Okay people, please read this post CAREFULLY and MEMORIZE THIS KEY POINT:

When you are installing a Japanese game, you want your Operating System (Win2K and/or WinXP) to automatically DEFAULT to the Japanese language, INCLUDING your FILESYSTEM preference ability!

In Windows 2000, the settings are in the Control Panel --> Regional Options --> Language Settings for System --> Set Default... --> Japanese.

In Windows XP, the settings are in the Control Panel --> Regional and Language Options --> Advanced --> Language for Non-Unicode programs --> Japanese.

Currently the "error" message you recieved is garbled, meaning the Japanese language settings was done INCORRECTLY.

Please ENSURE that your "Language for Non-Unicode Programs" (WinXP) or "Language Setting for System" (Win2k) is set to JAPANESE. If you do not do this, any install or running of the game WILL fail.

Please follow the instructions here to set your OS to the correct language: http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=898

Sorry for sounding so heavy handed, it is just that a large portion of most errors with the benchmark or game installation/execution is this mistake. And it is not the fault of the person installing it, it is just that the point was never made clear as a first step pre-requisite to install the game/benchmark. (And I can't set a post to "sticky" status as I am not an admin/mod to make a post to tell people to check this first.)
