View Full Version : DRG in Besieged

So I had my first experience with besieged this week. I am pretty low (DRG57) so it was more about having fun and trying it out then really helping. I had alot of trouble hitting the mobs but then I guess everyone does.
I know there are major lag problems in Besieged, but what I wasn't expecting was for my wyvern to suffer because of it. Whenever I would move it would take forever to Eisenzahn to "load". Often his health bar wouldn't even show up next to him name, which is normally a sign he is too far away. This is too bad because Eisenzahn was doing far more damage then I was.
Anyone else have this problem? Any other observations about DRGs in Besieged that could be helpful? Anyone have any general advice for me as I get alittle higher and can actually participate more?

I played as a DRG in a besieged once. Unfortunately I was just starting jobs, and it was just level 6. Needless to say we never landed a single hit :P
And I was grinding my DRG in off of Windy, and died, but my homepoint was in Al Zhabi, and I spawned in the middle of the battle. I didn't actually show up wanting to take part in the besieged.

I have this problem with my carrie in besiged, its very anoying not knowing what shes attacking because sometimes she has a mind of her own >.>; also you can't see your <pettp> when you cannot see thier HP bar which is anoying so you never know when to sic. Sometimes when your at a certain angle with the mob she will pop up but its not a 100% fix and rarely works if theres lots of people around you.

To help reduce a bit of lag (won't get rid of all the lag), follow normal Dynamis procedure: turn ALL your chat filters on. No dmg reports, no nothing except /shout, /tell, /say, etc....
That'll help a bit. As far as any tips/advice: You won't really be useful/effective until ~65 or even 70. The mobs are just too far out of your league.

Yeah I knew going in that I was definately too low to do much of anything. Just wanted to try it out. I agree once I hit 65 I will start doing besieged seriously. I was suprised by Eisenzahn however, when he was there (which was rare) he was hitting consistantly and doing 20-40 per hit. Not much but way better then I was doing.
Thanks for the advice on the chat filters. I did turn on many of the effects filters, but didn't even think of the chat ones. I'll try that for sure next time I do Besieged.

My wyvern doesn't last long in Besieged. Since the new temp items are available, I just summon my wyvern, pop the tp wing, Spirit Surge and use SA+ Wheeling Thrust.
My suggestion to you is sub thf so at least you can hit 1 time every minute.

The thing which sucks in Besiege is when you use SA, there is always a big chance the mob runs off before you land a hit.

I think its good practice for exp parties. You never know which way a mob will turn with some parties.

I've actually started to shift from using /whm and /war to /sam for Besieged. I send Lumiere out to do Altana-knows-what, and I just swing away, Hasso going full throttle. The temp items really do help out in helping some to keep you alive, so don't overlook them.

My wyvern got blown up with me when some AOE did 4000+ damage to us. Then I just followed my linkshell around to kill things. I was in full DRG JSE +1 at that time (was helping someone in linkshell get a paper) with an Ice Lance +1 and no ACC gear. So I failed there already somewhat, didn't really hit a thing, BUT I did get 0.5 Polearm Skillup from it!!
I don't normally do besieged (or much endgame activity) because of the huge lag (not internet lag, PC lag) on my computer, but I got caught into besieged when I zoned into Al Zhabi from Mog House, unaware that it was actually happening.

Well, I'm still trying to find the people that the Lamia charmed so that I can try to kill them, I want to see if I can get IS/exp for killing charmed people, could be fun :P
On a more serious note, if you are a lvl 57 dragoon, I would doubt that you could hit things well, as a lvl 67 drg I have a hard time hitting things even when I eat sushi and load up on all my +acc gear, which is about +29ish acc. I would also have to say that I would not recommend /thf in this, from my experiance the mob pounces around like a ping pong ball between people, add that to the lag and I can't get a SA off.
I can however attack and deal damage to the pets the monsters call out just fine, and I can go as /rdm for tossing out cures to people in need of 'em, and it's kind of fun to cure bomb the undead swarms.

I still have a hard time understanding why people cannot hit mobs with Sneak Attack. I played Besieged last night and never had a problem. Here is a tip, it is easiest to land a SA+ WS when the mob is using a tp move.
Its a very simple tactic to use SA to get tp and do some damage with a SA+WS. You just need patience. I have been doing besieges since they started and this is what I have found to be the best way to do the most damage. I understand people play this game different ways, just try out everything until you get something that feels comfortable.
