Beastmaster always left me with the impression that this was very rugged and manly class and yet:
We wear red ribbons.
We wear corsets.
We emit a girlish giggle and shoot pink hearts when we charm things.
We have crabs.
And things are intimidated by me presence? How? Pre-AF I'm a drag queen!
At least my AF solves the first problem, no one can see my Taru's corset anyway >.> I don't know if the forth is so bad, CourierCarrie is the best and hardest-working crab ever. Fights for justice, delievers stuff... but still, its a damn crab. You'd think SaberSivarde would stand up to her, but the crab kills him. Crabs and Rarhabs are by far the greatest threat to Vana'diel, even Bahamut secretly fears them. Show the Zilart a crab and they'll seriously cower in fear of it.
That whole girly Charm laugh still bothers me, though. That's not what a man does, I should be throwing a steak at monsters to charm them. If I did that, they would never betray me - I gave them food, no smart animal would kill a mealticket. Let the girls have those silly hearts. >.>

*shrug* Better to use little racing hearts for Charm than Provoke. (No, don't speculate on what kind "provocation" that would be.)
Maybe it's just a bad translation? I think the Japanese term for "Beastmaster" just means "animal user", and the description says something about good at controlling them. Nothing "manly" about BST in S-E's Japanese job listing page (http://www.playonline.com/ff11/intro/about/job01.html?pageID=about), as far as I can tell.
BTW, what giggle? It's been a while since I last used my BST22, but I don't remember giggle sound of any sort.

Just says they're skilled in communicating and controlling animals (i looked at the english site, I totally don't know japanese). But axes are what makes it manly >.>
The English name used to be Tamer. After FFXI all the re-releases of the old games adapted it to "Beastmaster."
And I don't know about the JP version of the game, but the english version totally has a girly giggle with charm.

Yeah, there is a little girly giggle with Charm, partly why I add a little =~.^= to my charm macro.

I've been using BST for the past 3 days and haven't heard the giggle.
Maybe my volume isn't up too high though.

OK on second thought I can hear it and it makes my Bst pride go down just a little.

Why? 1.) You're a taru. Everything you do is cute. 2.) It's just a sound effect.

For my Hume, it's more of a quick sigh. Or a gasp. Kind of a cross between the two, actually. No giggling though, which makes me feel kind of gypped.

It's basically a gasp for my Tarutaru female as well. She's Large model, in case that makes a difference (a friend of mine has attested to there being a dramatic difference between Tarutaru male Small and Medium voices...)

May I remind you that this game is designed for girls as well as guys? That being said, who cares what it sounds like as long as it lands!!
There's nothing wrong with red ribbons - in days of olde when knights were truly bold, they would sally forth on trusty steed with their ladies 'favor' - usually a handkerchief - firmly tied to their lance. Blue was the cheapest dye of the day, so red inferred aristocracy or royalty!
These days of multi-gyms have done away with men wearing corsettes, although viewing the never-ending parade of beer-bellies, perhaps they should bring them back! Perhaps a new law that required any man with a waist measurement greater than his maximum chest expansion to wear a pink tutu instead of pants would help! :) A well dressed lady in a short skirt can turn heads, even at age 60+ - on the other hand, a man's ability to hide his belt buckle at only 45 is sexy? Nuff said!
As for crabs, I'm not even going there! CC is the single uncapped jug available at level 75 (without having to do some serious farming for ridiculous ingredients). So we have crabs. That has to be a big step up from the normies who labor day in day out for uber gear only to be killed by the bunny that the BST didn't charm off them cos they made fun of the BST's DD abilities ;)

Maybe they should change the pinkish hearts to blue hearts for males. I know about the giggle, maybe make it more of a low tone chuckle for the dudes. As far as differences in vocal expressions of characters goes, I would say it is definately noticable. Me and a friend had cpu and ps2 side by side and were in the same room his character did make distinct sounds when swinging weapons. Us being both elvaan i think he might have been large and me medium. I make a yeot! sound and his, as i put it sounds like scuriot! this probably makes no sense to you guys but its funny to us lol.
But yeah the bst giggle is borderline flamish.

Followed by yellow stars, purple horseshoes, and red balloons! Honeslty, it would still be a heart. It will just look a little bit more like a Lisa Frank binder from the '80s if it were blue.

I swear my Mithra says "Hit 'em!"

You forgot green clovers, anyway blue would still be better than pink.

If Charm would just land when I absolutely need it, I couldn't care less if it's lollipops and cupcakes served with a giggle and a smirk for all eternity.
