Steal + Gear VS Maat

I have a hearty ammount of Steal + Gear now that I've got all my AF and a few quest/ rare-exclusive items now. I can pretty much say that with latency put in, I could jump steal to +9.

My main concern about this was that I'm 68 and will have to take on my Limit 5 soon. From what I've heard, all I have to do is steal an item from Maat in order to win.

If this is the case, I wanna say that I've got this pretty much in the bag. :cool:

How much likely or easier is my stealing going to be with modifiers against this old geezer?
Please share your thoughts/comments.
Any 70+ THF with similar experiences or advice to give would greatly be appreciated.

I went 1/9 but for some reason when I stole the warp scroll the battle didnt end, he killed me and I failed the quest. Stupid glithce or something, neway I got f**ked over :( Then I went 1/5 and this time it worked lol but I had steal+7 or 8 and tbh I only really felt it helped while getting testimony's. I didnt use the steal ring as I wanted hide after I had stolen from the tonberries but I would get a testimony in about 1-5steals then back to maat. Best bet is to hide tho and run behind him and steal. That way you get the latent of ring if u have it as well. Best advice is to just keep at it cause its really just luck and youll get it eventually.

Or you could try to take him head on, lol... My friend did that. It was a pretty epic fight.

I got him down to 30% before but I was only planning on stealing when I went, had a spare Icarus wing tho mwhehehe. Didnt have dodge or nething, main trouble I found was trying to get bb's and sleep bolts to land even with capped marx and about 10+ rng acc(again wasnt planning the fight) but I think it could be done pretty easily with the right prep. Gear up on your rng acc as much as possible, get some pretty sweet sneak atk gear as well. Sleep to 100% SnkAtk-Dancing Edge maat from behind obv :P Then sleep him with ur rng acc gear. (Phalnax and Blink would be good here as well from equips) Eat wing, beat on him with sleep bolts till you have snk atk again then sleep him, snk atk and dancing edge. After that I would try to bb and sleep bolt him to death. Its not that easy cause he does have alot of evasion but with enough rng acc its all good.

I failed stealing 9 times, then decided to stop being a pussy and just melee him. 1/1 on melee. Do that it's easy as hell, and you're wasting time stealing tests & losing.

yea @.@; first maat fight i did was on THF, failed it v.v; both going in head on and then going for a last ditch steal, lol. Got a vid of it posted on youtube.com just search for my name XD.... anyways. Just go with your best instinics is all I can really say.

From what i heard, once you died your instantly kicked out of the battlefield but i would not know because im 1/1 on bst maat ^^;.

This information is wrong. You can reraise after being killed from Maat.

You have to return to HP if you die without reraise. You will be kicked from the battlefield after times up or KO status for 10mins I think like any other bcnm. Except no exp loss for multiple death or hping.

Ya thats how I did it. So I guess I was actually 0/18 >.>

Melee him yo, it's fun.
Cap eva/marks/dagger (Easy way for eva is to go to cloister of storms zone in boyahda and let that steelshell beat your ass then zone.)
Eva+ gear (Only used torque, EH [No optical hat ; ;], Dodge earrings, SH, and some like crow pants and I was fine, if you wanted to grab more eva skill+ and eva+ it's probably better that way, I was outta gil though.)
Some rng acc+ gear (Had about 30)
Some acc gear (Had about 40)
Sleep to 100 TP > SA DE
Use some blind/acid/bloody etc
Use an icarus wing and DE his ass again, SA if you want, I didn't.
When he perfect dodges, flee and kite him.
Perfect dodge if you need to heal and use some bloody bolts and hipots.
Steal if you want.
You'll be fine.

Equip yourself with the intention of fighting, not stealing.
Use reraise.
Use Icarus Wing.
Use Blink Band (http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/5976). (Remove afterwards)
Use Stoneskin Torque (http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/5760). (Remove afterwards)
Steal from Maat.
Success? Win!
Fail? Kick his ass!

melee maat with thf is easy i went 0/3 with steal setup then i was pissed off (my time of the month... poor old man) and i went 1/1 on kicking his ass

on another note, if u RR in maat fight he gets mad at you and spams assuran fists, see how many u can take :3

i used Perfect Dodge and he missed me 6 times and hit me on the seventh ^^

Meleeing Maat is far easier than stealing that #$&%ing scroll lol I failed 10 straight tests on stealing, which equates to like 2 weeks of farming and wasted time <_<, so I got my SH did as net.drifter said using items, capped my Eva skill and Marksmanship, then went in and beat his @ss down lol I tried Stealing one more time, failed of course, Mithra say "I'm gonna kick...your....@SS!!", then I proceed to do so, just as I get 100% to towards the end, Maat says "I give up"...BASTARD..I WANTED TO KEEL J00!! lol It was alot of fun though, and at the time maybe 1-2 ppl had done it on all servers as THF, so everyone told me it couldn't be done =P I love proving ppl wrong XD So here's some help in that department...

Requirements:
-Eva Skill must be capped @Lv.70THF
-Marksmanship Skill capped (please cap it, you need it for so many reasons besides just Maat lol)

Gear Highly Recommended:
-Scorpion Harness(if you can't afford one, just use a Torama Jerkin or another Eva body)
-Good delay/dmg dagger such as Sirocco Kukri (if u don't have it don't fret, use any dagger with decent stats/delay/dmg)
-+RAcc Crossbow and Acid/Bloody Bolts(doesn't really matter, they're just for added dmg)
-Emp Pin(OHat if you have it)
-Evasion Torque(Spike Necklace if you can't afford it)
-Eva Earrings
-War Gloves(Battle Gloves if you can't afford it)
-Dex Rings
-Eva Back
-Eva Waist (Survival Belt would be really good for this fight, it wasn't around when I did mine XD, so I used whatever Eva Belt I could find, don't remember lol)
-THF AF pants(or can use War Hose)
-Bounding/Leaping Boots (Eva Boots if you can't camp/afford it)

Items Highly Recommended and Usage:
-Opo-Opo Necklace (TP Regen when Sleep is on you)
-Sleep Potions x2 (I don't remember if it took only 1 or if it took 2, but the idea is to get 100%+ TP before engaging Maat
-Blink Band (important, shadows are very valuable in this fight)
-Hi-Potions x2-3 (get 5 if you wanna be prepared for the "Oh sh*t!" scenario depicted below lol)
->> Stoneskin Torque (optional, I never used one when I did it XD, your preference) <<
-Navarin (good eva tanking food =D)
-Persikos au Lait x1 (good regen and helps alot when you start getting hit)
-Icarus Wing x1 (used for self-skillchaining DE > DE for Detonation)

Strategy:
-Go to the BC with THF Test
-Equip Blink Band (do NOT use it yet)
-Equip Opo-Opo Necklace (do NOT use Sleep Potions yet)
-Make macro for using potions (/item "Hi-Potion" <me>)
-Enter BC
-Do NOT engage Maat yet
-Use Blink Band
->> Use Stoneskin Torque (if you got one) <<
-If you used SS Torque, switch back to Opo-Opo Necklace
-Use Sleep Potion x2 (make sure you have 100% TP)
-Swap gear to previously stated above after waking for combat **IMPORTANT**
-Use food (Navarin)
-Use Persikos au Lait (HP Regen Drink)
-Run in to Maat
-If you decide not to attempt 1 final Steal, SADE him
-Use Icarus Wing
-DE him again for Detonation Skillchain (this will most likely cause him to 2HR - PD)
-Kite Maat for 10-15 secs around the ring
-Use PD
-Ranged Attack until you no longer get the message "Maat dodges the attack"
-Build 100tp (using Hi-Potions as needed, explained below)
-DE him one last time (he will probably give up before you get the chance to DE a 3rd time, but it's for good measure >:P)
-[[ Maat gives up @ about 10% HP left ]]

Note:
-Maat will WS you at some point, this is where it's a luck of the draw lol, he'll either try to Shoulder Tackle you, or he'll Asuran Fist you lol (which is the reason for having 5 Hi-Potions instead of 2-3 XD) It all depends on your luck lol A friend of mine did THF Maat and he AF'd him, but he still had PD up so all 8 hits were dodged =D), but not everyone will be as lucky lol So just keep your head level and you'll be fine in this fight, this strat is the exact way I prepared for and completed the fight and I only took 3 Hi-Potions and came out with bout 600HP left.
