This should be in Job+Race discussions forum, let's hope a mod can move it there.

You won't have as much MP for a Hume than a Taru taru, but you still learn all the spells just the same. A Hume would have more Hp, Str and Vit than a Taru though, the Hp and def would make you last a bit longer.

Yes, Janus is right. They made FFXI a lot more unique and important on how you choose your character. Because in the long run, after playing several hours of the game, you may feel stupid for choosing a galka as a black mage, cuz that's not what they are "meant" for. Although it is also unique that you can still be a mage, and have higher hp if you are a hume, like Janus stated.

really race wont make a bit of diffrence, Tarus may get the best magic stats, but after you get higher in levels with better equipment, its not a big deal. But yes, there have been like waaaaaay too many of these threads recently. Please use the search button next time ;)

Fox, I think you're oversimplifying it a bit, no? I mean, Taru mages generally get picked over hume mages for PTs because when people want a mage, they want it to have a lot of MP - HP and Defense are totally secondary because, if the PT functions right, the mages will never sustain a blow.

I know, it's sad 'cause it discourages originality and uniqueness, but it's the state of affairs out there. Taru mages > hume mages, currently at least. :(
