The chat log is even nice enough to put an exclamation point at the end. I guess after three full levels of attempting to learn Head Butt, I deserved a damn exclamation point.

I get a message when I learn a spell. However, there were two or three spells where I missed seeing the message in the battle log spam, but when I expanded the log I could find the message. Unfortunately, I probably learned Bad Breathe this way, but kept plugging away at morbols for another 30 mintues before I saw I learned the spell.

just remember you don't learn the spell UNLESS the mob uses it THEN you kill it (in which you have a "chance" to learn it once its slain) look for it after killing the mob.

It's not until the end of the fight that you know if you learned it or not... never during.

sounded like she just forgot to say "I always check the log at the end of the fight" is all. Otherwise, she'd never actually know, would she?

No, she said everytime the mob uses it's TP move, she checks the log.

As a rule of thumb, your learn message will appear in your Echo color (or it least it does for me, I have this stuff on default) and will simply say "Name learns Spell!" so: "Kholdstare learns Bad Breath!" or "Eticket learns Bludgeon!" would appear, and it's ALWAYS when the very last of the HP has been dropped. So if it takes one swing/spell to kill a mob, the message will appear AS that swing/spell hits. Don't look for it in the "So-and-so defeats the mob. You gain xxx experience points" area.
