Hello Hades, i've decided to pick up FFXI as my new MMORPG i've played a few and always wanted to give this a shot. So far so good, although i'd like to see more. And maybe someone could tell me why the auction house prices are so crazy.. I mean I can buy the same items cheaper at an NPC's store! Oh well. I play a taru taru black mage and i'm looking for some people to play with, send me a tell in game and say hello if you're looking for a new person to game with.

I'm on Fairy, and ah prices are always higher then NPC prices. I consider it a convenience tax...a lot of peeps would rather drop some extra gil to get the items they're looking for immediately without all the running around to buy them from NPC's, farming them, or god-forbid crafting them (sorry, just got into crafting and omg it's a drag sometimes).

If you play it well, you can make some decent money on the ah doing nothing but selling the items you buy from NPC's. There are exceptions to the rule, of course, but experiment and you'll find what works for you...

Anyways, welcome to Vana'Diel and good luck! ^^

Hey man welcome to FFXI... and you know those of us who are smart do buy from NPC shops! (just saying that b/c i just started lvling samurai and just bought lvl 7 armor their) although in some cases it is a lot easier to buy from AH. But def not at low levels when u need all the gil u can get. I'm on Hades too and starting a low lvl job now so give me a /tell and we can party some time or something. Also I have a high lvl job so i can help you with pretty much anything u need for a while! What time do u usually play? also just a hint. When i was just starting out I would buy armor and other things from the NPC's and sell it at the AH to make gil. Not a massive profit but will help u get started.

Yes, very often new players gravitate to the Auction House without realizing there are NPC shops - I know I did. Therefore they end up speding the inflated price. Welcome to Hades, feel free to look me up! :)
