Is there a way to get an FPS Counter showing in gameplay?

no
unless you run FRAPS or that "other program that's not legal."
the game is capped at 30 fps anyway, but crowded areas will cause you to lag a bit. depending on your computer's specs, this might be more noticeable than for others.

Your video cards drivers and related software may have an on screen display function for FPS.

Which could probably still be counted as "illegal" because it is technically a 3rd party program.

not in the catalyst drivers afaik. don't recall seeing that in the detonators either.

Whoa, I sense there is a 'strict' policy here...
I onyl wanted to see what FPS I am getting with my old card compared to the new card I am putting in tonight! I'm just going to turn everything up to full whack and see if it can handle it (9800 Pro)
Never mind, close the thread if you need to (though I must say I cant see how an FPS counter would be considered not allowed, not exactly cheating is it?)

FPS counter might be harmless enough, but the windower program that allows you to do that is a strict no-no with SE policy (bannable offense).
like I said before, the game is capped at 30 fps. Most (semi) modern cards can deliver that without problems in most areas of the game.

What do you mean by that?

Hmm...must admit I am slightly confused, but its capped at 30fps then so be it (now are you sure there isnt a registry hack...-Kidding-) :)
Not asking how or anything like that, just WHY is this windowing so forbidden?

no, there are no reg hacks for upping the FPS. actually, the game engine is so tied to the FPS that wierd things happen when you try to go over it.
windower is forbidden because SE deems it a cheat tool. There have been many arguments on these forums about this topic (do a search). Let's not go further down that road.

Yeah, the "other program that's not legal" is probably the worst kept secret in this game for PC users. Much in the same way my great grandfather ran a successful "soda shop" frequented by police and politicians in Midvale, Utah during Prohibition. It says it has a feature to count frame rates, but you play with the risk of being discovered and banned by SE if they catch you using it.
By some interesting coincidence, I rarely hear of nice people being banned for using that "other program". I see many nice people admitting or at least opening the possibility that they might be using it in game. Strangely though, if you're a rat bastard you seem to get reported almost immediately after making that kind of slip. I wonder why that is? It's probably their breath...

Video cards don't work very well without drivers ; ;

Well, slapped in the new card, turned everything on full steam and not a bit of lag in sight.
I'm happy :)
Wasnt there a reg hack for increasing the max resolution?

Yes, you can reg hack both your display resolution and your background resolution (among other things like that) to create a nice AA look. However, that is also "illegal".

Wasnt there a reg hack for increasing the max resolution? It's in a sticky at the top of the Game setup and tweaking forum.

Yeah I found it after a quick search...I always forget to use that :p
Gonna try it when I get home, but there are people using nearly the same setup in that thread that report good performance so I should be ok.
Thanks peeps ;)
