I've been killing time in Fei'yin this week, doing random skill up activities while leveling my NPC. My marksmanship has reached the point (skill level 158) where some Droma's no longer give me skill ups. I fought 4 level 54 Droma's in a row without single skill up (I was able to deduce their exact level by the amount of exp they gave me).
As I was doing some research to find the next skill up mob to move on to, I got to wondering about whether or not skill rating (in addition to current skill level) impacts whether or not a mob will give me skill ups.
At job level 50+, the skill cap difference between different skill ratings really becomes apparent. For instance, WAR marksmanship (D rated skill) cap at level 54 is 154 while a RNG has a cap of 173 at the same level. I assume that I stopped getting skill ups from level 54 mobs because my current skill exceeds the cap for my current job at that level. Would a RNG then be able to skill up all the way to 173 on those same mobs, because his rating is higher? Or would he still be hitting the same wall I'm hitting at the same skill level?
I've got a few combat skills that are around 100~120 range, most of them being B rated skills. When one of them gets close to the 150s, I think I'll see how high I can get them on the same exact mobs.
