Hello, im a SAM62 at and 10 lvls away from 2 good GK's. I thought i should start saving now, but i dont know which one to get, the Hagun or Shinsoku. I hear the Hagun will outdamage the Shin under 200TP or so, but damn, the Shin has such attractive stats on it, there is a 5DMG, 5STR and 1AGI difference. How can Hagun outdamgae that? o.o

any help would be appreciated, if at all ill obtain both of them and test them out myself. Help and opinons would be appreciated ^^

the hagun is a martial weapon its effect of tp bonus, causes it to gain 100 tp when using a ws, so when hagun does a ws at 100 tp it is actually a ws at 200 tp so at 200 tp its 300 tp and at 300 tp its er 300 tp cant go over the max, so its a 200 tp ws with hagun or a 100 tp ws with shin which is why hagun does more ws damage

Everyone I know who bought Shinsoku has sold it within 2 weeks. I wasn't too sure how good Hagun would be either but now that I've used one I'm hooked on it. The ENM it drops from is pretty easy with a balanced group of 5-6 people so you might want to try to get it that way, although it's been a rare drop for us.

As far as damage over time, my Samurai friends all tell me that, when you're not concerned about how much TP you give to an enemy, Soboro Sukehiro outparses Hagun due to the extra attacks (and faster WS TP recharge speed).

Just as with Joyeuse/Justice Sword/Ridill, the extra attacks parse out to more damage than the slower but higher damage weapons.

I dont own a Soboro yet but Ive seen one in action. You can pretty much make your own skillchain from time to time. Damage-wise, I have to say its pretty low. I use Sukesada myself. I do plan to craft enough to buy a Hagun.

It depends on how decked your SAM is. If you're not sporting 297 + Great Katana Skill, and 55 + STR, and maybe even a possible haste setup, stick with Hagun. If you start to near those numbers, you can consider using Shinsoku or Ushikirimaru instead.

Soboro Sukehiro is great for solo and for /RNG, but in EXP situations with a non /RNG sub, you'll beat your damage with Hagun or other options. Though, if you are subbing /NIN for some reason, it's probably a better option when blink tanking.

EDIT: I'll be visiting this site more again. Really fell out of the loop.

I'm a Shinsoku user...
Seriously, it has str, tp drain now and then. Also, Shinsoku gets more tp per hit regurarly, and don't forget it's damage is higher....
Once you begin to merit gkt skill, you will only get better, i'd strongly reccomend the Shinsoku... but it's price is outrageous right now. Get some people together and do the ksnm for it... i'm sure they'll be glad to help, because any other ddrops mean 2 mil to split between your people, so finding help should be a breeze...
Shinsoku, all the way. :)

Welcome back to the loop. =)

I'm not even a full time Samurai, but I feel that Samurai who put everything into WS are a lot like Thieves who only care about SATA damage. You cannot underestimate your normal DoT. Though I don't really know how Soboro stacks up to Shinsoku. I can definately see the attraction of Hagun, especially when you have both pieces of meditate-enhancing gear. Weapon Skill > meditate, you'll be @200 in no time and ready to fire off a 300% Strength WS. Also gives the latents on Hachiman some merit if you're already storing tp for a while...

Definately a hard choice.

please forgive my second post shortly after the other _(-_-)_
this is a heated topic for me ^^
ok, in all honesty, I was thinkin about it strongly, and came to the conclusion that the swords are equal except for one thing........
the shinsoku has the tp drain... now listen to this, that tp drain is few and far between times, and it's drain ranges from 0-10, i'm currently meriting my great katana skill hoping it will increase the amount of tp drained, and mainly because the higher the great katana skill, the better...
another note to add is damage.....
I party with Hagun users all the time, and again I use the Shinsoku... here's how it all stacks up.
tp @ 100% with hagun can outdo a shinsoku @ 100%
however, if for example hagun is at 100% and shinsoku is at 120% you're gonna outdamage a hagun easily. At least that's what i've noticed.
So now imagine both swords use 300% tp, which is going to outdamage the other?
The Shinsoku.
In conclusion, two types of samurai are ever present in vana'diel.
the ones who crank out inobsescent damage without cause or worry to hate or control....
a sam/thf i'll say you can use your hagun.
But if you're a sam/war use the Shinsoku ^^
but to make it easier, the difference is so little you wont notice, however; that little difference can be the world in certain situations.
it's alot of fun, just have fun with it, that's what's important. I don't mean to make it sound hard or anything. The Hagun is waaay more affordable and better for cranking out the damage at lower tp.
the Shinsoku is best, since most samurai reserve themselves until certain situations anyways. You know we have to constantly hold back.
Wow i've written alot here, i'm sorry <,< I told you it was a touchy subject for me.
I hope this helps out a little. Don't be mad at me.

DAMNIT HIDOKU, I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'D BE SO DUMB AND STUFF!!!

Don't worry, dude. This isn't KI. We appreciate constructive comments and opinions around here. ...Wait a tick, you joined this site in '03! What do you have to apoligize for? You should be bossing everyone around telling them how to do their jobs. :O

In a perfect world, neither weapon would be superior. I like the idea of many weapons depending on your focus. I think as many discussions as I've seen comparing end-game GKs, the difference is likely to be small enough that you'll be kick-ass no matter what you choose. 10 mil on Hagun + crappy gear doesn't get you anywhere. Remember to size up your upgrades one step at a time.
