Ok, so every other invite is for ToAU now, so i thought Id best order it.
After 3 weeks non-delivery from Amazon, i cancelled and re-ordered yesterday with another company and its here already!
Soooo, its installing now.
What should i be looking to do when Iv installed it? Basic maps? Tips? Exp zones?
I have heard of bits here and there but thought id check with the knowledgable crowd XD

Hahahaha....
My favorite part is how you posted so excited and then five minutes later reality hit.
Well the new nation is a large place to get accustomed to. Look up on FFXIClopedia which quests to do and stuff, because as far I can remember, a lot of missions and stuff is just running and talking to the right people and watching cutscenes and waiting for rl and Vana'diel days to pass.
First you'll need to actually get there though, so you'll need either:
A Coffer Key from anywhere
Any type of testimony
The three SJ items
Now that the game has been out for a year, you should be able to go to Valkurm and get the SJ items in about 30 minutes. But grats on the expansion!

The three SJ items
Small correction: It's acctually 6 SJ items. The 3 items from the quest in Selbina, and the 3 items for the quest in Mhaura (most people seem to not know about this one).
In any case, in order to get access to AU, you need to complete a quest for the Tenshodo (which means you need Tenshodo access as well). You are given 3 options of items to bring. The one I did (because of it's shear simplicity) was the 6 SJ items: Wild Rabbit Tail, Dhalmel Saliva, Bloody Robe, Magicked Skull, Damselfly Worm, and Crab Apron. Turn those in for your boarding pass to ride the boat from Mhaura to Whitegate. Alternatively, you can purchase the pass for 500k gil. Psh.
I know someone who doesn't even have CoP. I wanted to take her on the manaclipper, but it wouldn't let her pas Bibiki bay. >.>;

Congratulations!
First, as was previously mentionded, you need Tenshodo access. Secondly, you will need to either:
a) Farm 3 Exclusive Colored Chips from Pso'Xja - Cyan Chip, Grey Chip, etc.
b) Farm 3 Lv 2 Garrison items from the Beastmen Strongholds - The level 1 items like Seven-Knotted Quipus will nto work.
c) Turn in a Testimony. Ripped Testimonies from fighting Maat(win or lose) DO work.
d) Turn in the 6 subjob items.
e) Turn in the a Coffer key from a Beastmen stronghold.
And finally:
f) Pay the dude 500,000 gil and be thrown out of an airship only to land in the middle of Wajaom Woodlands.
Once you arrive in Aht Urgan Whitegate from the Mhurra boat(if you picked naything expect f), look around when you first get ff the boat. The NPC on your side of the custom stand sells seeds for growing chocobo food if you want to do this, as well as Raptor Mazurka if your a bard. Once you exit customs, directly ahead of you their should be a stand with a mithra in it that sells fish. To the right of her is the map dude.
Once you have the maps you can figure everything out of your own, but I suggest getting the first ToAU mission from Naja Salheem and getting all 6 of your Runic Portals, they are immensely useful for transport.

Thanks
Right, so I got to Al Zahbi, bought all the maps, and got access to mog locker, and upgraded it as well as enabling access anywhere.
Now what?
I have heard of Sanction or something like Signet, do I get that only when Im partying there?
Anything else I should look to get done asap?
PS The lag is really bad there!!
Thanks

You need to finish the first mission for Aht Urghan in order to be qualified to get sanction.
Also note. Do NOT set your homepoint in Al Zhabi, set it in Whitegate. If you do, you're going to get caught up in besieged and you won't be able to leave until it's finished. ( or if you're able to find a white mage that's willing to teleport you out. )
Also to note. Once you have enough imperial standing points ( from xping in the new area with sanction on ), use the pay warp tarutaru. The great thing that seperates him from the one in Al Zhabi is that he never gets captured, and if you use him long enough, he'll teleport you to your hometown. Say goodbye to airshiping to it.

SE removed the ability to set HP in Al'Zahbi shortly after ToA was released. Can't set HP there now even if you change jobs in the Residential Area of that zone.

Are you sure? I know that the mog house HP has been disabled, but I could've sworn a blm friend of mine set her homepoint at a crystal a couple of weeks ago.

There's no crystal in Al-Zahbi anymore. The only crystal is in Whitgate.

Yeah, no crystal.
Whitegate is the new Lower Jeuno, so it wil be pretty laggy. Once you compete the first ToAU mission and get your first Staging Point, you can get Sanction from the guards. Sanction is like a Super-Signet, but it only works in ToAU areas. When the Astral Candesence is in Al Zhabi(i.e., the beastmen haven't stolen it in Besieged) their will be an option to pay 100 Imperial Standing(Sanction's Conquest Points) to gain Auto-Regen, Auto-Refresh, or Double Food Duration.
Aht Urgan also has a Ranking system, similar to the three nations on the mainland. The higher your rank, the longer Signet lasts. Unlike the Nation's ranks, you do not gain ranks by doing ToAU missions. Instead, for every 25 "Victory Points" you obtain(you get 5 for winning an assault the first time, 1 from that same assault thencefourth. If you win say, Excavation Duty, you'll get 5 points, win Golden Salvage, get 5 points, Excavation again, only get 1) Naja Salheem will give you a quest. Complete the quest to become promoted. Aht Urgan uses a Military system for ranks, so instead fo going Rank 1 -> Rank 2 -> Rank 3 you go Private -> Corporal -> Seargent(Keep in mind their are tiers,s o rank 1i s PRivate Seconds Class, rank 3 is Superior Private, then 4 is Lance Corporal, etc.)

Oo can I solo Assualts? Or is it a group thing?
Murphie

It's a group thing, for the most part. I know that Summoners (I think) can solo Golden Salvage, but it's generally meant to be tackled as a team.

Nope, Assault is kinda like a BCNM and a mission combined into one. Some are super short and easy and others much harder. They can be done in groups of 3 or 6 I believe (I've only done a couple) but if you do complete them with less people you get more assault points per person.

Although Golden Salvage can be soloed, you have to have at least 3 ppl to enter the assault.
There are a lot of quests you can do just within the city. Check them out. You can get a few cool pieces of equip for little effort.

Yeah, I forgot about the entry bit. There is still plenty to do in TOAU solo. And as a RDM, you can generally get around to do the things (like get Staging Points) you need to do by yourself.

Do inner city quests count towards rank also?
Murphie
02-16-2007, 11:22 AM
I don't believe so. Some give ok rewards though, so they are worth doing. The only way to raise your rank is via Assualt? I...think. Don't quote me on that.

I'll quote you on that though  - and you are correct.

I'm still a Private Second Class, so I'm a bit spotty on all of that. But good to know I was right! :D

I would recommend getting the first couple of missions done. You'll have to make a delivery to an NPC at one of the staging points. The easiest is outside of Nashmau in Caederva Mire. Once you talk to the NPC and deliver the key item, you can warp right back to town. This will give you access to a Mog Locker which really helps with storage.
