I used to own and play FFXI but i canceled my subscription and need to buy the game again with all of the expansion packs, i found a bundle of em for like 30 dollars so i was kind of psyched about it, until i realized that i might not be able play it. I play on my laptop at school and it is fairly new and i know i have enough ram and a big enough hard drive but this computer has a Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family for a video card, will it run FFXI?

Probably not, onboard video generally is rather naff. But if you'd like to find out then download one of the FFXI benchmark programs and see if they run.

Not really, best thing to do is download the vanadiel benchmark II from the main playonline site. run it and see what it says. if it says you can run it, it will be at the lowest resolution and you may have to turn off alot like shadows, footsteps, weather, bump mapping etc etc. and it will look pixelated.

On a side note, you should be doing schoolwork at school not playing games *wags his finger*

I generally play on my xbox, but I have my mule account set up on my laptop and use my laptop when I want to Fraps something, I have a:

Mobile Intel 915GM/GM5, 910GML Express Chipset Family

Which I suppose is similar to yours, I'm not all that tech savy, but looks similar to me >.>

Mine runs ok on the mid settings without turning much off, Frames per second and all that looks decent when I fraps (not great like my friend who does video editing off ffxi footage, but still better than most YouTube vids I see). I run the middle options on most everything, but it can run on the high if I'm out of the towns and Soloing a mob, minimizing lag in general.

I would guess that 945GM would be better than my 915GM but I don't really know how they number these things, so if you can confirm that that is true, then you should be able to run the game ok. I like to occasionally take my laptop to work and craft and stuff, but had to get a xbox controller for my laptop since I can't seem to get comfortable with the keyboard setup. I learned on xbox so I pretty much just stick with what I know.

I've dualboxed people through missions and what not when they couldn't make a scheduled event, and have noticed no real drawbacks over game looks, I'm comparing to xbox graphics, I havn't bothered loading the game on my higher end gameing machines yet, so can't tell you in comparision to gamer type machine.

Hope that helped some, onboard will indeed run the game alright, but maybe not what you are use to if you played on a higher speced machine before.

According to this page (http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intel945gm/sb/CS-021400.htm) from Intel on your gpu, FFXI should run. That does not mean, however, in any way, that it will run "good" or be comparable to that of the Xbox version or a high-end machine.
