I love play this job, nothing more is so enjoyable than just knowing that I keep weeker deffense base jobs safe by Enmity Control.

Live to the Last 1 HP is how i feel about this job. ( i even remember getting cure V a few times with that much life)

I have played PLD since 4 mounths after US PC release of the game. And there is no job that i have been able to play better than this one. I have stoped a few times to bring up my alternate character a few times in a few jobs. But i always go back to my PLD. I even took 6 mounth off recently to play EVE and WOW.

Ill tell you, there is no game out there that has a Tanking Job like this that i have played in my many days. This one plays like i think the Tank definition should be. Not only do you take the damage like a White Knight Chapmion you are, but you also can Make them do it.

After my abscence i come back and get to group up with some newer level 75 tanks. Some taru and some galka. I think some dont realize how much the job has been helped out in the past year since TOA has come out.

PLD got a second wind, ... and those patches ... man do they help. I now exp same as i used to with 1/2 my rutine with so much left over that i feel i should start striping away my harden Steal gear. I feel its now a waist walking around with +17 Emnity. ...

Can i get a shoutout from all you PLD tanks. Drink to that last point of life.

(p.s. wish me to get to level 75 soon, insteld of my next year in this game)

You know, that actually game me an interesting idea for a job trait... not that PLD needs any more buffings, but what if they got an "Endurance" trait that as long as they had 2+ HP, they wouldn't be KOed when they take enough damage to reach 0... Of course this could easily be abused with Regen, so something would have to be done to counteract that(Mabye when Endurace kicks in, Regen is null and void and has to be recast)

All I can say is, PLD has changed alot. That's very true.
Hope you get to 75 soon, so you can explore the finer points of being a PLD,
because there is so much more to it than blood-tanking, which seems to
be pretty much all you've tried to do with it.

with my time in the game, i have played several tactics to tanking with a few different job combinations. I am sure there is still tons for me do. I love VIT setup, even though it dose nothing for magic if i remember.
well ... another 6 hour night with one invite that lasted 20 mins till no RDM wanted to PT with an american group (even though they flagged English).
(this is why i got tierd, and i remind myself i do not want to give up) Day 2 ... and i have time away from work to play with the people who get on after school.

Tips?
level 72 ... zones party setups (need this info to make a party or people wont stay long enough in group)

Just make it so that it only works, say, 50% of the time. Then you're cheating death half the time, but the chance of dying is too high for anyone in the right mind to exploit by deliberately staying at 6 HP through Regen.

I'm not 72, yet. =b But, Campsitaru (http://monsters.ffxi-atlas.com/camps.php) may help out with camp descriptions.

To be fair here, blood tanking is what you will do with Paladin, at a *minumum* from 1 -> 73, and very very likely from 1 -> 75. So basically the entirety of your leveling career and possibly years of play time.

I can see what you're saying about Pld/Nin being the new "in thing" and how Pld's should be prepared for it once end game rolls around. Being locked in the "Pld/War Onry!" mindset is as wrong as any other inflexible mindset, but getting too focused on Endgame as the "Be All" of what players should be doing/focused on is just as bad.

Paladin has changed in a lot of good ways over the last year or so, but it's still pretty much the same job I've known and loved since I opened in in July '04 - just now we have some new toys, new tricks and a few new options for how we can play.

I 've played paladin about 2 years, and i'm right there with you that it's a Wonderful job to play if it fits your play style. Yea, pld/nin is also popular but it doesn't change the idea that you are the tank. Being the "tank" is a great thing to be cause in the end it's "you and the monster."

Pld/nin may not change the idea that you are the tank, but it definitely changes the reality. No amount of enmity achievable in the game will let a pld/nin keep hate off a merited ridill war who rampages for 1000+ in the first 5 seconds of a fight.

I'm not saying that it doesn't have its place, but the enmity loss needs to be carefully considered before trying to use it. Subbing war can slow your exp slightly. Subbing nin can get people killed.

Of course, most of the changes in pld have nothing to do with /nin. Shield upgrades, auto-refresh, shield mastery, improved sentinel and rampart... and that's not even counting merits or gear.

I've never lost hate against a HNM, as pld/nin.
Max haste, and the Sentinel update coupled with a few merits
is godly for holding hate. There's no need for Provoke.

It gets a little tougher to hold hate in a merit party, yeah,
but since everyone is doing "burn parties" anyways, nobody
needs to "tank" for more than 30 seconds either way.
Unless there's something fundamentally wrong with your party.

Not to be a party pooper but I feel like Paladin and Temple Knight from Lineage 2 are very similar to this game. Dark Avenger and Shillen Knight on the other hand, aren't great tanks but can easier hold hate with damage alone. Fighter's using High Guard stance in Granado Espada reminds me the ideal tank job as well without the the ability to self heal.

I -cannot- wait for the time when I have my Galka and my stats and MP just right before I start playing PLD full time.

When I do, watch out NINs.......................w

sorry for the delay, been away.

I hear ya all on the same points of views, even if they contradict the other. Good research Drive.

I finally got my level 74 and my Adaman set. Some one asked for my opinion, wanted to know if a +Shield Skill pld as tank was a good idea. My reply was yes, ... if your shield skill was caped. She replied to me "well ofcorse my shield is caped". I told her she was lucky, and she told me just about every PLD shield is capped. I think i need to find a way to skill up on my shield since im sitting at 240 (finally) because i was behind the curve before SE decided to make shields block more and stuff.

Any tips (going to scower the forms for shield skill up tips)

It's "Itaz" or "Itazura"... Not "Itz". -_-#

Anyway, happily leveling (slowly--my trademark) in a 6/6 static party, currently at Lv.59, I think. Got Terre (RDM), Valenia (BRD), Cypheron (SAM), Tamyaa (WHM), and Krouzer (BLU) in the group. We NEVER run out of healing power.

Eat meat, stay close to mob--makes running behind PLD easier? =b

And I too, miss them good old days. Back when I actually liked to play PLD heh. WAR kinda soured me on the tanking scene though <( ;. ; )>

Woot! Another person on Fenrir frequents these boards!

I've just beaten Maat on the 10th, so I haven't started exp'ing past 70, but I've given Company Sword a miss and will be using this....
