Well I have a dilemma. I left Gustav Tunnel when I dinged 49, and I've tried both Onzozo and crawlers nest - both are absolute hell for my level. CN I kno I am kinda there 1 level early but Onzozo I just plain hate...those damn cockatrices take way to long to kill and its just plain way to dangerous there otherwise. Any suggestions where to go. I know at 50 a new world opens up to me - its just getting there. Should I just suck it up and kill DC's to 50 or is there some spot I am missing.

45-52: Gustav Tunnel
PETS: Hell Bats [44-48], Hawkers [45-48], Labyrinth Leeches [45-48], Greater Gaylas [46-49], Labyrinth Lizards [46-49]
PREY: Hawkers [45-48], Goblins [Reapers, Poachers, Robbers] [46-49], Labyrinth Lizards [46-49], Makara [46-49], Goblin Pets [Pets of Goblin Shepherds] [~55?]
NOTES:
45, Use Hell Bats, Hawkers, and Labyrinth Leeches vs. Goblins.
46-49, Use same pets plus Greater Gaylas and Labyringth Leeches vs. Goblin Shepherd Pets, Goblins, Hawkers, Makaras, and Lizards. Pull Goblin pet when goblin not looking, as pet weak for con strength. Use lizards against Makaras, Makara aggro but don't link.
50-52, Goblin pets. Camp in extension to high level area of tunnel, near Teriggan zone. Make sure goblin facing away from his pet before engaging it.
Killing the gob pets is amazing exp and relatively simple once you get the timing and strategy down. However, normal exp pt's will show up from time to time and they will (usually) not care if you are exping on the gob pets and your exp may come to a screeching halt. You may also have pt's show up to try and force-pop the NM Wyvernpoacher Drachlox (drops Othinus' Bow) that is a lottery spawn NM among the gobs, and those trying to farm a specific testimony for LB5."

[edit]47-50: Labyrinth of Onzozo
PETS: Labyrinth Leeches [45-48]
PREY: Goblins [46-49], Cockatrice [50-53], Mushussu [51-57]
NOTES: Camp in the tunnel just before the first open cockatrice/scorp room. Charm leeches and pull mobs back to the tunnel. The roaming range of the leeches is pretty large, so they don't despawn if they are released in the tunnel.

[edit]48-49: Crawlers' Nest
PETS: Doom Scorpion [45-47], Soldier Crawlers [47-49]
PREY: Soldier Crawlers [47-49], Witch Hazel [50-52], Exoray [51-54]
NOTES: Head towards at the (I-9) intersection on the second map. Use the DC Scorpion at (I-10) and DC/EM Crawlers in the corridors against EM/T Crawlers and the occasional wandering Witch Hazel at (H-9); this region is typically devoid of parties so mobs should be plentiful. Sometimes a lone Exoray can be found at (H-9) as well, helpful for BSTs looking to collect Exoray Mold for In Defiant Challenge. Use Sneak/Silent Oils (or Charm+Leave and Tame) to slip past Crawlers as needed.

[edit]48-50: Western Altepa Desert
PETS: Desert Beetles [47-51]
PREY: Antican Eques [45-49], Antican Retiarius [45-49], Desert Beetles [47-51]
NOTES: Head out to Revelation Rock at (G-7)/(H-7) and do laps, charming DC/EM Beetles and using them against EM/T Anticans and EM/T Beetles. There are usually enough Beetles to sustain a few beastmasters and/or parties simultaneously. Beware of the Desert Worms that spawn at night; they are no match for Beetles but can still be a nuisance, as they aggro to sound and can cast Bind.

[edit]49-54: Lufaise Meadows
PETS: [Leshachikha] (sapling)[49-53]
PREY: [Leshy] (treant)[52-54]
NOTES: Camp @ G-6. Treant and saplings do not aggro. Leshy do not link but Leshachikha will link to a Leshy. A camp of partied Fomors spawn at night around the campfire. Do not engage under all costs since they will fight you in a party. Lightning Elles spawn occasionally. You can see the Bahamut dragon thing flying through the sky at 14:00.

O damn - I forgot about the Gob pets in Gustav.

Crawlers nest kinda sucked both times i was there either DC or T so it was kind of a pain - I'll wait to 50 for there again.

Onzozo = <No Thanks>

Western Altepa: slow xp but grindable.

Lufaise Meadows: Hmmm. I think this is where I will head next, looks very interesting. Is this camp hard to get to from the vortex?

At 49, I was in a bind myself. I didn't want to do Gob pets in Gustav. All it takes is one exp pt down there killing Gobs and Crabs to wipe out my exp mobs altogether. I wound up doing Beetle vs Beetle at Revelation Rock in West Altepa. It was slow, and it could get really frustrating with random NPC levelers showing up.

At 50, I moved on to Labyrinth Lizards in Crawler's Nest. Since those Lizards are level 49 to 51, I think I could've started Lizard vs Lizard right at 49. You might want to give that a try.

where do they spawn, I know they aren't the ones in the room where you first drop down - they're all EP to me at this point.

Where do you find Labyrinth Lizards?

For refernce (and in case you haven't gotten the map for Crawler's Nest), you can use the map at ffxi-atlas.com (http://www.ffxi-atlas.com/maps/crawlers_nest/general/).

First, travel to the "Ball Room" (the place where you drop down, and it has Maze Lizards). Look for a path in the NW corner of that room. You'll see two paths there -- one which leads North, and one which leads West / NW. Take the one that leads you to the West / NW. This is the path the eventually leads you to point "A" on the first map.

Once you are on the 2nd map, and the path turns to the North, just keep heading North. Eventually, you'll pass a whole bunch of Soldier Crawlers before you get to another drop down @ (I-8). Below the drop down is where you'll find a bunch of Labyrinth Lizards. There's a tunnel to the North of that room, with two saplings (which are level 50-52), which leads to yet another room full of Labyrinth Lizards.

Make sure you have plenty of empty space in your pack when you go this camp. These lizards drop eggs, tails and skins like crazy.

Lufaise meadows is a great levelling spot - no parties, no nothing!!!

Take the vortex from the dunes and run into tavnazia. Take the northern exit back out to lufaise and go past the OP - on the map you'll see an area ahead with 2 entrances (G-6 area) - use either entrance as camp. Saplings WILL link to a treant (they have different names here, but you'll know what I mean) so be careful on that. Other than that, its some good, fast exp - enjoy!

I found em - I knew about the maze lizards, never had to go to the other area (towards "other" exit to Rolanberry fields) so did ok on the Lizzys there - everything...and I mean everything aggros there tho lol.

I am gonna go try this place tonight and see which is better, I have the feeling I'm gonna like Lufaise better - I don't like being "trapped" in underground tunnels alone much...

ok update: Lufuase Meadows is a good camp, best I've been to and kinda safe. Only trouble I had was alot of T to VT pets and prey, very few EM so had to convert a few.

Those damn walking trees do hit hard tho, was going thru 2 EM sapling pets for each T, didn't even bother trying VT due to lack of EM pets. Even with 2 pets beating on him I still had about 60% health left after I engaged and finally killing it...

Just wanted to add something about the Gob Shepard leech Pets in Gustav:

They're soft on the HP, but they hit you like a truck. I'd avoid meleeing alongside your pet this time around and just let the pet kill it, don't even release to deal the deathblow, you should get 189-200 EXP each, 220 or 245 if you chain.

Its a gamble, but I got like 4k EXP off it so far tonight.
