Having just attained 75 not too long ago, I'm using the Mezraq. The "Evasion Down" effect procs very often (about 1 out of 5 hits), and is a noticeable difference. The base damage is exceptional, beating even the Triton's Lance.

Conclusion: DRG godliness = Mezraq.

Although it does depend more on your level, if you're 75 already, Mezraq is the winner. Other than that, I would say hope for a HQ if you're getting it crafted.

Of course, if you're looking at pure DPS, Mezraq has an equal (http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/2343), and nothing Polearm-wise beats Gungnir...

I still have yet to get a Mezraq but it seems to be the 75 weapon of choice. Personally, I use the one you didn't list... the Dreizack.

DPS: 10.94 TP: 12.9% Mods: STR +4 DEX +1 AE: Lowers Attack

Mezraq
DPS: 11.34 TP: 12.15% Mods: STR +2 VIT +2 AE: Lowers Evasion

I think overall it's been shown that the Mez will parse a bit higher but they are still on about the same plane. Pricewise, the Drei is just a bit lower but it's not as much of a difference. The mods on the Drei are better for overall party situations, but the Vit on the Mez is great for solo-ing. The additional effects on both proc a lot and both have their benefits. Overall I really haven't run into anyone who was unhappy with either of them.

DPS doesn't take in account ws damage. Drez on Odin is around 100k now while Mez is still around 1 mil. I have bought a Drez and when I get closer I will have a signed Mez. I also plan on getting a Mighty lance whenever one pops back up on ah.

yeah I wouldn't mind trying a Mighty Lance out on Fireday too. I haven't seen one up in forever though.... and wow at the price disparity between the two on your server.

Mezraq, Martial Lance shouldn't be on there.

mezraq is the best end game lance now (not counting gun ofcourse). dreizack is 300-400k and still dropping, mezraq 1m on my server. the higher base dmg, decent delay and eva down makes mezraq superior to dreizack.

Looking at the prices on Titan I would recommend this path.

68-69: Gae Bolg (Free)
70-71: Colossal Lance (~600k or Free if you camp it)
72-74: Dreizack (~600k)
75: Mezraq (~1.2m)

I think I am going to try for the Imperial Neza just to have it. It has nice dmg/delay and is about the only other thing I really want from assault.

It's kind of sad that a craftable item beats half a dozen NM and BCNM drops. Way to encourage weapon diversity.

Does the answer depend on what subjob you are using? Or what WS you are using? Is it different for exp/merit than for HNM?

IMO, no weapon should be superior for everything (except Gungnir). But that doesn't mean that kind of balance has actually been achieved...

I'd go for the Imperial Neza > Mezraq if you are leveling up still.

Forget the Colossal lance, I kind of think it's way overpriced for what it is now that you can get the Imperial Neza (Colossal Lance prices floating around 700k on my server)

But my opinion is a bit swayed on it since one group of people normally camp that mob, and last year they shot the price from 1.5mil to 23million per lance.

Even so though I'd rather wait one level and get the Imperial Neza, it does more damage than an Ice Lance+1, so why drop even 400k on a weapon when you are going to get something much better in one more level for free?


Not counting the Gugnir, my endgame weapon of choice would be the Mezraq, but I don't think I'd feel terribly bad about using an Imperial Neza either, damage wise they are almost the same, it's just one has a nifty evasion down effect and some nice stats.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying don't get a Mezraq, but I wouldn't make it a really high priority at level 74 to start saving up for one, I'd have started saving at level 70 for it :P

i'm a lvl 70 dragoon, right now and i am using snip rings, ohat and Gae Bolg
and i dont seem to have a problem, acceracy wise, got Gea Bolg for free (got NM with help of guild, x2 75 nin and a 75rdm, and me) was pretty easy, just long fight, like 20 mins, bring more poeple if you want it to hurry up. use of sole sushi, and depending on if i get my SH soon, i might just go pure attack+ STR food. having no problems with it at 70, wouldn't mind a Colossal Lance thou, but NM has a grudge against me and wont drop, oh well
