RL things that reminded you of FFXI...

You've all done it, I know you have. You've seen a street sign somewhere, or a tree. And your first reaction was to relate it somehow to something in-game.

This evening, after I got home from school, I decided to read the paper. On the first page, I saw this:

And what went through my mind was: "Of course, then the Paladin, then the White Mage, then the Black Mage if there is one, or the Dark ..." And that's when I caught myself. All I wanted to do was read the newspaper, but my seeming obsession for FFXI got in my way for a second. Good thing I didn't say anything out loud. :o

So this thread is devoted to things you've seen IRL that immediately made you think of FFXI. Pictures would be great if you have them. In fact, it might be fun to see how many of the rest of us see something FFXI related in your picture, as well.

In fact, I know of a few more around here, but my camera doesn't have any workng batteries right now. Lucky for you guys I had my scanner for this one, huh? :biggrin:

I don't have a picture of it, but a sign on I-4 reminds me of this game. Somewhere around exit 20 (I think) is a road called Alexander St. Every time I pass it, I think about FFXI.

But... Sometimes when I'm walking home from work, (its only a ten minute stroll down the road) I wish I could just warp to my "Home Point"... Which makes me think of all the times I'm in Al Zhabi, but too lazy to run to the next zone to the Auction House, so I cast Warp and walk there across the square from the HP Crystal in Whitegate...

Everytime I pick up my little step-sister from school I always pass by the skeleton that's right outside of the science class and I swear I can hear it laughing at me from all those days spent getting a papyrus...

Dang it all, when I was at the coast camping on the beach, my brother and I were remarking about how similar the dunes looked to...the Dunes.

I even found a crab apron out on the pier, amongst a lot of other dismembered crab limbs. I was going to drag it back to the dunes with me and have him take a pic for some goofing around, but the thing stunk like Davy Jones's anus.

The weird part was later when I found a real magicked skull too....

For me it's license plates. Something like PLD-016 just makes me think "Oh that poor guy, forever stuck in the Dunes".

The other two ffxi-in-real-life moments where both when kind of half asleep:

1.) Going to the fridge in the morning, not finding anything to eat and, briefly, wondering how I could switch to 3rd person view so I could scan the whole kitchen at once.

2.) Stepping out into a beautiful snow covered landscape and going "if only there was someway to preserve this image, like with a screen shot"....then remembering that, yes, cameras do in fact exist in this world.

There's a strip mall I pass on the road whenever I go to church. The name of the shopping center is something like "Lakshmi Square". If I wasn't on the Lakshmi server, it probably never would have stood out to me.

There is a company that has trucks that I see everyday and all that are on them is CN. Crawlers Nest is the first thing to pop in my mind no matter how many times I see it.

This next example reminds me of forums more than FFXI. I am too cheap to buy magazines when I fly, so I flip through the Skymall magazine. There is an ad for a dating service and the name of the service is ORLY.

Besides that, I am pretty busy at times and only come to the forums to take a quick break.

I don't really think of FFXI when I'm not playing it. One thing that did do this to me however was Pokemon. Back in the day, pokemon names had a way of actually replacing the words for animals. One day I was looking at some butterflies and it took me a couple of minutes to go "oh, they're called butterflies, not butterfrees"

XD! I did the same exact thing, lol...at one point, I kept thinking I needed energies(from the card game) to do stuff...and when I was tired, I didn't have enough on me...aiyaa that's sad now that I think about it.

As far as XI goes, any acronyms I see, I almost instantly relate it to FF, along with a beach with VD. Just random things and I go back to FF and relate it in someway...not so much anymore, but before it was like crazy. @_@

Oh, just thought of another one: the CD player in my truck has a "RDM" button on it. I know it means Random, but I always think Red Mage first.

So I'm drunk, logging on just to check my Delivery Box (not going to do anything that requires other people to deal with me whilst drunk). First thing I see anytime I log on is, of course, "Welcome to Pandemonium!"

Usually I don't even notice, but this time instead of reading it as "Welcome to your server!" I thought "Get ready Hantz, you just walked into a situation that is completely bat-shit insane!"

A few days ago when walking home and it was snowing, the way the wind was going actually sounded very familier to the wind sound on FFXI, and the snow reminded me of an area on FFXI as well. Kind of creepy, first time it's ever happened to me

I once saw a liscence plate that said L32 HUM and i did a <Found it!> Humar! and it was really awesome cause that very same night i hit level 32!:biggrin:
