Gae Bolg vs Alky bracelets?

So, assuming I have time to acquire only one of these items during the break which should I go for? Current lance and hand equipment is Grand Knight's Lance and Elky bracelets.

I'm leaning towards the bracelets right now.

GreyLynx's thread made it sound like the Gae Bolg was a bit too slow for party use, however with a sam sub you can bring it's delay down to the 495 range with Hasso, which is only slightly longer than a normal lance's delay, without a samurai sub.

But +4 str is kind of hard to pass up at the same time, and only 2 levels away from being able to wear them and omg but it'd be so awesome if I could get a pair.

And really, I'd trade in the Gae Bolg for an Imperial Nezza, but I would use the bracelets from the Gigas until I either got AF+1 hands or Ares gauntlets.

Why not use Spiked Finger Gauntlets for tp and bracelets for WS?

Don't worry about the delay on Gae Bolg. Last night we went to fight nm for Rutters and I was helping a mnk get his ws points by doing Wheeling Thrust + Dragon Kick. He was in full party gear and I still was waiting on him to get tp. I was subbing rdm and was geared towards soloing and not my exp gear.

With Gae Bolg, I cannot macro in my af feet anymore during exp due to me pulling hate. That lance is a hate machine. I cringe every time I do a double attack in a party because I know I am about to get hit.

Try it out, I love mine and will keep it until I can equip my Neza.

DRG in my LS recently decided to set his sites on this Lance. Did some research and found out that since it's such a pain in the arse to get to, it's ALWAYS up. All he did was set a time when all the LS's heavy hitters were available, and we and clobbered the NM.

I just fired up my PS2, updated PlayOnline, and the checked through the update log. Well I noticed that Alkys and Pallas' NM are now popped NM. Just comes down to the issue of what item is needed to pop them, and how much they will start going for in Rolanberry's Bazaar~a~thon.

Just wait thought, S-E will then tell us the spawn point for the NM only pops once ever 18-24 hours!! Just to steal our Thunder. hahaha

Now the problem will become people camping whatever drops these items. This helps in the fact that we won't be spending hours on end trying to find a NM that spawns, but it creates the problem of over camped mobs to get a pop item. I guess we'll never be fully happy, huh? lol

I'm late to the party but in the end the Alky Bracelets are the better of the two if you have to pick just one. The Gae Bolg is great but it gets left behind quickly.

However, there is no hand piece better for STR+ for DRG at any point then the Alky Bracelets. There are other pieces that are better for melee/TP building, but for Wheeling Thrust there is no piece that even comes close. For Penta I'd say it's a toss-up between Alkys and Heca +1 (due to the DEX). Granted, the pop item is a bitch to get, (I think we went about 0/25 last night) but they're more then worth the work. Plus, you can use them with other endgame melee jobs down the line if you level them.

I do wish you could Upgrade Gae Bolg into an appropriately stat'd out level 75 weapon. From Gae's level and comfortably into 72ish, it's a wonderful weapon.

I'm basically posting here just because I wanted to devil's advocate a bit.

Basically... Gae will never be "too slow." In fact, it actually increases your tp gain because you get more tp from Jump/High Jump than you would any other spear in the game. And since those abilities are slave to static timers, every minute you'll have a tp exploit for using a high delay weapon. This is extremely entertaining as /sam, I imagine. As I'm not a DRG myself, my perspective has been an outside one. But my friend dearly loves his Gae Bolg, and he kicks my ass.
