If you are thinking on becoming a thief post here. If you have anything else thief related post it here. :)
I am having trouble deciding, I want to be a thief, but I don't know what race to be. I was thinking about becoming a Hume Thief/Monk, or a Mithra Thief/Monk. I'm not sure yet, post your suggestions please. :)

I'm planning on becoming on Mithra Thief/Monk personally. And then once I'm high enough, Mithra Ninja/Thief. I think both of those combos make really nice dodgers :)

I just want to warn you that THF is hella hard to LV in the eirly stages, before you can get a PT :dead: Just warning you.

Yeah, nine out of ten people who have raised thief will tell you that it's the hardest job to raise, but it's one of the most rewarding in the end. They do very little damage, have little HP and defense, and the only thing they can rely on is their ability to dodge which doesn't always work out since they don't dodge all the time, so when you get hit you get hit hard. But, thieves get the best damage dealing ablities such as sneak attack and backstab at higher levels, not to mention the treasure hunter ability. Until you get to level 15 (sneak attack) thieves are scrawny little things.

I'm gonna be a Mithra Theif/Beastmaster...
I think its a cool idea...
My other jobs would be...
1. Ninja
2. Monk
3. Paladin
and
4. Dark Knight
At least those four...

I think that it would be great to have a Theives Guild in the game...
...you know like a Linkshell or something like that...

Yeah, being a thief is definitely not a walk in the park at lower levels. Even if you constantly check every monster before you fight it you occasionally find yourself getting mowed by lower monsters. One's defense just isn't there.
The dodge thing is pretty good, especially once you have a few levels under your belt. But until you can begin to dish out some decent damage it will not save you.
On the upside many parties would love to have you, especially after 15th level. With the treasure hunter and gil steal abilities you definitely add to the prosperity of any group. Sneak Attack is pretty funky too, and very useful in a party environment.
It will be interesting to see a Thief/Ninja combo... or something there abouts. Then they'll be pesky ninja clans sprouting everywhere.

I've always wanted to be Mithra TH/?, but it just seemed so hard to level. My new resolution is to just level warrior to 18, then swithch to TH/War, I figure a two class char will have a better chance. Then I'm gonna take my thief to 30, and get Dark Knight, then take that as a main. I think it'd be really cool to have a cute little mithra with a huge sword, who can deliver sick damage, and dodge all attacks. Just my fantasies!

Some good advice may be to lvl WAR until lvl 18. Then switch to THF. So it will be easier as a THF/WAR. Thats just a thought.

Yeah, that would be a good idea... or Monk. The evasion abilities would blend well together.

I used to be really into the Thief/Monk thing, they have complimentary Claw technique usage, and you can boost hp and dodge stats, guess it just depends on where you want to go with your char. I figure there's no reason not to try out a few subs and see what you like I think WAR, MNK, RM and RNG, NIN would all be decent subs.
To the person who is RNG/TH, how is this combo? Do you ever play with TH/RNG?

I'm shooting for a Paladin/Thief combo. It will be hard, but I'll swallow my pride and ask people to help me level up in my early days...
By the way, the Paladin learns a few healing spells, right? Does that mean he is a hate generator as well as the "Taunt" ability?

I'm gonna go with THF/MNK.I'll probably start out with a monk and once I'm able to get a subjob i'll switch back and forth between the two. . .
I want to try a couple other job like Redmage, Ranger, and Samurai and for all of those i'll sub theif
THEIF~ THE ULTIMATE SUB JOB

I'm going mithra thief/ranger. Ranger/thief has 3 more agi, but 8 less dex, estimated at level 65/32.
I have a fascist regime, so I can just hide behind my party and leech.
my THF just reached 22 ^^ gotta love it when my WS alone take away 75% HP of my enemy muwahaha :spin:
i'm going with THF/WAR until level 45 ^^ that probably will be the highest level im going to raise my THF ^^

i want to start off as a THF then for my first sub put down a monk for hp, then make my sub a NIN
sound good?
DarkWill
05-26-2003, 08:05 AM
Well I think of being Thief as the main job to lvl 30 and after switching to Ninja as a sub.How do you think this sounds?
Schneids
05-26-2003, 09:56 AM
yeah thats what i want to do, but once i am lvl 18 i am going to get the sub job of a monk(cann't get nin till lvl 30) and then it will be easyier to kill ppl, i would have more hp
what is the quest for a ninga
I kind of like THF/NIN too ^^ it's a very nice combination if you're using knife. holding 2 knife and the you can charge TP really quick.
/NIN will give no benefit if you use grapple tho ^^

im going to just play as a thief/monk throughout the whole game until i hit lvl 60/30, then im going to swap and level up my monk to lvl 60, then im going to mess around with the ninja and dragoon levels ^_^;; that would keep me occupied with FFXI for some time ^_^;;

I want to start as either a Thief, a Monk, or a White Mage. As a Hume
As the mage I can heal and help people
I think being a theif would be cool to be and would be useful after level 15 and use that for chocobo/Sub job quests
A Monk just might be a cool to start as. I won't feel as limited/relying as a Monk- I'll be another person to fight he monsters with
I can't wait...

I would start as something other than a Thief as they are really slow to level. White mage, warrior, or monk are all good choices. Any of those are easy to get into a PT with too, as people are always looking for healers or tanks to be in their PT. Once you complete the sub-job quest then go back and level up Thief, it will make life much easier for you.

They arent a very good Hate Generator without war sub i'm afraid... -_-

A lot of Thief/Monks.... What about Monk/Thief?! What, is that weaker or something? Because I was planning on becoming Monk/Theif...
Hey, I'm still a theif, and, "I like swords."

alrighty, i've read all of the posts here. hehe, and as you can tell from my sig, *points bellow*, i have thf and nin fairly high up there.
thf/mnk
this is a good combination. a lot of thf's i know (minus me) have gone with this. however, in the importing community, you seem to be restricted with subbing war if you want to even get into a pt... don't lemme go into my tactics rant.......
thf/war
probably the fastest way to lvl thf. not the best (in my opinion) basically because a thf doesn't have the strength to hold an opponent long enough to handle the dmg neccesary to be an effective taunter.... again, all my opinion~
thf/nin
my holy combination. i don't use grapple/claw anyways, so nin gives me uber thf status~ i love the double dagger wielding here, makes me look much better.
ok, now on to the other things i saw here....
rng/thf
i used to play as this when lvling my rng. i found out that war is actually a better sub for ranger. and i don't like to lvl war, so i said goodbye to ranger~
nin/thf
my current combination. holy? yes. good pts? no. i'll fess up, i know the JP people would like me to sub war here.... but i won't do it, not unless they ask me to. the fact of the matter here is that (in my opinion) ninjas have way too little vitality to taunt... they'd just be wasting whm mp on them when the whm could be healing a war who actually DOES something with their taunts. oh, and btw, i hardly ever take damage during fights, unless of course the monster has an area attack... yes, im uber.
and a few myths and truths...
thf being hard to lvl
yeah, totally true.... the whole way, lvl 1- lvl 60 (now 65) will be a tough journey.... i hardly got pts....
thf being worth it
i'd say if you're lvling thf for money, go to 45 at the highest. you only need treasure hunter II~ i totally think all the work is worth it, in the end, i plan on getting both nin and thf to 65.
thf being boring
if you're even reading this, you don't belong in a post that is marked "Thieve's Guild"......
alrighty, i think im about done here..... feel free to PM me about any other information you'd like to know.... i don't think im the highest lvl'd thf in this forum... actually, i KNOW im not the highest lvl'd thf here, so i may not know half the things others do... take that back, im lvl 34 thf... i DO know half the things the others do
*disappears into a cloud of smoke*

Does anyone have any experience being a THF 55 / NIN 27 or higher? The reason I am asking is due to the fact that Thieves get triple attack at 55, and ninjas have dual wield, so how does that combine?
Do you get 3 dual-wield attacks? That would be very nice indeed...
I'm gonna start my first job of as a thief. So i can steal stuff and get more gil and items from kills. When I reach lv15 thief i'll set it as my sub job and my main job will be monk. monk/thief combo must be the best

I'm THF/WAR and I get triple attack + WAR's Lv25 double attack. So sometimes I do 5 or 6 attacks at a go. With WHM or RDM's Haste you'll be doing attacks non-stop sometimes.

wow(to celerius comment)so you use daggers most of the time or 1 hand swords when you perform the triple attack+double attack??? and are there any thf/nin out there that can tell us the benefits of this combo(i personally think this is one of the best combos in the game, no research but its just hot:spin: :spin: :spin: )

All I can say is that THF is not a sub, I won't ever sub the job because all of its good DMG is taken down due to the recent patches and the fact the the only good things about THFs are money, sneak+decieve, and hunting either than that having it as a sub will give you much lower stats than that of a better sub. THF is an awesome job that is powered up by being rich, in other words if you are poor and use THF as a main then you are counted as a crap. You should have the best equpiment for your LV and have experience hunting all types of NMs. For leveling up, soloing is a pain always for any other jobs. Don't think that just because you are a tank job or a healer you will get definite invites, overflow of these types of jobs will not be on your side, when you are a THF you normally have especially good tactics skill, so apply this to skills as a leader and making your own PT shouldn't be a problem to get experience. I think the best sub for THF is WAR or NIN, MNK's extra HP is useless and you won't be using claws ever when you get dagger WS100.
nin/thf

In my opinion NIN is just like a weak tank, or a class that has the defense of a MNK, the evasion, DEX like a THF, and some knock-off magics from WHM and BLM that are mainly for self support. It is indeed a lot like a THF, slightly stronger in terms of attack but the biggest factor is that at higher levels you'll be able to wear armor the exact same to those the tanks wear, I haven't been a tank yet while leveling my NIN but when I was playing my main I used them many times to play tank and it worked out well, so don't be so suprised to be asked to change to WAR for sub...
