View Full Version : POL monthly fee - what does it look like in your bank report?
I'm asking this because, actually, I haven't checked my monthly bank report for a while now. But I'm doing so this month just to make sure that S-E doesn't charge me any further.
However, a few weird record shows up... and I don't really know what they are. Please help me identify them :worry:

Yea those are WoW charges, someone have your CC info? And it does seem like SE is still charging you. The easiest thing to do is call the bank and have them issue you a new card, that way they will not be able to charge your old one anymore, also they should credit you those charges if you didn't authorize them.

It does seem like someone has your CC info and is using it to pay their WoW account, also, if you downloaded the trial version and didn't cancel there's the chance that could have something to do with it.
About the POL charges the first two seem like what it says, fees for the other 2 transactions, however unless you bought another copy of the game then there's no reason for them to charge you at that time of the month.
Is anyone else using the same card to pay for their account? That could have something to do with it, also they could might be playing WoW behind your back which is the worst part (ZOMG!). :worry:
You can call your bank to prevent future charges, but you really need to know who is using your card and even cancel the card you have now and ask for a replacement, that's the safest way to prevent any more unwanted charges.

Are we going to see Jei (with someone else's voice coming out of him) on one of those identity theft commercials now?

The POL charges look like they were initiated on 2/1 but it took to the middle of the month for your bank to process them. It looks like payment for 2 accounts, but I don't know why the amounts would be different. International transaction fee is normal for outside-the-country purchases.
Maybe your account got canceled because there were payment problems due to the check card?
Definitely contact your bank if you've never initiated anything with Blizzard. If you signed up for a trial and just started getting charges, find out how to cancel your account with Blizzard.

Are you sure those were charges and not credits on 2/14/06 ? If they were charges, look for some credits somewhere around there for the larger amounts. At the beginning of the month, they billed you for the entire month of service. However, around 2/14 they banned you and closed your account, hence they should have credited a half a month or so back to you. However, if those are all charges and no credits showed up, then they're screwing you.
Regardless, even if that all checks out, someone appears to be using your card to play WoW.
What do you mean by credit showing up?

FFXI is a pay in advance service. The assumption when you were charged on 02/01 was that you would play the entire month of February. However, since you weren't able to play for 1/2 the month, they should have given you back half of the money you were charged. Does your daily balance in your account go up or down after those entries on 2/14?

Good catch, and it makes sense, since Jei got banned that isn't a charge but a reimbursement. However, that still doesn't explain why are there 2 movements.
Did you have 2 accounts Jei?

If I remember from his quit thread. He and his girlfriend have seperate accounts on the same card.

Why would they reimburse you if they banned you? They won't even prorate if you renew in the middle of the month, so I don't see why they would bother to reimburse someone they banned mid way through the month.

It may not have happened like that anyway. I was just giving one possibility. They don't have to do it, I don't think but I know a lot of companies that will prorate charges like that.
Pretty sure he could dispute the charges anyway if they did charge him for the full month. I doubt SE would follow through on the dispute quickly enough for the bank to deny it.

Because they are the ones calling off the deal, a banning isn't about they actually kicking you out but rather choosing to stop providing service for you.
...Maybe.

It's not a bad theory, but it doesn't sound much like the SE I'm used to dealing with. :p
That WoW account is confusing though. :/ I hope you can get that sorted out Jei.
This is why I'm glad I use a prepaid debit for my gaming, which is separate from my regular debit/credit cards. Just one more safeguard against this sort of thing.
I talked to my bank and they said I have to contact a seperate department to file a reverse. Those are charged directly of my card and the only way to stop is to change my card. That's what I was told. Anyway, I got my old card cancelled.

ugh... sorry man. file the dispute with the cardservices department or whatever they call it with your bank though. it may work out. especially the WoW shit since you didn't authorize those.

That does blow. May call SE and see what the deal is. I do know my charges dont usually show up until a week or two into the month.
On an unrelated note, I finally checked my charges and found I've apparently been paying for AOL for the last two years. Didn't realize I never actually cancelled it. Got a new card this month, though, so it should go away soon.

LOL, I had heard they were that bad. A friend had a free trial last for a year before they quit offering him more free months.

I think so, I've heard how bad it can be, and it looked like it was from Dateline or one of the other 900 news shows on NBC.

Mine from the EU comes up with
SQUARE ENIX PLAYONLINE SQUARE ENIX GB £9.69 (this is fee+1 extra content ID)
In saying that I have just had to cancel my CC due to some transaction my bank rejected as invalid CRC code i.e someone has my number but is trying to get the security code right, you can tell as they try and request payment for £1 to see if it works. As I internet bank, it shows up on my statement as an attempt. Incidently SE bill me on the 1st of each month.

Lol. Yeah it's real. It was big news for like a day. Was on NBC morning show. I wish had watched that whole youtube clip, but I had seen it a few times already. The first 10 seconds looked right. d:
AOL issued an apology and said the representative had been dealt with or some such. But, everyone knows that's standard practice for them.
It's amusing that you had to ask though.

I actually had to say 'cancel my account' over and over again with them before too.

I remember reading the top 100 biggest business screwups of all time. One of them was another AOL customer trying to cancel his service. The AOL representative was asking alot of questions like this, and then flatly told him that he would not cancel his account unless he answered every question.
I guess he didn't know that the guy trying to cancel his account was tape recording the conversation >.>
However that is why I would not deal with a company where I was not able to cancel the service myself. I shouldn't have to deal with crap when I want to cancel and I shouldn't have to get a new credit card because they won't stop billing me.
