FFXI Dwarfism

I've been looking around for a possible fix for this and haven't had much luck, though it seems like its a pretty common problem. I read back 5 pages in this forum and browsed the stickies.

FFXI + Widescreen Monitor = Dwarfs for avatars.

I first heard of this when my old LS leader switched from XBOX to her laptop, but now have experienced it first hand. I was stuck at my inlaws for like 3 months and the only PC I had to play on was my wife's laptop, which of course (like everything else these days) has a widescreen display. I noticed right off that my characters were shorter and wider, as though they'd been stretched to accomodate the screen shape. This wasn't really a big deal to me at the time, but I recently got my wife playing and we're hoping to get the game looking good so she enjoys it a bit more.

I tried to take screen shots to show you what I'm talking about, but the screenie wasn't all stretched out. It was perfectly square. If someone wants to see it, I'll actually have to take a photo of the screen I think.

Anyway, has anyone overcome this particular problem before? Heard of it? <Help me out!>

You can fix it a lil by going in the game and changin resolution to like 16:9 or the other option(can't remember) it should fix it...it'll stretch it and give galkas a tummy tuck and loose the love handles. or if all else fails...go with windows.

Thanks for the reply. Not sure what you mean by set the resolution to 16:9. If there were a 16:9 resolution, it would be very large indeed lol!

Isn't the only way to window this game with the Windower, which is bannable? If there is a legal way to window the game, I'd love to hear it because I was crushed when I found out that the Windower was against the ToS.

If you meant the windows OS, we're using Windows XP.

In one of the options in the in game menu, there is a button to change the display ratio to 16:9 (Widescreen ratio) as opposed to 4:3 (Standard ratio). That should do the trick. This isn't a resolution, just the ratio the resolution is set to.

This should be found in the same place as chat filters, default colors, and movement keys.

That got it! We found it optimal at 15:9, and its was called Background Aspect Ratio. Its located at Menu >> Config >> Misc 2.

yep. For future reference, I beleive this can be changed in FFXIconfig too (that old, poor, forgotten program)
