Hello.

I'm about to import the PC version of FFXI from Japan, but I've heard that FFXI won't run so good with my Geforce4 MX grapichcard.

Has anyone tested FFXI with the Geforce4 MX card?

Thanks in advance!

Your video card is only a fraction of the equation. CPU plays a huge role. I have a radeon 9700 pro but only a 1.3Ghz cpu so I only get a 3800 rateing on the benchmark. People with a better cpu than me get 6000. Run the benchmark and see for yourself how your system will handle the game.

I have a GForce4 and a 966 MHz processor...my score on the benchmark is something like 1700-2000 depending on what mood my comp is in...hardly great, but according to the benchmark, 1500 is the bare minimum to play the game, so eh, it should work.

A GeForce 4 MX will not be much of a bottleneck compared to your CPU.

A GeForce 4 MX will get you up to around 29xx, as your video card will max out. HOWEVER, with your current CPU, you will get up to around 21xx or so becuase your CPU is your current bottleneck.

Therefore, if you upgrade your CPU ONLY, you will get to 29xx, then finally to break the 3000 mark, you have to upgrade to a GeForce 4 Ti.

In conclusion, my recommendation is to first upgrade your CPU to a P4 (or AMD equivilant) that is around 2 GHz or higher, and get at least 256 MB Ram, minimum speed type DDR Ram. Then work on the video card after that.

You will experiance lag in populated areas, tone your settings down.

Thanks for the help.

By the way, my computer stats:
1Ghz AMD processor
760 SDRAM
Geforce4 MX

Do you guys think it's too slow?

I have a 1.7 GHz Processor P4 <-- My bottleneck + also motherboard is old.
With a GeForce 4 Ti 4200
And 512 MB Rambus

I think it is slow, because of my processor.

I have a friend that has the same stats for his comp as my comp, except for the CPU and motherboard which is a 2.8 GHz P4. And there is a world of difference.

It should run very well, the only thing that may bog you down are unnecessary services and background applications. But otherwise, you should run the game very well. (Based upon the stats given.)

AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (equivalent to 1600 mhz)
256 Ram
Geforce 4 MX 440
Windows XP

Zeddie and Apocalypse,

Both of your computers will work and run it, just don't expect to run very fast through the game and be patient in crowded areas (or in parties when lobbing massive spells).

You will definitely experience some frame rate lag, and to help it a bit, you may want to keep your settings toned down.

how good will i run it?
i have a:
AMD Athlon XP Pro (i dont know wht the # is but its equivilent to a p4 2.0ghz)

Geforce 4 Ti 4600 128mb

512 DDR ram

Windows XP

Custom made not store bought :p

How will my computer lag when it is above all of the minimum requirements by far ?

Your GeForce 4 MX will lag you, frame rate wise, in full-size party combats and crowded cities, especially if you pass by fountain areas where there are water effects needed to be drawn. A GeForce 4 MX doesn't cut the cake, you need a GeForce 4 Ti to avoid any lag in full-size party combats and crowded cities.

Run the benchmark and you will know the score between a GeForce 3 and a GeForce 4 MX isn't too big of a difference.

While GeForce 4 Ti can get you well above the 4000 mark.

You must remember that your system requirements are like a chain: a chain is as strong as its weakest link. Doesn't matter if you have a Xeon 3.x GHz processor with 1GB of Rambus RAM with ungodly specs, but if your video card is a crappy GeForce 4 MX, it won't go any faster than the video card's maximum speed.

Goten on the other hand can run at full speed and max resolution because of the video card: GeForce 4 Ti. The MX series is really weak and it runs like a GeForce 3. Furthermore Goten has good processor speed, so there really isn't much of a bottleneck (unless his bus speed is very bad).

On the benchmark I got just above 3000 and it says it will have 'little or no lag' with a score of 3000+ so I still really don't know how you are saying it will lag so bad...

Have you even played teh game with a 3000 score? No way you can have the good settings on and not get video lag.

In all practicality, unless you are really close to 4000, it doesn't help too much.

Look, my score is 3769 (when system is optimized) and 3343 (when lots of background apps are running) and in both cases I still lag in crowded cities and full-size party groups. While the Benchmark is an accurate measure of how well the game will run, you must take in to consideration whether you are on the border or well in to an area of the scores.

Furthermore, between 1500-3000 you are in BARE minimum requirements while 3001-4001 you meet the minimum of the recommended requirements, and the minimum of the recommended requirements only allows you to run the game smoothly if most of the settings are turned down to a minimum.

You won't lag if it isn't crowded or in full-size party groups in combat. But in those cases, you do lag.

In addition to this, the game graphics has recently been upgraded (if some of you haven't noticed already, one of the signs are the lighting effects), and the benchmark has kinda gone a tad out-of-date in terms of the score scale.

I got a P4 2.4Ghz with a Geforce 4 Ti4200 graphics card.

I think it'll be good with the ffxi, the benchmark gave me about 4000, so thats no problem (i hope)

I got 512kb dsl, and i suspect, it might play an evil part in lag. Does any1 know of any dsl problems with dsl? Anyone plays any other mmorpg with dsl? thanks :handsdown
