If you kill the NM (not required) the quest ends. So if you don't want that to happen, then don't kill it.

Jeez, why did I not hear about this quest sooner? Thanks for the info link Murphie, and thanks for posting this thread raidenn. I hope I get lucky with a ??? box and get a Cerberus hide @_@.
