This is gonna sound kinda farfetched but here it goes.

Would it be possible to create or introduce a party "super" skillchain or 2hr?

I was watching Advent Children for the 100th time and one of my favorite parts is when Cloud defeats Bahamut thanks to the boost he recieved from his friends.

XI is very heavily based on parties and relying on others to acomplish things, yet the options to complement other party members are very limited (SC + MB doesn't really reflect what I'm talking about).

I just thought about this so don't have much idea about how it could be implemented but maybe...

Maybe the ability to sacrifice everyone's 2hr and combine them so one player had a super unit effect for 1 minute (the special effects would depend on the jobs in the party).

Or maybe a separate ability that could be stacked with others and that would add the ability to create a lvl4 skillchain that would do massive damage, which would not only allow for massive SC damage but also massive MB damage (maybe a 24HR cooldown ability).

I wont talk about balance issues because it would depend on how this was implemented,
but one of the requisites has to be that everyone in the party participates in it regarless of their job.

It would be nice seeing something like this in game.

This sounds a lot like the Quickenings from Final Fantasy 12. :P

I don't like the concept much though - there's enough abuse of quick-damage things in this game. Giving players another cheesy method to defeat otherwise balanced battles isn't a good move IMO.

Cloud didn't need their crappy boost. he can fly just like Sephiroth, remember the reunion in Northern Crater?

I'm on the fence about the idea though.

I'm more keen on the idea of "2 hour synergy." I guess a good example of this could be Benediction + Invincible. SMN + Samurai is plausible, but very hard to coordinate (Astral Flow MB off of Meikyo Shisui SCs) and not much return when any ol' SC (or BLU, damn them) would be easier... yeah, that kind of thing.

Most tough battles (I'm thinking CoP and stuff like that) revolve around the proper use of 2HR abilities, this party based attack would be very powerful, but that doesn't necesarily mean it would end the fight. So the party would have to decide if spending all their 2HR is worth it for a particular fight.

Also this kind of movements are always limited by certain conditions like red HP and stuff like that in other games so it could be necessary to fulfill certain requisites before being able to use it.

I'm on the fence about the idea though.

He needed their help because he had the Geostigma on him, so he was much weaker than usual.

But even so FF has always been about the main character and his friends and how not even the most powerful soldier can do everything by himself, I've always liked that aspect of FF.

It could work that way, that if you use 2 HR attacks in succession you could get added effects to it.

For instance if you MB'd a Meikyo Shisui skillchain maybe both the window for MB and Astral Flow's time would be extended by 5-10 seconds giving you a better chance to MB a second time with a little boost in damage.

Stuff like that could work.

I'm all for the concept, but the way the player base is at the moment, this seems good only on paper. A twist on the idea could make it work like Rikku's mix by the linking party members use a "Chain Esence" item obtainable easily, repeatable ex stack able with no nm or gil involved in getting it. Following the use of the second member the two hours link onto the first for their added effects to combine. But then again, what could result with this in the end game life?
