Christmas is coming and New Year is just around the corner and many of us older players who can legally drink may have one or two tipples before we log on.

Only last night I was partying with my monk is Yhoahter Jungle and an over zealous (and he admitted it) drunk theif decided that the mandy was not good enough to attack and ended up bringing a white lizzard and a goblin smithy along to join the party, we wipped obviously (we were all around lvl 28 and too far from zone) The theif was duely kicked and blisted.

So...

Come on lets get some people admitting it, How many of you have played while not extactly sober.

How many of you have casued problems in a party due to be a bit worse for wear.

And how many of you have been in a party where a character or 2 is noticably not doing their job due to the controller being intoxicated?

Any funny stories would be welcomed :biggrin:

I admit, I have played the game while intoxicated many times. However, I do not cause any problems for my party and sometimes I seem to focus more on the task at hand. It's like when you drink until your good at bowling or pool. I would never do something stupid to cause the party to wipe just because I was tipsy.

The only time I really show that I am drunk is when I am talking in the LS or sometimes in the party chat (if I am getting along with everyone). You can sometimes tell that I am drunk from my choice of words but never by my actions.

The only funny thing that I can remember is that one time my LS leader was smashed and every sentence she typed was full of spelling errors. Even when she tried to correct herself those were full of errors too. It was like this until she informed us that she had to go lay down.

Yes, but only once or twice, and I never xp'd drunk. I don't really ever get drunk, so if I do drink and play, at most I get a slight buzz. And this game really isn't mentally taxing enough for that to make any difference at all.
The one time I did get absolutely hammered I just got on for a few minutes and talked to the ls. Didn't even remember it though, they had to tell me the next day.

Depending on what job I'm doing I find I can do just as well as I could sober. I usually try to not Exp on my PLD unless I'm completely sober and focused, as I find it quite difficult to judge hate when I'm all tipsy.

In the very least, if I find my intoxication is starting to become a noticable problem/slow-down for the party, I generally try to find a replacement; and then go do something else that is equally as challenging, yet harms no one but myself (like fishing ;) ).

Yep, I've done it, and I'll do it again.

The sad thing is, I've played this game for so damned long now (this February it'll be 4 years) that it's practically second nature to me by now. So I don't really make very many more mistakes when I'm under the influence than I do when I'm not, except for spelling errors.

Now, getting into a PT in the late evening and staying well past I should have gone to bed is another story. I've caused plenty of problems falling asleep on people. Just a few weeks ago I was in a TP burn in Uleguerand Range and I fell asleep, which ultimately caused the entire PT to wipe, since I was, for all intents and purposes, the only healer. Granted, if the BRD had been a little less insane and had pulled one thing at a time instead of 4, they probably would have lived long enough to figure out that I'd fallen asleep. But that's neither here nor there. Fortunately it was all people I knew from various linkshells, so apart from laughing their asses off at me, nobody was really angry.

In conclusion, I think playing FFXI while drowsy is generally more dangerous to others than playing while intoxicated. DRINK UP! ;)

Ironically our LS sets high standards for player conduct but I would generally consider it primarily social LS, plus little kittens should not be playing FFXi at 1 a.m. anyways.^^;

The best was when one of my fellow officers in my ls (a blm) was drunk during dynamis.

Got a good tequila buzz going and stayed up way too late. Logged in next day and 3 of my caracters were missing about a half a mil gil each. Seems I got in the shopping mood while I was practically unconcious and bought leaping boots, rabbit charm and kingdom Aketon. Turned out that the prices were pretty good and I could use the items but I had to run 4 Aspir quests the next week to rebuild my gil supply. At least buzz shopping is better than buzz fighting !

Ok it wasn't my friend and I dunno if the choco driver was drunk... but the poor guy was running away from a mob and bumped nto the choco, so the mob catched up and killed him. :wasted:


That being said. I've kicked drunk players because of how bad they play, worst part is the "oh ya I'm cool because I'm playing drunk even though that sends the party to hell" attitude so I just kick em. :biggrin:

But if they say they are drunk but play properly I could care less if they are high too and smoking 10 cigs at the same time. :thumbsup:

I work part time as a fire fighter along with my architects job, I'm on call 24/7 so have to be sober except for my holidays. I decided after 3 years of this to make it permenant, I am more healthy, saved some money, lost some weight and now being sober it doesn't bother me.

A friend of mine is alergic to alcohol, gave him a bit of my mums xmas cake about 10 years ago, not knowing his condition. after one bite, he complained his mouth was burning, then passed out. He woke up 3 hours later in hospital. Anything I buy for him i now have to check labels, poor guy, his is not by choice.

I get the O my god I don't know how you do it from people, I then describe in gory details the one drunk driver I cut out of a car, he had to have his leg amputated, the car he hit had a full family of 4, 2+2, the father (driving) survived, he lost both his kids and wife though due to the drunk driver. Its the worst thing in my job I have to do, removing kids bodies and one I wish I never have to do again. People tend not to say anything on the subject after.

I've played drunk before, but I've never joined a party. Usually it's just to chat with my ls while doing some menial task like leveling summoning magic or crafting, something that I can't really screw up.

Ls chat can be quite hilarious when you've had a few.

I sometimes will have a beer or two while partying to calm my nerves, especially if it's a BCNM or a mission or something, that music while fighting is kind of nervewracking so the beer calms me down. Other than that, I don't usually MMOWI. (MMO= c'mon, you know this, W= while, I= intoxicated).

I marked down as I can't drink but it's more of a choice. I follow the "Straight Edge" Lifestyle and part of it is "No drugs, Don't smoke, Don't drink" and thus I don't drink alcohol.

It's kind of weird how many people cannot play in a party when they are intoxicated. I play as a Paladin, a very technical job and I can still do that fine. Granted, if I am in a drunken stooper and I am falling down the whole time I will not party. But I get pretty drunk as I am playing (sometimes) and I tell you I don't screw up. If I do screw up it wouldn't be anymore then I usually do when I am sober (which is still not often).

I play drunk quite often. For whatever reason, I do better while performing certain tasks drunk. I've mastered the art of drunken typing, so nobody ever knows when it happens unless they talk to me. I tend to ramble alot when drunk and talk about random subjects that have nothing to do with what I'm doing (tanking for example). By the way, I'm an underage alcoholic. :D

Some people do not know how to behave when under the influence of alcohol. This is a prime example. I would like to see if these same people would spout off remarks that were mentioned above, in real life. Lots of people are really brave and are badasses when they are behind a keyboard.

I generally act the same way in game that I do in real life. The only real difference is that it hard to convey my sarcasm with typed words.

If drinking only makes you happy, then you need to look at how to sort out the issues that are making you unhappy. I beleive in the Us the schools have counsellors, I would go and see one and let it off your chest whats making you drink to be happy. You need to deal with this now, as later in life it will cause you more problems, more grief and may even take your life.

You go to a bar and see a drunk bloke, smelling, violent, no women wants to be near him, he staggers out, swears at peopel and attracts the attention of the police. he spends numerous nights in the cells as he can't stop himself doing it. One day you could end up being like that, you have a chance to stop that by acting now.

I like to play FFXI while drunk and/or under other influences. I find it very relaxing to knock back a few beers or light up and go do some menial task like farming or crafting (or rearranging my MH - I can do that for an hour while drunk -_-; ). I really enjoy the game that way, and almost get into an RPing mode.

I stay away from partying (or doing anything that other people might have to rely on me) until I am sober. I had a bad experience trying to party on my WHM while intoxicated- I didn't mess up or party wipe, but the stress and the intensity of being main heal in the dunes, added to my intoxication, made me break out in a cold sweat and my vision started to blur. I started feeling very ill, and I had to leave the party immediately.

I've never been in an exp party with someone who is obviously drunk, but there are certain people on one of my social LSes that always seem hammered. They tend to just be attention whores and spam LS chat, nothing harmful but kinda annoying after a while.

~1 drink for every af drop
~1 drink if you receive an af drop

~1 drink every time someone complains about af drop rate (2 if you complained)
~1 drink every time the puller says "big pull"
~1 drink every time someone dies (2 if you died)

~Finish your drink if we wipe

I've both tanked and played BLM drunk before. Only time I've ever died while xp'n (or let others die) was the one time I was on BLM... Tank was meh and I kinda got bored hitting my macro ever so often.

But usually my LS can tell if I had been drinking because I'll start talking alot. I almost never talk in LS even tho it is a social I 'lead". (Firm believer in letting social only LS's pretty much lead themselves)

Excellent advice. However, school guidance counselors are retarded and don't give a shit about any of their students. When I was 11, I decided to tell my counselor about the child abuse that was going on in my home. He told me I deserved it and asked me to leave. I told him not only about what was happening to me, but what was happening to my older sister. I believe that I did deserve what I got, or at least most of it, but she didn't. Nobody deserves rape. Even after that, he just told me to get out.

I've talked to many different counselors, psychologists, etc. and they all just sit there and look at me from behind their desks. I spent 1 day a week with a guy named Doug, and you know what he got paid to do? Sit there and play Solitaire while I stared out a window. Real fuckin professional there. Excuse my foul language.

My issues could have easily been solved had someone stopped and listened to me for 5 minutes. But nobody did, and now I sit up at night in the dark, knocking back a bottle of Vodka so I can sleep without dreaming. It's a wonderful world we live in. Anyway, enough of my pointless ranting. This is a happy thread, isn't it?

I've played drunk a few times. Normally after special occasions or parties, which isn't to often for me. Most of the time I would just log in and chat with the LS or help them out with some lower level quest and coffer tanking or something, but I do warn them ahead of time about my condition.

Though I did Exp drunk once. I was the puller and we were pulling raptors, and if any puller that have pulled raptors before, you know how fast those SOBs are, and as a Sam also! Some how some way I nevered died and we had an awsome exp session. Granted I'll always return with less than half my life left, but tha Pld thanked me cause he cured me and that helped him get extra hate at the start :) So it wasn't all that bad ^^

I smoke while I'm mining, crafting, muling, etc. I tried smoking once during an XP party and it didn't go too good...we didn't wipe but I kept voking off the nin accidently because I kept screwing up my macros. After a little while of that, I found a replacement and excused myself...

But when I'm not doing anything important, I'm prolly stoned. My ls can usually tell about 2 minutes after I start chatting...then a few of them are like, "OMG I'm coming over ^^", they bring their laptops, and we sit around smoking and playing all night :biggrin:

I can't drink, though...I'm an angry drunk and when I was younger I used to get into fights and stuff, argue with my g/f (who is a weepy drunk, BAD combination), etc. Since I've gotten a little older, I drink maybe twice a year, and only with dinner or something. No pubcrawls for me anymore...

But me and the sweet cheeba, we get along just fine ^^

One of my LS mates is always stoned, and I'll tell you, he's a complete retard when he's stoned. It's not only how he's talking or anything, but just the things he does when he's playing. For example, the other night we were in the Temple of Ugglabhelplapoaiwevasdrtihagh (lol) and he pulled both an Opo-opo and a Tonberry, decided to take the Tonberry himself (which was fine, he could handle it) and then Converted in the middle of the fight, right as the mob did Throat Stab. That didn't end too well.

66 admitted to be drunk, 46 said they never get drunk, 29 can't drink (mainly due to being underage) 10 wont admit to anything, which is sufice to say those 10 should be added to the 66 who admit to being drunk on a few occasions while playing. :biggrin: and 2 can't even remember. (though judging by some of the posts, the only thing they remember is loosing alot of money or gear!)

It is interesting that some people think they play better while drunk? hmmm I'll leave that to interpretation. The people who were drunk i've partied with certainly wern't!!

As mentioned by others its not just drunk players that can make partying interesting, but stoned players. For obviouse legal reasons (and the fact that you can be traced by your IP) I will not do a poll on that.

I do not remember a time where i sat all day and stayed sober while playing. Fishing is my thing when im really hammered... i dont like crafting while intoxicated though...too much reading of what to craft next and this and that. Parties can rock but once 5 ouit of the 6 people in the party were drunk. I was the white mage at the time.. Very stressfull bizness while trying to remember your macros. But anyways we were about an hour into the fighting when our blackmage yelled.. I'm too drunk for this S#IT and started casting spells on a snipper.. He set that to his macro and we spent the rest of the day telling "this one time I woke up and" stories... LOL

People who have to tell me they're drunk annoy me like those kids one Xbox Live that say they're drunk or high, except that the latter are lying.

You don't have to inform me how intoxicated you are, if you really are, I'll probably notice. I don't need the memo, drink your beer and shut up. I never see anyone talking about how buzzed they are from few cups of coffee, nor do they feel inclined to inform me.

Only time I want to be informed is when you're stepping out to smoke, that way I don't pull and get everyone killed. But they guy doesn't come back and tell mean how relaxed he is now from smoking or that he just coughed up some piece of his lungs. I'm glad because I don't care.

If you're gonna tell me you're drinking, at tell me what you are drinking. I like to try new stuff, I might like it. Enlighten me, just stop stating the obvious, I know you're drunk. :P

The other day the BRD in my party announced that he was half-drunk. Looking at the time, I saw that it was barely 12:30 on the east coast. I asked him if he were EU, since they are several hours ahead of us, but no. He lives just a few hours away from me. So he was getting drunk in the late morning, early afternoon.

I can't get drunk personally, partially because alchohol is repulsive to me (I can't stand the odur, and one out of the two times I had something with alchohol in it I spit it right back out because of it), partially because i'm underage.

The one time I did have a drink, I didn't even realize it until my mom noticed. I'd ordered a virgin pina colada (which is good ^_^), and gotten a strawbery daquari. So, waiters, if you serve a 10 year old drinks, be very careful, unless you enjoyed being yelled at.

There is an epidemic of this in Texas (at least my neck of the woods). Any little get together I may have at my house (birthday, wife's birthday, about it), some redneck shows up drunk already, then proceeds to pontificate on the virtues of drinking since 9:00 AM. Usually more than one. Thank my drummer for bringing these lushes around.

I've been playing drunk a lot lately, mostly just during farming. But if I do get into an xp party whilst drunk, I don't want anybody knowing it. Usually it's counterproductive, but in the reverse: XPing really cuts into my ability to drink. So I may start shitty, but I'll miraculously get better and better.

In answer to the poll never XPed drunk have explored while tipsy and tends to cause occasional dying. I seem to remember a whitemage that was on Garuda before following an ingame girlfriend to another server. He would brag to his ls buddies about how drunk he was while main healing. Funny thing was he'ld stress that he was still doing his job and that his "party" sucked. Some people can probably manage drunk but I haven't yet run accross a person that acknowledges they were drinking in the pt that didn't suck.

Mostly no one is ever actually drunk when they play FFXI. Anyone who say they are are actually desperately seeking attention to fill a void that having no friends (to drink with) creates.

Also, anyone who is drinking and playing a MMORPG alone is probably an alcoholic. Tell him to seek AA.

There is a chance you might actually encounter a real drunk person on FFXI, but if his 'messy' typing is accurate to the point of mathematical patterns being involved, he isn't drunk.

There are people who will get drunk at home by themselves. Personally I never understood someone getting drunk by themself, but have know a few people who do it. It's not much more of a stretch for them to turn on their computer and play a game badly than it is for them to call friends, exgirlfriends, or internet tech support. (I've taken the late shift calls in the call center for these /groan). Regardless of the reasons they do it you do run into them once in a while. Thankfully not very often though.

Actually ran into a whm in the dunes that couldn't get a pt invite because of how bad his playing was help get invited then kicked. My pt broke up when our healer left rather than inviting him.

I get drunk as hell while I'm tele-whoring. I play ffxi a lot while I'm drunk. In fact, lots of the time I'll smoke a bowl while I'm playing too. Don't usually exp on my main job while I'm drunk and/or stoned, but I do play blm a lot. Or tele-whore. Or farm. Or lots of other stuff.

I've never understood the concept of constantly telling people you're drunk or otherwise influenced. I will say something like "I may have had a little bit much to drink," but only if it's causing me to type badly or do something goofy. It's more like an admission rather than a brag.

Haha, although tbh, I guess I cant really "judge" the drinking nation becuase I cant drink. Not underage or anything, medication/body doesnt like it.

So I act a bit "old codger-ish" sometimes...but hell, I still dont see the merit in telling everyone you're so drunk/stoned...much less keep spamming the cha with such BS.

For those of you that do that though (act drunk. and state the fact may times over), why not make a macro you use on your selected drinking days, saves you having to purposely mistype to make it "sound" like you're hammered after a shandy.

As long as you can drink responsibly, there's no reason to avoid it altogether. But if you don't like it, then there's nothing wrong with that either.

Some people just need to learn that other people don't care that you're drinking. So stop telling us about it.
