How does the servers work? Do both version still share the same server? And if so then you can interact with expansion characters?

You can interact with expansion players, just as any MMORPGs, the only thing happening when you DONT have the expansion is that you cant have its features (like the new jobs if only exp), new items, new armors etc. You can still see the new features but not enjoy them yourself, the rest stays the same.

everyone will download a patch that gives them all of the new armor and weapons available and new graphics, but you wont be able to go into the new lands and get those items. But someone with exp can trade them to you.
