Ive tried fraps before, anyone have a suggestion of a good and decent app (if it's free, the better) that allows you to edit the video as well?

Is your FFXI video source coming from PS2/Xbox360 or from PC?

I'm sorry, in this case I don't have prior experience.

If your video source comes from game console and connect its video to PC's TV card or capture card, or if your PC's video output to TV and record the game footage into DVD, then I may have some suggestion.

Why don't you capture it in fraps, and edit it in something else, like vegas, windows movie maker, etc...? The last thing you want is to be running a bloated ap WHILE playing a game AND recording video, that will very much hurt your performance.

Fraps is a very good program to capture footage with. It costs $30 for the full version but it is worth it.
