View Full Version : I think I may retire from BLM...

I don't really want toget involved in end-game HNMLS activities, what I like to call a server-wide dress-up compitition. Reguardless that many of my friends from way back when are in a certain shell and one owns it, the is just to much time spent staring at the screen spamming macros. For this reason the level grind has become almost unbearable and I have not joined a party in 1 month. The only things I am interested late-game are CoP, ToAU, and soloing in sea or sky, and it seems like it is to big a stretch just for the chance to participate in them...

I am not sure yet if I will quit FFXI or simply level another job/charatcter, but I think this time I may be done with BLM for a long while... I may eventually bring it out of retirement if I don't quit but...

:( Sorry to hear. SE is doing everything in thier power to reduce the number of blms nowadays.

The only things I am interested late-game are CoP, ToAU, and soloing in sea or sky, and it seems like it is to big a stretch just for the chance to participate in them...Have you finnished CoP? start a character on Kujata or something, I'm having the damnedest time finding people to do CoP missions. You have until November to get to lvl 50+. Ok, halfway through November, I'l need a bit to remember how to play and what my macros do again.
I am not sure yet if I will quit FFXI or simply level another job/charatcter, but I think this time I may be done with BLM for a long while... I may eventually bring it out of retirement if I don't quit but...Maybe take a break. I was kind of down on things since finding CoP parties (my biggest intrest right now) has been a giant pain in the ass but after an almost forced 2.5 month break, I'm looking forward to playing again.
But ya, BLM can get a little monotonous after a bit. I'm always happy to go back to RDM or try something different after playing BLM for a bit. Going back and forth can be fun, spend a lot of levels and missions healing and enfeebling, then switch to BLM and blow the snot out of things.

I'm confused. What is wrong with BLMs in the high levels? Why is SE trying to reduce the numbers???

Nothing's wrong with BLMs at end-game. They're hurting in the 65-75 range for XP parties simply because of the emphasis on TP-burn parties, where they don't "fit", but once you hit 75 it's easy since it's not hard to put a manaburn party together at that point.

To the OP: End-game is what you make of it. If your idea of end-game is just sitting in Behemoth's Dominion spamming macros and hoping to get claim, then take another look around. There's a lot of fun stuff to do at end-game at 75 BLM - HNMs are just a tiny fraction of it.

I know that end-game isn't just camping HNMs, I just used that as an example. I think I'll take Mhurron's advice and go level THF and then mabye WHM, and then I may be wanting to nuke things to death some more.

Your problem isn't really with end-game, then, just that you're bored with BLM. Take a break, go level something else for a while. :)

As a blm who has just hit 65, I know how hard it is to get an xp party - seriously noone wants blm anymore.

Still, I am a perfectly happy soloer, so I can live with it, although a touch slow.

I am about 10k from level 66 (been ther for about 1.5 months now) but what I have done to combat this blm party drought is waited for a PLD friend of mine and a BRD friend of mine to get to 65 (they where 50's when my drought started 1.5 months ago) - now we'll just start our own damn party and the other people who join won't have a choice!! I spent way to much money on this job to give up now, especially since if I sell everything I bought I'd lose a ton o gil (blm equip prices have dropped like a rock)

I think I'll take Mhurron's adviceYa thats probably the best thing you can do.
mabye WHM.Personally, if I was really bored with BLM, WHM isn't what I'd be turning to. Personally when I got to 69RDM, before I really focused on Maat I leveled subjobs I might want, specifically WHM and DRK. WHM bored me a lot more then BLM did, but taking MNK to 18, then WAR to 18 and finally DRK to 37 was an interesting change of pace.

Where do you solo? I don't really care about fast EXP, I want something fun to do, andsoloing has always been fun for me.

Anythin we can sleep without problem, we can solo. Stuff with lower wiill give you better exp since you need less MP to kill them. Avoid arcanas like the plaque though, if you are soloing for exp.

Wamoura Prince in mnt. z. is probably the best soloing exp around at 75. You can solo to chain #4 if you get your timing right. Each kill is worth 200~300 without ring. This is better exp than some of the slower xp parties. Bring a BLM friend or two and you can get consistant chain #5's.

There are other things you can do at lower levels. Generally just look for T~VT that does not have high HP, high magic def, or resistance to sleep.

Impressive, youre the same as me, i havent joined a pt in months, ive been lvling blu, but that is still low, so doesnt really count

As blm all i WANT to do is questing, missions, soloing, etc, ive sort of lost the will to merit and stuff, i do dynamis sometimes... cos its fun

Im more focused on crafting these days, and other such activities

Beastmaster mob pets. At 65 I belive you can do Goblin's Rarab in Bibiki Bay. Theres a guide at Alla thats really rough that gives places.

Usually Nin sub is perfered as you won't need to Gravity kite the mobs, Utsusemi is better than Blink, and Stoneskin will only last 1 hit.

If you have a RDM friend you can duo some nice xp with no down time and much safer (unless you like the thril of running out of mp while an angry mob is coming for you  ).

After I'm done with PLD (73 atm) I'm gonna lvl BLM and THF, both jobs seem like fun.

Yay! I found myself a twin!

I think I found an intresting job combo that willbe a nice break from BLM - NIN/BST. I always liked melee jobs, but I never found myself leveling them in FFXI because of the general sterotypes and requirements to be one. for example, Warriors ALWAYS use Greataxes untill 50, when they sub NIN and dual axes. Ninja ALWAYS are tanks. Dragoons ALWAYS suck. You catch my drift.

Another job I was looking at leveling is DRG/BRD. As a hume it might be a little difficult, butif I load up on HP and defence I should make a decent soloer.

EDIT: Balfree do you really live in portugal?

NIN... /BST? I don't follow. No one invites Ninjas for the damage they do. If you want to solo, just play BST and have done with it. You can't get a party on NIN/BST, and I don't really see what /BST gives you that /WHM wouldn't do better (or /PUP for that matter.. or any of a host of other superior solo subjobs... /BLU.../RDM...).

This is at least viable in a solo setting with the right gear, though trying to solo for XP before you get the DRG AF head piece with the improved breath effect is probably pretty dangerous since you'll only be able to trigger Healing Breath when your HP is below 25% (33% with AF hat).

I think he meant soloing and in a non-conformed manner. Remember, he's tired of stereotyping.

I think someone who leveled 1 to 75 on DRG soloing might have something to say to that. I'm still waiting for her Guide (*stares at LadyKiki*)
