Currently I am a 69 BLM and I still don't have my Moldavite Earring. Not for lack of trying mind you, if you have seen some of my other posts you will know I have an absurd number of claims & kills but no drop so far. With the maitnence today I have logged out in Onzozo near his spawn, and I think it it safe to say the goblins and cockatrice won't aggro me anymore. Nonetheless, I kow the goblins link, and as this is my first time soloing I don't really know what I should do. My first idea was to pull him away from his goblin buddies and fight fim like the Pulling the Strings manequin, and I even brought juices and ethers and even an elixer I had lying around.

This is my first time attempting to solo him and any advice would be greatly appriciated.

Any ideas at all?

I don't recommend it really D:
1. He can't be stunned.... and he cast AMs
2. He's hard to silence.
3. I'm not sure if he can be slept...
4. VERY HIGH magic resistance.

I'll be practical. At 69, unless you're any other race other than tarutaru, you're more than likely not going to win. You're going to be competing with other people. (as much as 10 people) just to claim him, and I don't think you're going to wait for him to be in the right position, just so that you won't get a link. It's not going to happen. Trust me, it's not fun dealing with goblin links. (sleepga works, but when it wears off and you're in the middle of casting a tier 4 spell, stuff starts to hit the fan)

Moreover, the NM is highly resistant to magic. Granted you've brought medicines to replenish your mp supply, but there's a large delay after you've used them. Your best bet is to find a higher level buddy to help you out. It's just not practical trying this then getting frustrated because you've died when he was at 5% health.

Plus, as Jei said, he can't be silenced or stunned.....

I had a bitch of a time trying to silence him as RDM, so yeah. Not fun. And links are pretty much death if you're solo.

It's a bit different with rdm. I watched a level 70 rdm/nin solo him no problem. Granted it her awhile to kill him, but it's a lot more efficient than trying to solo him as blm/xxx

Why couldn't a BLM with decent level in one of their weapon choices melee him down?

BLMs have a natural Enhancing Magic skill, so their Stoneskins won't be a complete waste of MP, get yourself a Scythe, Club, or Staff and beat away at it. Took me 13 times before I finally got my earring, and I went as RDM70. I actually cap'd my Enhancing Magic while camping him. (Took me two months.) I used a Hornetneedle, kept Ice Spikes up to make sure he was always Paralyzed, and just beat away. It took me a while to do it, but I only had one instance where I came close to death.

I never once was able to Silence him, so I just gave up. And considering RDMs have Magic DEF Bonus, I just kept Stoneskin and Phalanx up and the bastard never once got a AM to break my Stoneskin.

Now I know RDM soloing is much different than BLM soloing, but I saw other BLMs who solo'd it by melee with some spells mixed in.

If you have your favorite weapon up to Lv.150 or more, I think you can solo him.

Well, it's a lot safer, if nothing else. But not really any more efficient. Still, links are a huge problem, and if the fight takes too long, you'll find yourself in danger of getting one.

I prefer to duo at a minimum, even as a RDM.

Onionsoldier - It's certainly doable. I don't mean to be negative or anything. If you can get the claim, and you don't have too many adds, you certainly can give it a shot. But at 69, you're going to be pushing your luck.

I thought about soloing him at around 68, myself. I knew that with no sleeping, no stunning, and next to no silencing, that it would be hard to do. I ended up getting help from a WHM75/NIN37 friend.

If you have a high level NPC buddy, I'd imagine that he/she could tank him. If not, bring him/her along as Soothing Healer at the least.

Bringing your NPC buddy would probably help w/ this fight. However, you're probably better off bringing a THF buddy, as this drop is a pain in the ass to get >.>.

Still after it myself, I'm deffinatly gonna need this for the Maat fight @ 70, so I guess I'd better get busy camping this guy more...

WOOT! Camped this last night w/ a 75 RDM and 75 THF (friends of mine). The RDM got claim out of 20+ ppl, we killed it, earing dropped, and I rolled a 937 against the THFs 200ish. XD.

Results: 1/3 on claim, 1/1 on drop :).

If you know any high level NIN or WAR's, ask for some help. This guy is a pansy to them.

IMO claiming the NM is the most difficult part of getting the earring, fight wise, guy is a friggen pansy.

Solo'd as a 62 rdm (Dot's ftw) and didnt have any issues, slapped some dot's and ran for zone, making sure to dodge aggro from nearby mobs, he hits like a pansy, I think i was getting hit for 40ish damage melee, and any big spells you can run out of range, or if your quick, cast the proper bar-spell.

Can also be duo'd with two lower level blm's 55-60+ range, alot more difficult, but it can be done. Though of course, as everyone else has said, any HL melee with rip him a new one w/o much difficulty.

Best of luck to you

I recently soloed him as 75 whm, so any high level job can kill him. I ended up with 3 links, and the NM. Ate a burst between shadows and stoneskin. Over all a pretty easy mob. Camped him twice, got drop on second kill.

I always went during the week when fewer people were there. First time I was outclaimed by 1 other person there, but doesn't seem heavily camped on week nights.

@ . @ I hate this guy.

Just tried getting the earring for my Taru BLM (46) and we got the 1st claim np. My 75 RDM buddy soloed it pretty easily but no drop. At least I got a Thundaga III out of it though.

2nd claim we lost to the other RDM there, who somehow beat out my friend even though they were both casting dia and my buddy started casting first. His dia usually pops off @70%, and when it got to 100% it said the mob was claimed.

WTF?

On mystic i personally recommend getting a thf to go along. I quit blm a while ago and dropped earring. I killed the guy like 5 times no drop so i switched to my 57 thf had a friend kill and walked away happy.
