After this quarter is over I plan on raising another chocobo so that I can use it as a mount once it retires. I'd really like a black, or maybe a red chocobo. Is there anyway to kind of influence what color it is? Or is there anyway to influence gender?

For color, try to find parents that have the color you want. Only 1 will do, but better chance if both have the color.

Gender, the honeymoon plan have some options that increase chance to get male/female. But not very reliable imo.

Just buy two cards of the same color. Or if you're up in the air, buy one of each and see what random thing pops out. If it comes up yellow, though.... It wasn't my fault ;)

Also... try to make sure they're either first generation or purebred colored chocobos. I'm not currently aware of the mechanics of color, so it's possible that cross-color breeds could harbor undesirable recessive colors.

Breeding 2 black chocobos does not guarantee that the offspring will be black.

I bred Nukapai's FireClaw (Mother/Black) with Ayrlie's DoreAvenger (Father/Black) and the Offspring turned Day 19 last night and has White Tailfeathers so it will be a Yellow Chocobo.

Both the parents post on this site and we know they are black chocobos, both with a Yellow Parent and a Black Parent. SO, .... however the colors work it goes back at least to Grandparent Generation or just has a random/luck element.

 Need to try again with different Black Chocos.

Well, as luck would have it one of the members in my LS has a black male chocobo. We just merged with another LS and one of their members has a black female chocobo!

I'll try giving them the big mithra eyes and see if I can get an egg off of them :D

This doesn't even matter now. All of the rarity and interest in chocobo color genetics is now completely washed away in a sea of chocobo dye.

But how does one obtain the dyes?

Nobody knows anything about how to obtain the dyes yet.
I for one I not happy with their inclusion in the game however. I worked hard to breed and raise a blue chocobo. As anyone who raises chocos knows, it takes alot of work and alittle luck to get a colored chocobo with abilities and great stats. These dyes are a slap in the face to those of us who worked hard to raise them. All I can hope for is that the dyes are extremely expensive, rare, or have a limited or short duration.

WOA WHAT?!?! you have to buy dye now to get a color chocobo!?!? O.OI don't believe so. But they did introduce dyes in the last update, so you may be able to obtain a colored chocobo without having to breed one. But you can still obtain one the regular way.
