Hi
I have got to my 50/50 capacity at my mog safe so I need to get some furniture in.
I havent dont any woodworking before so please ignore my ignorance!
Do I just need some "ingredients" and some crystals to make a table or cupboard or something?
How do i find out what "ingredients" I need to synthesis a bit of furniture?

The woodworking guild can be found in Northern San D'oria, almost near the entrance to the port. And yes you do need some "ingredients" to make items... but don't be fooled. You need a rather high woodworking skill to succesfully make any furniture items with storage (correct me if I'm wrong). You'd be better off buying your furniture if you don't want to spend time skilling up woodworking.

You can also look into the Mog Safe upgrade quests (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Mog_Safe). I'm up to 80 mog safe. Plus, work on the Gobbiebag quests (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Gobbiebag) for 60 inventory.
And make sure you have your Mog Locker (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Mog_Locker) upgraded to its max of 60, if you have ToAU.
I try to stay away from putting much in storage, as it is only accessible from your home city. The only stuff I put in there are lowbie Rare\Ex stuff and oddball stuff that I won't be using for a while. I never put anything like crystals, crafting ingredients, or anything more than seldomly used gear in storage. I'm not usually in my hometown when I need it.
Oh, and never put your Delkfutt's Key in storage. You will ALWAYS be in Jeuno when you need it.

Yeah, the beginning ones aren't too expensive, either. Once you get into Gobbiebags 5 & 6, you'll be looking at some money.

Also its not a good idea to keep all your Imperial Money in your mog locker.
Yeah.

a good tip if you use, if you do want storage, is to use Water Jugs. they sell through an npc in Rabao and sell for a rather low amount. they have a 2/1 ratio which means you lose 1 safe slot but gain 2 storage slots. they are great to add in or take away to tweak the amounts on either side. keep in mind though that too many will give you Moghancement: Fishing which does essentially the opposite of what it says. It will result in a greater number of items caught instead of fish.

Aaactually...
Water Jugs are 2 storage for 1 safe slot, it's true, but adding many of them is not a good idea. They will lag your game horribly any time you enter your mog house in your hometown (since the game tries to draw all your furniture). I know this because I did it on a mule to try it once, and it just wasn't worth it - definitely not worth the increase in storage space.
Also note that Water Jugs provide Moghancement: Water, not Moghancement: Fishing/Items. You'll only get Fishing/Items if you have another piece of stronger water furniture (like a Commode) that will overpower the Water Jugs.

I've never had bad lag because of a mog house full of water jugs, Icemage. I've been doing that for years.
For the cost they are most definitely worth the extra storage space (especially on mules) in my opinion.

A few are OK. After about 30 my game started lagging a lot. :P Haven't tried this since I upgraded to my new computer early this year, so might be a resource problem, but my old computer, while not the beefiest machine, was more than adequate to run the game in most circumstances.
All I can say is I was getting more lag with 50 jugs inside my mog house than I was getting with multiple alliances in Dynamis(40++ players), which was strange.

I tend to take the more mules approach over the more storage approach anyway. I don't like being tied to the starting city, even with my mules.

I have a phalanx of mules as well. Only a couple of them went the Water Jug route, and they only have 30 each (I'm not upgrading their mog houses). So maybe that's it.
Having multiple mules is the only way I've ever been able to keep things organized.

I was telling Omni the other day, when I reactivated, all my toons where full on inventory and storage. I'm gonna have fun reorganizing the next few days... :o

Reacitvated again? I thought you already came back?
If you really want a lot of storage for one piece of furniture, use cabinets. 4 storage, takes up on MH safe spot. But they do cost 20k on fairy.

I like having as many of my important items as possible on one character rather than having to switch out personally. Just reached the storage cap through furniture of 80 and am gradually replacing the lower storage items with higher rather than going for the crafting aspect though. I've so far only had a delay in stuff appearing when entering. I think it's my video card since I have the standard generic driver curently rather the one for my device.
All my stuff is water based since it was cheapest though ^..^
Although getting a 5 storage piece costs a little over 100k curently on Garuda (Water element) while the cabinets are a more affordable 20k. You'll pay an additional 4th of the price if purchased in home cities though.

I definitely keep all of the important stuff on my main. But crystals, level capped gear, etc all goes to mules.

Other job's gear, crafting leftovers from skillups, and random drops I'll prolly never finish the stack on all go to mules. 16 storage spaces of random ex stuff and other crap that I'll rarely use, and if I do it'll only be when I'm in my home nation.

I'm a packrat though so I hold on to waaaaay too much gear. I have a gear set for every job I have levelled between my main and my equipment mule. For DRG I have level cap gear in my locker for every significant level cap.
What I finally did was got more storage on my mule on our bazaar aacount and tossed a lot of extra meds and foods there.
I think on my main I am sitting at 50/60 on me 80/80 in safe. 57/61 in storage. 55/60 in locker with about 2 or 3 pages cycling in my DB.
Seriously, If you're having storage problems and you mule gear a lot, just convince a friend to help you get your mule to Al-Zhabi. Having a mog locker on an equipment mule makes things soooo much easier.
