I just came aross it on somepage...
http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/4356
I have never seen it in game, so I do not think it is out yet. But its 65 defense, -10% physical damage taken, +10% magical damage taken, and ice resist -25.
I have not seen it anywhere and well... its rather nice. I am wondering if its out or not... ;o

Well somepage, ffxiclopedia and mysterytour don't have any information so it's likely that it doesn't drop in the game yet, or drops in some poorly documented area like dreamworld dynamis. The wiki does have this note on the article:This almighty breastplate used to be available (or so I've heard) in game, but because of it's supreme defense and power, it was taken out of game because it was too powerful. It has been replaced with the Assault Breastplate. There is an npc in Jeuno who still wears this body piece... --Baraddur 16:28, 1 October 2006 (EDT)Supposedly this was the fate of Battle Slops as well. Even if you did see someone wearing it in the game, a Taisai probably dropped it. ;)

Also the Mithra in Bastok Port next to the tents by map dealer wears 1
How is this any better than a defending ring? Or the Arhat's set? I really don't see why this would be too good for the game.

It's better than the Arhat's set because PLD can wear it... that's how. Let's not forget PLD can't wear Arhat's gear.

I think the above people were saying, "Arhat's gear and defending ring are in the game, why was this armor taken out of the game when it is comparable".

You seem to have misunderstood, I figured that's what they meant. But compare PLD to other jobs... compare how much -DMG% equip we have... (Not nearly as much)
Obviously they thought letting us have that would overpower us... I guess I didn't use enough words to convey that clearly.

I can use many words to describe Paladins but "overpowered" isn't one of them. :)

-10% off damage and then add on whatever else you can wear as a pally. Switch this in on physical damage mobs and then switch it out when fighting magic users. Sounds like a good deal.
I have no idea how -10% is overpowering. Just do the math.
55 dmg each hit -> 50 dmg
Wow, totally overpowering there.

I honestly don't see how that breastplate is overpowered. The physical damage reduction is offset by the increase in magic damage taken. However, that coupled with the Defending ring would give 20% physical damage reduction, and if defending ring reduces magic damage as well, the negative effect of the breastplate is nullified. I guess they were thinking some people would stack up on every piece of damage reduction gear they could? I know I would at least try to do that, but I don't see anything wrong with a tank being a tank. >.>

May as well add an Earth Staff :wasted:
May as well forget the damage reduction gear and /nin ....
To be serious, this body piece is no way near over-powering.

I've never heard the "removed from the game" routine. All previous discussions I've seen about this piece of armor were that it was never in the game to begin with. It's right up there with Enrage or whatever (that job ability in the .dats that got turned into Provoke, or some such madness). People will wait for it to come out, and S-E has no intentions of releasing it.

Would be nice mind Defending Ring, Jelly Ring, Adaman Breast Plate, and an Earth Staff FTW!
If only I had the defending ring it would be a start.

It's like utsu: san. But how did people obtain information with regards to when or what item got "recalled" by SE? I'm thinking maybe in patch notes. Anyone would like to share?

Shadow Mantle, Defending Ring, Earth Staff, Jelly ring, and Adaman Breast Plate all at once... while subbing NIN, nope... not overpowered at all.
Yeah, the body piece isn't much by itself, but honestly who is going to use JUST the breastplate...?
While some of those items may be hard to obtain, people DO have them, I'm sure the people over at square saw that coming eventually(Though, at other times it seems they totally lack forsight, this one is too obvious to miss) and decided not to put the armor in the game.
Or hell, take the Earth staff outta there for those few lucky paladins with and Aegis and sub that in...

65 defense. Currently, there are 3 body armors with 65 defense. One of them is a cloak so "Cannot equip headgear." This would be #4 (well, #3 if it was replaced with Assault thing, which is one of those 65 DEF pieces). Point is, not only is this Phys Dmg taken -10%, it also has the highest defense value that S-E is willing to assign (I know, Kaiser body has 66...).
Did I mention it was 2 years ago that i saw threads about this? If it's not out now, it'll never make it in-game.

I just remembered something. I think I read some silly rumor about one of the GMs wearing this during the beta (the one guy with the 81 Dark Knight?).

Not a fair assumption. Ancient Magic II has been in the dat files for an eternity and just recently got unlocked. :)
On the face of it, I don't see anything horrendously overpowered about this armor, except that it is better than the already-ridiculously-good Koenig Cuirass, which would make a lot of HNMLS paladins rather bitter. :P
